Still like this hotel

from restonres
This was my second stay here, and I'd stay again. It has its charm (courtyard style hotel with large ristras hanging about), and the price is really good for being just a few yards from the plaza ($119/night). (It was next door to the Inn of the Anasazi, and I have to admit to looking longingly at it each time we walked by ;-)

We were looking forward to having a (wood) fire in the fireplace, but given that the fireplace was in the cute but dark and small, drafty and pretty uncomfortable sitting room (adobe-molded couches with cushions on them), and that you had to call the desk to have someone bring you a small amount of wood and light the fire for you, we never bothered. We stayed in very comfortable king bed in the second room and watched the Olympics on the good tv. Unfortunately, the small bathroom was perhaps 3 feet away from the bed, so there was little privacy.

They provided a small refrigerator, a coffee maker, good selection of Santa Fe-related literature, and the desk managers recommended terrific dinner and breakfast restaurants (Plaza Cafe for breakfast - don't miss it!) - very nice and helpful. You can park in the garage beneath the hotel, but note it's $10 or $12/day (not mentioned by the desk staff when I asked where we could park our car). Also, the ramp out of the garage is so steep that we severely scraped the undercarriage of our car each time we left, expecting to leave the muffler behind.

Very good location

A great location, close to Plaza. Room needed some TLC but staff was very good. Would stay there again.

A good place to stay

from AlbuquerqueGAL
Stayed at the hotel over Thanksgiving weekend. Easy walking distance to everything. The room had a nice sitting area with a fireplace and tv, also a refigerator and coffe pot. Nice Aveda soaps and fluffy towels in the bathroom. Clean. Would stay here again. Called hotel directly and paid $109 for a Saturday night. A nice Santa Fe hotel.

Mixed review...but would go back

from cynflyco
Just returned from our 2 night stay in a "traditional king" room. Pros: great location, good bed (they just upgraded them I think), frig in room, and just under $150 / night. Cons: it was very warm & stuffy in the room as the hotel only has central heat OR a/c and had already switched to heat. It was in the low 70's while we were in Santa Fe and the room (day & night) was very warm. A call to the front desk resulted in being told to prop open the door to the room, which we and many other guests did when in the room during the day. Thank goodness for the ceiling fan which helped a bit. Other cons: the jetted tub promoted in the room was a joke. It was tiny, and the jets had encrusted black guck all over them. Would never take a bath in there! Maid service was below par even after tipping well the 1st night, and the room was obviously dated & worn. Bottom line -- we would go back if we knew we weren't going to spend much time in the room (usually the case in Santa Fe!) because of the great price and location.

t bother you, it can be a deal

from Pasqualinho
The hotel isn't perfect, but its location is great and if you can get their internet rates (135$ for a suite!), it is the best deal I have seen in Santa Fe. If you are someone who is bothered by little things not because they really affect you, but because you like everything perfect you won't be happy. E.g., a friend traveling with us was upset that the window was "broken" but what that meant was that it was not flush on top against the frame; it was open a small crack. There was no noise, there was a screen, and no way this was a problem for the AC. The friend didnt notice that the view was great.

Yes, if spent 200$ I wouldnt be as pleased. It is also true that if they made a lot of minor repairs that would seem to take much, fussy people would have no complaints.

1. Great location
2. Suites were very large with balconies or good views (we were on the 2nd and 3rd floor).
3. Clean with the usual mini fridge, hair dryer, iron, 2 tvs, etc.
4. Reception pleasant, but low key (very New Mexican to me)
5. Firm bed
6. Pull out couch seemed fine.
7. Setting seemed nice and at least not another fake adobe
8. Great internet price (some sites were offering the same room for 100 more)

Weaker -- things that didnt bother me, but might others

1. Minor touch-ups needed: repainting balconies, re-enamel the tub, light switches not set into the wall properly.
2. Bathroom not huge for an "upscale" place, and fixtures/pressure not the greatest
3. No restaurant (not really a problem it's Santa Fe)

Rustic, charming....comfortable

from kyler23
This hotel is very charming, with a lot of "local" atmosphere. It is 50 yards from the plaza - close enough to walk, just enough distance to avoid any unwanted noise.
The room was very comfortable, especialy the bed! The rooms open to an enclosed, open air courtyard that is peaceful and quiet. The stairs are narrow, made of wood, but is part of the charm, I think.
The furnishings reminded me of many ski condos in Colorado - southwest decor - rustic, sturdy, comfortable.
This is a place to stay if you are looking for a "local" experience or a cozy romantic getaway.
If you want corporate luxury, all glass and brass doors, a concierge, or travel with a large amount of luggage, you should look elsewhere - probably the Eldorado. There are no elevators to the second story rooms, although there is convenient disabled access to the ground floor rooms.
This is perfect if you like to explore on your own and want a warm, welcome place to come "home" to. Readers (and writers) will appreciate the front porch.
My advice: skip the car (12.00/day parking), take a twenty dollar shuttle from the airport. Leave the laptop at home, use the library next door to check your e-mail for free. Rent a bicycle for "long" trips.
If you are the independent, explore on your own type, you'll love it...

Good Value and Great Location at the Hotel Plaza Real

from maryanne12345
I booked a last minute trip for early April through Travelocity (last minute deals) and chose this hotel because it was close to the Plaza and because the Trip Advisor reviews were pretty good. The Plaza Real has an off-street, underground parking garage -- but does charge $11 a day for parking. My Travelocity deal stated "free parking" so I took this up with Venus at the front desk who adjusted my bill to make sure I wasn't charged.

Rooms were rather plain and a bit dark (as noted by other posts), and did not have the charm of some other places I've stayed, but ours was clean, included a fireplace (nice because there was still a chill in the air at night), and quite comfortable.

If you book through Travelocity be advised that there is no on-sight pool (they have a shuttle that goes to the Radison). The staff was learning a new computer system, so check-in was a bit slow, but overall we had no complaints. It's a great location -- but it is not an upscale hotel. This was fine for us, since we were out and around most of the time.

Venus, at the front desk, was helpful and prompt and solved any problems we brought to her. Other staff seemed less tuned in to what was needed -- I think they need to do more staff training, but no one was rude or surly.

I love Santa Fe, and I brought my 16 year-old daughter for her first trip to the southwest. I'm including the photos she took of the hotel.

Great Location

The hotel was within 1 block of the Plaza which was great. We did
not have to use our car constantly which was refreshing. The hotel
staff were not friendly and inviting, however, the room was roomy,
clean and decorated in the southwestern style. The hotel was
extremely quiet which was relaxing too.

Bait and switch

I made reseervations for two nights through Expedia for a room with two double beds as I was traveling with a friend. We wanted to be near the Plaza, and that was what we got. However what we didn't get was a room with two double beds. I arrived suffering from a stomach flu and really just wanted to get to my room (which was paid for in advance through Expedia). I was told by the polite front desk staff that I had been "upgraded" to a king suite and since it had a sofabed I was getting the 2 beds I paid for. I asked what the sofabed was like and he admitted it wasn't very comfortable and to check it out because I should call if I needed a rollaway instead. The room was dark, the drapes were faded and dirty and hanging off the track. The sofabed mattress was a joke. But when we asked for a rollaway we were told they were out of them, but they could get another sofabed mattress to put on top of the one we already had. I told them this was in no way acceptable, and I had paid for a room with 2 beds and that's what I wanted. He made a comment about me making my reservations "online" - like I shouldn't have expected to get what I paid for.
He finally gave us a second room with another king bed - but since we were getting "2 rooms for the price of one" they came and took away the mattress for the sofa bed. What's up with that? That made the sofa look funny and uncomfortble to sit on. The second room had two doors and one didn't work. When my friend took the towel off the rack in the bathroom the rack fell off. There was a huge puddle of water outside my room that I couldn't avoid. The lobby reeks of smoke from the bar. They stock the rooms with plastic cups instead of glasses. They also charge $12/night for parking. I hope to go back to Santa Fe one day, but I'll never go back to the Hotel Plaza Real.

Great location

from lizardMarquette_MI
Just got back from New Mexico and stayed here four nights. This hotel has a great location and you can walk to Plaza, museums, shopping and many restaurants. Rooms were dark (poor lighting), though clean. Only has a bar, but that is not a hindrance since there is so much great food closeby. We stayed in Jr Suite and the bedroom/king bed was nice & big, but bathroom is small as is the living area. Seating in living area not really comfortable. Staff is friendly but not very helpful. So if you just need a place to park your stuff and sleep while enjoying the art & culture, this is a good deal for the location. I would stay here again.
