Historical Traveller Reviews of La Posada de Santa Fe Hotel

True Santa Fe Beauty!

from mindie
If you are looking for a "standard hotel room" this is not it! Each room is individual and unique. We stayed for two days at the beginning of the week and two days at the end of the week after traveling to Taos. Both rooms were very "Santa Fe" in their decor and the grounds were beautiful. The food was good but our only complaint would be somewhat slow service but hey, you're on vacation so just go to eat when you are not in a hurry! The staff was very helpful from restaurants to bike riding routes. We would definitely go back!

Old hotel with bad management

from A TripAdvisor Member
I should have listened to my wife who went to Trip Advisor and read the reviews of this hotel before we went to Santa Fe. Of course I didn't and instead based my choice for two nights on American Express Fine Hotels and Leaders Club. Our reservation was made through AE and was clearly stated for a "fireplace room" with a rate quoted. When we checked in they took our car and when I asked about a claim check they said no problem just use your name. We had a resort charge on top of our quoted room rate even though we never went to the spa. Be aware of this hidden charge. We also were told that we had breakfast for two and one lunch for two included. Well guess what breakfast for two was a cupon for $30. and lunch was $35. try eating in their Fuego restraunt for that! We went to our assigned room and there was no fireplace. The bell man was very kind and said he would find another room for us. 30 min later I had to call, and was told that he forgot us, but had found another room with a fireplace and it was AE fault for the mistake. The new room was nice but for the lack of furniture, lack of closet rod, the black mold growing in the shower and the tile about to fall off the wall. I called the rooms manager and showed her the bath problems which she blamed it on maintenance rather than house keeping. Everyone said sorry but that was it, no room rate change, basket of pinon candy, nothing. One night we had turn down one we didn't. One morning we got a newspaper one we didn't. I could go on about this bad service. But what topped it off was after check out they couldn't find the car "because you don't have your claim check" remember me asking for a check when we checked in. It took 30 minutes to find the car and made us run late that day. We won't go back. This is not a quality spa and hotel. Moral for me is listen to my wife and read Trip Advisor before booking. I only wish Trip Advisor had a 0 star rating this hotel deserves it.

Horrible Customer Service

from A TripAdvisor Member
My Sister just had her wedding here this summer and it was a Catastrophe!! The staff was rude to most of her guests, the actual wedding coordinator from the hotel walked out 10 minutes before the ceremony, the bridal Suite that was promised and reserved was given to someone else, therefore they had to move to another hotel on their wedding night. The sleeping rooms were dirty and dark, and room service was a-wall the entire weekend. I feel so bad for my sister as this was intended to be the most incredible day of her life and instead it was a nightmare.

A relaxing Inn, Great Rooms

from triple stength
Very pretty property near shopping and the Plaza. The courtyard was a pleasant place to eat breakfast. My wife enjoyed her day at the spa and walking to the nearby shops during the afternoon.
I would return.

Not worth the money

from A TripAdvisor Member
Very disappointing. We stayed here about 3 years ago and had a nice, large room w/ fireplace and patio. Booking the stame "deluxe" room this time we got a small, dark room that was so small that the front door hit the armoir everytime you entered (#148). Only got turn-down one out of four nights and our used wine glasses sat in the room for 2 days before someone took them outside! And to heap insult on injury they tried to increase our daily rate for the last 3 days due to "busy season". In their favor, they reversed those charges before we left, but if we hadn't complained they would have charged us a premium for service we never got. This was our last stay at La Posada. For the money we spent we can certainly do better elsewhere!

Not a 4 Star Hotel

Some policies are so short sighted they deserve to be pointed out. This place charges you $20 if you cancel your reservation at any time. That is ridiculous.

La Posada is great!

from Sleep_Deprived
I manage travel, meetings and events for a firm in San Francisco, so I evaluate hotels all the time. La Posada is a very nice property and a good value. $300 per night is not a lot of money for a room at a spa. It is appropriately rustic and quaint and the staff is very good. It is not a swanky Four Seasons type resort but the grounds and the spa are definitely 5-star. I think a few of the other reviews are much too harsh. I will always stay there when we go to Santa Fe.

Terrible indeed

from A TripAdvisor Member
They overcharge you for a humid room with no change of sheets, only to find out when you reach home that you were double-charged(yes, they chjarge you twice the already ridiculous amount) a month later. Two months later, they give you a PARTIAL refund on the second charge!!!
Unethical and unprofessional, beware!!!

Nasty bathrooms for $350/night!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Wow. What a disappointment! I checked out the website and this looked like a first class resort worthy of a splurge. Instead we were treated to bathtub stained with mildew, cheap indoor outdoor carpet, broken toilet handle, no robes or adequate towels in room. We asked to see two other rooms but they were not any better. We had also booked spa appointments at the Avanyu Spa. Two of my friends appointments were changed without notification due to a wedding party being there.
Spa does not have jacuzzi or sauna.
The grounds are beautiful, but the rooms are on par with a motel. The food at the restaurant El Fuego was excellent.

We had a great experience

from travelinglady214
I had read reviews before leaving on our trip. I had reservations after doing so. Upon our arrival we were met with great courtesy, friendliness, and a very informed staff. Our room was larger than I had expected. The bathroom had double sinks, walk-in shower, and a large tub. We had a lounge chair/ottoman, three sitting chairs, a desk and table. The patio was very large with a table and chairs. The turndown service was superb - mints, hotel activities for the next day and menu. Our towels and amenities were replenished during turndown and the next day during clean-up. The mini-bar and snacks were ample and very good choices. We had dinner in the restaurant our first night and could not have asked for better service and food. The spa was wonderful. Granted, the pool could use some improvements i.e. more chairs and a little better kept. The bar closed one afternoon due to rain and never reopened. But, we were accomodated by room service. We travel frequently and stay in top rated hotels and spas. Our experience was wonderful at La Posada. The carpet could use some udating. But, our overall experience was great.
