Recently, we visited the most wonderful small town in the Fingerlakes region of Upstate New York. It is called "Skaneateles". Norman Rockwell MUST have used this Village in his illustrations. And--except that Skaneateles is not in Minnesota--Garrison Keilor must certainly have been talking about them. Wineries and Vineyards of the Fingerlakes Region are only minutes away, as well as historical museums, galleries and theatre.

We stayed connected by a wireless connection to our laptop at a hotel just outside the village called the Skaneateles Suites. Actually, Skaneateles Suites has a collection of places to stay: The Bungalows at the Suites, the Boutique Hotel in the Village and their “Dockside” Vacation rentals. We stayed in one of the King Jacuzzi Bungalows which had a galley kitchen, private patio, the most incredible mattress we have ever slept on, and a double Jacuzzi tub IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROOM. Even though the lakeside Village of Skaneateles exudes the simple pleasures of classic Americana, we didn't miss out on modern tastes and conveniences. We dined in the Village at several restaurants [Don't miss Joe's Pasta Garage] and enjoyed Sushi with Saki, as well as a delicious pasta in a cosmopolitan setting. Be sure to ask the folks at the Suites for their “secret places”
