Historical Traveller Reviews of Old Santa Fe Inn Hotel

Charming Hotel, Great Location!

from comfortableshoes
My husband and I spent 3 nights at the Old Santa Fe Inn this month and were delighted with what the hotel has to offer. Our room had a fireplace, private patio, CD player, microwave, and fridge. To make the room even cozier, there were 3 large pillows to lean against on the bed while we watched TV - a really nice touch! We could not have been made to feel more at home. The continental breakfast was quite sumptuous, consisting of eggs, bacon, sausage and waffles, in addition to breads and cereals, coffee and several types of juice. The hotel's location is perfect, just a few blocks away from the plaza. One night for dinner we went to the Pink Adobe. We started off with drinks in the Dragon Room, quite a happening place, and they know how to make a great Margarita! The restaurant, on the other hand, was very quiet and homey and the food was excellent. We were glad we'd made reservations ahead of time as there was a line to get in! Fortunately, the Old Santa Fe Inn is only about 3 blocks from the restaurant so we were able to walk to dinner! We will definitely return to the Old Santa Fe Inn next time we visit Santa Fe!

We arrived late due to air delay, but were greeted by Hotel personnel that was very friendly and helpful. We were directed to our room & found a large room w/fireplace. This was Labor Day weekend & we stayed at a small motel, so were pleasantly surprise at the quality of the room. The room is professionally decorated with nice heavy furniture, thick towels, and quality linens. The only thing that we couldn't fix was the air conditioner that was mounted at celing level. Of course, the problem could have been our old eyes. Our son found the remote control the next morning and the cooling functioned well. The room came with a complimentary breakfast that was really good. This breakfast included scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, cereal, assorted fruit, yogurt, and even a waffle iron to bake your own waffle. The breakfast was great, but the thing we were most impressed with was the absolute quietness of the room. We have never stayed anywhere quieter even though we were near a major street. The location of the motel was so convenient to the square that we were able to comfortably walk. We will go back to this first rate facility. Thank you Trip Advisor!

Stayed a weekend at the hotel in July. Great location close to the plaza, rooms were clean with nice decor. Quality breakfast as well as staff and mgt. I will stay there again..

The Best Hotel in Downtown Santa Fe

I stayed at the Old Santa Fe Inn just recently in August. I was worried after reading the reviews in here but when I got there the room was very clean and lovely. The Manager and a all the staff were very nice and helpful. I reccomended this hotel to everyone I know the rates are resonable and the Hotel is just perfect. None of these comments were true. If your looking for a place to feel at home I recommend this Hotel. I call it my home away from home .VERY VERY NICE !

Frustrating experience! Booked reservation online through Expedia. Upon arrival around 1pm, claimed room not available until 4pm! When returned to check in later, said room NOT available, but offered "nicer" room available through another of their properties (Dancing Ground of the Sun, Camas de Santa Fe), for same "good" rate. DGOTS and CDSF were located in inconvenient locations, and rooms were not at all like at the Old Santa Fe Inn -- dark, small, like cheap motor inn. Since the room we had reserved was not available at Old Santa Fe Inn, we had to rush around Santa Fe to find a decent hotel. :-(

Later, Old Santa Fe Inn refused to refund our stay and lied numerous times to Expedia--first claimed we were happily staying at their hotel, then later said we did not honour the reservation and so had to pay for 1 night, even though it was the Inn that messed up and did not honour our reservation.

**I would highly recommend you avoid future hastles and not depend upon the Old Santa Fe Inn, unless you actually stop by the hotel, check out your Actual room, and book it... in person only.

Very unprofessional and uneven experience--not a hotel to rely in, though you may occasionally have luck with a decent room. Poorly managed, with little attention to customer service. **

The Old Santa Fe Inn will attend to every concern that our guests may have squarely and fairly. We must remember, however, that misunderstandings can occur with on line transactions. Given this, if this guest would kindly contact me directly I will address this with them.

What a great find!

Stayed at the Old Santa Fe on a Sunday night in June. I was a bit nervous after reading some of the reviews but after getting a great rate on their website for a two room suite we decided to chance it. What a pleasant surprise. This hotel has been recently re modelled and everything in the suite was clean and new. The complimentary breakfast was excellent served in the dining room, a change from cafeteria style motels. They even had a comp barbeque on that night. Free internet access was another plus and it was a five min pleasant walk to the plaza. All staff was really friendly and helpful. If you can get a good rate I would recommend this hotel as a great option

Great management

Although I didn't actually get to stay at this hotel, management gave a last minute FULL REFUND. I booked a room for 12/27 through 12/30 on the 12/26. When I arrived to check in at about 9 pm, I was informed that the hotel had been overbooked and was sent to the sister hotel, which was only a few blocks away. We really wanted to stay closer to town than the sister hotel but management was very generous in granting us a full refund on such short notice. The hotel looked very nice and I will consider staying there next time I'm in santa fe.

Great place!

We stayed for 2 nights and it was great. Very easy walk to the plaza and nice room. After we got home, I realized that we had left 2 of our own pillows on the bed. The staff had them and FedExed them to us. We'll definitely be back!

Never Again

Hotels really screwed up. At the peak of Indian Market, they cancelled our reservation, even though we were already staying at the hotel! Old Santa Fe Inn, instead of checking with us, since we were already IN the hotel, elected to accept the cancellation. Luckily, only one of our two rooms was cancelled and so we bunked up, but the roll-away bed was awful and the staff was very unhelpful and unapologetic. Some of the rooms were very small, almost to the point of being hard to walk around in, while others were very spacious with fireplaces. Make SURE you have one of the larger rooms, and TRIPLE check your reservations if booking through Hotels.

Awful Experience

Although we had been confirmed in a room with a queen size bed, we were put in a room with twin beds (not two full size beds, but twins). Most of the rooms are on the first floor with entry from the parking lot, so it is very noisy at night. Also, since the hotel is non-smoking, we had people smoking and drinking outside of our room all night. We had no luck in getting our room changed, and after two nights of no sleep, we checked out of the room at 5am (two night earlier than planned) and moved to a different hotel. The hotel staff was not helpful and appeared to be staffed by students on Summer break. While the location of the hotel is great, we had a much better experience staying on Cerillos Road (about a mile out of town and at less than half the price). We are still working on getting a refund for the nights not spent at the hotel and for the differential cost of the inferior room. Do yourself a favor and stay anywhere but here.

Top Local Tips for Santa Fe

One visit is more than enough Santa Fe is charming, for about 1/2 day. After that, I was bored silly. I thought it is a dump, and fail to see how people rave about Santa Fe.

Get out and see the surrounding area Make some day trips- Los Almos, Bandalier, 10 thousand waves, Chimao all were fun

Altitude sickness is a pain I had headaches and shortness of breath but I think that it was due to the altitude. Give yourself an extra day to adjust and drink lots of water. Also, wear comfortable shoes since everything is within walking distance.
