Absolutely Terrific!

Our stay at the Eldorado was fabulous! My husband and I stayed for three nights with our two Jack Russell puppies. This hotel is SO dog friendly, they greeted the dogs every day (twice a day) with cookies at the Concierge desk, along with lots of pets. The room was great, the lounge was nice, and the staff could not have been better. Our next trip to Santa Fe (with or without the dogs), will include a stay at the Eldorado.

Not worth the price

from A TripAdvisor Member
I was torn about paying such a high rate (even with group) when I could save even $20 a night by staying across the street at the Hilton, but I decided to go for it at the 4* hotel. It just wasn't worth it.

The public areas are very nice Southwestern decor. The food was good (although some said the service in the lobby restaurant for lunch took 45 minutes to get their food). My room on the second floor was just a moderate hotel room. Furniture looked beaten up, carpet was worn and stained, even tile in bathroom floor cracked. Towels were rough--noticable with the dry air. Bed was comfortable, windows do open (though traffic noise as I was over the street), extra art work. Parking free during day but $16 overnight--Hilton is $8 and public garage $8. They add $2.50 daily maid gratuity to bill.

I saw the living and dining rooms of the Presidential suite. It is also southwestern style with bench seating along the wall and a working fireplace in the living area. Not as fancy as I expected.

I enjoyed Santa Fe and as the old town area is walkable, I would recommend considering other choices that would provide a better value.

Loved the Eldorado

After reading the reviews of the Eldorado here, I was hesitant to book it for our trip to Santa Fe. I found a great internet special on their web site, so I took a chance. I am pleased to say that I made the right choice. Our stay at the Eldorado was wonderful! We had a deluxe room with a fireplace and balcony for about $70.00/night less than the going rate. The room was immaculate and looked brand new. The bathroom was spotless and fresh and the maid service was excellent. The hotel staff couldn't have been more accomodating and friendly. Even the waitstaff remembered our names after one day. The food was excellent as well. The hotel is located right in the heart of the Plaza area and we could walk almost everywhere. I was also told that they are getting ready to begin a $15,000,000 renovation. If you are on the fence, I urge you to try the Eldorado. I was very pleasantly surprised!

Finding gold in the high desert!

The El Dorado is a beautiful hotel, filled with amazing Southwestern art and sculpture everywhere you turn. The rooms are large and very comfortable-ours even had a working fireplace- talk about cozy! We also had a balcony and an amazing view of snow-capped mountains from our room. February is the perfect time to visit- our deluxe room was very reasonable in price since February is the "low season" in northern New Mexico. We stayed three nights and I did not want to leave!

The staff was very attentive and the concierge staff was first rate. They had pre-printed directions to just about anywhere you would want to go in the area and were aces with restaurant reservations and advice on the area sights.

The hotel is within walking distance of the Plaza, the State Capitol and scores of art galleries and museums, not to mention fabulous restaurants. The Old House restaurant in the hotel is one of the best in the U.S. and was a lovely and memorable dining experience.

I have traveled a lot and stayed in many, many hotels so I am not "gushing" without reason here. The El Dorado really is a wonderful hotel and I liked it (and the Santa Fe area) so much that I am already planning my return visit to this wonderful hotel in the heart of Santa Fe. The hotel would be a good choice for business or pleasure.

A Dog Hotel

We stayed at the Eldorado Hotel in Santa Fe over Christmas 2004. On a positive note, all of the hotel staff were extremely friendly and anxious to please. We reserved a "deluxe" room on the 5th floor with a fireplace. Unfortunately, the fireplaces were not constructed properly and the entire floor smells like a campsite and the fire alarm goes off several times a day due to poor ventilation on the fireplaces. Additionally, the rooms are unimpressively decorated and equipped for the price of the room. Most upsetting to us, however, was the fact that the hotel allows dogs. The majority of hotel occupants during our stay had dogs in their rooms, as well as the main eating and bar areas. We were not told in advance that the hotel had this policy. The barking was MOST annoying and intrusive.

Beware, website inaccurate and spa subpar

from A TripAdvisor Member
My fiance and I stayed a few nights in October. While the website says free Wi-fi access I was told this was removed last year! So much for the website being up-to-date. We were also very disappointed with the spa treatments. They do not have a spa, they have a single room where you can get spa treatments. We were very disapointed with the treatments and they mixed them up as well. So she got mine and I got hers.

I was also a little shocked at the $16 per day parking fee.

One bright positive was the Old House restaurant which had excellent food.

For the price and the features I would suggest going somewhere else and stopping by for dinner one night.

Buyer Beward

My husband and I stayed at the Eldorado Hotel for a weekend in October 2004. The first night we stayed there was a Saturday night and the room was right over their bandstand and they had a band that played extremely loud music until about 1 a.m. It was impossible to sleep through the overwhelming din. They also charge $16 a night to park in their parking garage, and this includes guests of the hotel. Otherwise, the room was very nice and clean and we had no complaints regarding the room itself. However, buyer beware!!!! When I checked my Visa bill the next week, they had charged someone elses' bill ($296) to my credit card!!!! I tried to call their billing department directly, thinking they would fix the bill immediately but was told that Reservations Manager would have to approve the refund!!! When I tried to call him, he was in a meeting and couldn't take my call. Fortunately, we had made the reservation with AAA, who intervened for us and the hotel called me immediately and made the correction. I hate to think what would have happened if we had to go it alone. The hotel was nicely situated fairly close to the Plaza and the walking tour starts right in the lobby, which was convenient. Needless to say, we will find other accommodations next time we go to Santa Fe.

Eldorado Hotel

We spent 4 nights at the Eldarodo Hotel. It is definitely one of the nicer hotels in Santa Fe, however when we visited in August the lobby area was under redevelopment and being turned into a day spa area etc. We appreciate that renovations and alternations need to be made regularly however we would have appreciated it if they had either informed us of this, or discounted our room rate in light of the full facilities not being available.
The conference was very well run at the facility and the hotel meals that were provided at the conference were lovely. We found the service professional yet lacking the extra punch and approachability that should come with a top class hotel. The pool is very small and limited seating meant if you weren't up first thing to secure a chair then that was it. This disappointed us as I was looking forward to spending some r&r time in the pool with my son.
The hotel is in a great location and minutes away from top class restaurants, museums, galleries and the plaza. Great trip to Santa Fe, but I can't help feeling like a little bit of pizazz was missing.

Excellent service and a bit of the southwest at your door

from A TripAdvisor Member
We have been frequenting Santa Fe each December for the past 10 years and stay at the El Dorado each time. The service is impecable, and the hotel brings with it a charm of the Southwest to your door. The restaurants are wonderful as is the lounge. The hotel is central to many of the museums and galaries and has an easy access in and out for those who are driving.

Over rated

Over rated and over priced. Nice public areas, but the room was small and showing some wear.

Top Local Tips for Santa Fe

Great eats in Santa Fe Geronimo's restaurant was very good. One of the chef's specialty was Elk and it was excellent. Service was top shelf.

Dog friendly This hotel welcomes our 4 legged friends!. Special menus and bedding.

Jewlery If you are going to buy jewlery buy from the local's in the town square. Best value short of going to the pueblo's directly.
