Terrible Resort

We spent the weekend of August 1, 2008 at this dump. We will never stay here again nor will we ever recommend it. Our room was beyond filthy. There was a huge, gaping hole in the window screen which prevented us from opening the windows without a parade of insects of the crawling and flying variety sharing the bathroom beds with us. There was a horrific stench of cat urine which greeted us as we entered our room. There was a beer bottle at the base of the stairs which was there on Friday when we arrived and was STILL there on Sunday when we left. The bed sheets were stained, the bottom of the box spring was on the floor, there were nails sticking out of the bed frame on which my daughter cut herself. There was a HUGE cobweb above the sink which was there when we arrived and left. The carpeting in the room was filthy and never vacuumed, and was so soggy as to be spongy. There is no maintenance work done at all on the buildings of this resort. How was the food? Yuck. Everything was so oversalted my fingers swelled to 2x their size. The only good thing I can say about this resort is the fact that they have good coffee. My daughter participated in the feis on Saturday and the front desk had no clue as to what was going on. PLUS as a resort guest whose daughter was a feis competitor, we still had to pay to get in. It cost me over $700 for this weekend and I was so thoroughly disgusted with this resort that I would have left if I could - but my money was kidnapped.

Go Somewhere Else

Upon our arrival, we were sent to this "building" called the Terrace. The rooms reminded me of some of the horrible residences I see in my work as a paramedic in New York. The room wreaked of mold, and it looks like the place has done NO updating since before I was born. Then we were sent to a "deluxe" room, which was to the level of cheap motel but at least we had company- a spider larger than my hand, flies, mosquitoes, and some black mold around the base of the shower. I was supposed to be there for 3 nights, suffered through one, and we ran out the next morning to a real hotel. The only redeeming thing was cute animals. When we tried to get a refund for the unused nights, we got met with resistance, but ultimately prevailed.

Just spent the week end here arriving Friday, and departing Sunday, the facility is family operated which means everybody wants the guests to be taken care of. The food, drinks, and live entertainment are all good. The tap room is the happening place. The rooms are OK but are nothing really special. Where this place shines is in taking care to be absolutely certain that you have a good time. I attended the Spring Vette Fest and will again next year. The Blackthorne plans activities down to the smallest detail.

I really enjoyed staying at the Blackthorne and would return again. There is nothing fancy about it but it was clean and the grounds were well kept. The family who owns it are very nice and the food was good and lots of it. It's a great getaway for family and kids. Mountain air, scenery is a nice change from the city.

I was at blackthorne resort for motorcycle fest. Me and my friend went cause we are from the area and im friends with the owners son. we seriously had a blast. we met alot of interesting people and deffinetly walked away with a few new friends. after the weekend was over we were soo upset because it went by way to fast. we recommend the festival last for over a week.. it would be alot better. haha. the staff are very nice and the bartenders...a few of the guys... were total hotties :] ... the atomsphere was amazing as well as the people involved in it. we deffinetly plan on being there for years to come!

Best upstate vacation variety--Five !!!!! rating

I suspect Niamh is: 1) An unattractive young punk who ran her mouth, caused trouble there, and was straightened out or told to leave. 2) Couldn't get any "love." 3) A jealous local competing hotel/motel owner. One of the great things about Blackthorne Resort is that it is an unpretentious, fun-loving, relaxed atmosphere, but a high degree of safety is assured. If someone gets out of line, the staff is prepared to take whatever action is necessary to make sure everyone's stay isn't ruined by one dirt bag. Blackthorne appears to be the most successful resort in the area. My guess is that there are many reasons, equally important, but for us: 1) GREAT value for the money. Great food, plenty of it, and the variety is amazing. They set off their own professional fireworks shows weekly in season. 2) Family-friendly resort, but there are plenty of unattached young people staying and frequenting the place. More male and female hotties than anywhere else up there—so even if you can’t touch, you can at least enjoy the view!! 3) Best pool---see #2 above. 4) The best music in the area. 5) In general, more fun than anywhere else up there. As a result, I wouldn't be surprised if owners and family members of a couple of the old-fashioned and very boring surrounding resorts weren't posting negative reviews here and other places. We've been going up there for years, and I can tell you there is a great deal of jealousy of the Handel family, because of how much more popular their place is than the other places. However, check them out on line, and call to ask about their many theme weekends, that no one else up there hosts. You'll find out there is no place better to go upstate, no place to have more fun. However, if you're a snooty, uppity snob, go to Europe or somewhere else. Blackthorne offers entertainment from mild to wild, and you probably can't handle it! After all, as a friend of ours likes to say, there are people who get invited to a spectacular orgy, and complain about the cheese dip......they just can't seem to focus on what is important!

The scummiest dump Ever!

Upon arriving we were met with this old troll at the front desk. She was very unpleasant and didn't seem to get that we were paying customers. When we finally got our key. We checked out our room. When we entered we encountered the smelliest cesspool this side of 1957. The springs were through the mattress there was mold on the shower curtains filth everywhere. The toilet in Grand Central station is much cleaner(and didn't work). I almost hurled at the stench. The sheets and bedding were stained by local inbreds no doubt. The food was disgusting the foreign staff were a bit of eye candy. The pool was gross. The bar, a dark den of sloth and alcoholism, disgusting. The bartender Michael was nice, the only good thing about this horrible, vile, nauseating, dump! If someone wanted to visit some cantankerous inbreds in the filthiest excuse for a hotel resort. Then this is your place. Just bear in mind a weekend here may send you home with an infectious rash, kidnapped by some dirtbag bikers, leperacy or all of the above. Burn it down! Can't wait to go back.

We were a group of bikers that were there at the resort in sept. 2006 the staff did not take care of the conditons of the room, did not supply enough towels, no hot water in the shower or sink, no working TV and the toliet was not working for 2 days. when approached the owner of the resort of the problem we had, they did nothing at all. We had a group of 10 that were very disappointed on the service and conditions of our rooms.

My family and I love The Blackthorne. We have been going now for 6 years-twice a year. If you're looking to have a bit of freedom, beautiful fresh air, a beer by the pool, dance, laugh, most of all pure fun in the Catskills, this is the place. We can't wait to get up there this year!!! Thank you Blackthorne Staff! See you all in June...and September.
