Avoid the Tall Ho at all costs

Rick and Jan Streeter refused to honor the reservation we made in February 2010 for week 6 of the Chautauqua season. Even when I showed them their e-mailed confirmation, Rick told me that he couldn't remember everything he wrote in e-mails! The apartment they stuck us in had none of the facilities we had been promised, including a bedroom with AC and a double bed. It took them days to provide these basics. Both the refrigerator and dishwasher didn't work and the bathroom door didn't close, let alone lock. Rick and Jan were rude about our dissatisfaction and treated us terribly. They never addressed the bathroom door problem. Obviously the people who stayed in the facility earlier than we did this past summer must have encountered the same problems. I can't imagine why they didn't bother to complain online so others could avoid this terrible hotel. Avoid it at all costs because it costs a great deal and you get very little in return.

terrible, terrible experience. The room offered when we arrived was not was the type we reserved. It took (literally) nearly an hour to check in because the innkeeper is so disorganized (and nasty). The room was not ready, dirty, and in a state of semi-construction.Chautauqua is so beautiful. We'll never stay here again. The Tally-Ho should be renamed the Bates Motel.

I really enjoyed my stay here at the Tally Ho. The rooms were pleasant and fit the Chautauqua scene. The owners were very nice and the food was delicious! Highly recommend staying here and will be back for many more seasons to come.

My family has been coming to the Tally Ho for several seasons and we always enjoy our stay. The Tally Ho has been owned by the same family for generations and they have the knowledge about the Institute to match as well as a real desire to help you appreciate the same experiences at the Institute that have kept them coming for years (which we found very helpful as relative new-comers to Chautauqua). The accommodations are affordable and very clean and fit with the atmosphere of the Institute. We plan on returning for many years to come!

I felt at home with the friendly, efficient staff here and got to know the owners as well. The place was so quiet that it seemed as if I were the only guest (and they were full). The food was varied and absolutely delicious. The suite of rooms was pleasant, supplied with kitchen facilities and two cable t.v.s. Clothes washers are also available for longer stays. I would certainly choose the Tally-Ho again to enjoy both it and the facilities and programs of the Chautauqua Institution.

The Tally-Ho is a prime example of modern accommodations fitting into Chautauqua old world ambience. The room was clean, quiet, and overlooked a woodsy area behind the hotel. The Streeters are great hosts and the meals served at their restaurant are exceptional. I strongly recommend staying here.

Rooms are old, run down, and poorly lit: bath rooms are makeshift arrangements and poorly laid out; double bed in Rm 38 was rock hard and lumpy; twins in Rm 39 were OK. Neither room had any sort of easychair, but Rm 38 had access to balcony (shared with two other rooms) with comfortable chairs . Both rooms have microwave oven and refrigerator which worked, but refrigerator in 39 barely cooled. Rooms are billed as efficiencies, but neither was equipped with dishes or utensils: Rm 39 only sink was in main room (none in bath). One week was enough for me.

Entire hotel is in serious need of rehab. Price is high for what you get but consistent with Chautauqua on-grounds prices.
