Top Local Tips for Santa Fe

Run don't walk to Santa Fe School of Cooking Chef's Adventure The renowned SFS of Cooking just launched this adventure and we were along for the maiden voyage. Three or four chefs/restaurants in a 2 hr + walking tour - sampling and learning. Book it early in your stay if at all possible. We learned a lot. Staff is enthusiastic, knowledgeable and welcoming. We were able to enjoy 2 of the 4 restaurants on succeeding nights. Just first rate!

Overall attitude of wait staff I would be leary of both the Pinon Grill and Tomasita's Restaurant. Both had major issues but for different reasons. The Pinon Grill was extremely overrated and was a costly meal for below average food. There was one server and while she tried to keep up service suffered, althought she was friendly and did try. On the other hand Tomasita's was a great value and the food was good (if you like New Mexican cuisine), however the service was horrible! The server was rude and basically refused to wait on us...not sure why. I spoke with several shop owners in the days after our experience and they shared with me that this is a common problem with "locals" and "tourists". In my opinion, the overall attitude towards me as a tourist was very apparent and would make me think twice about visiting Santa Fe in the future. There are many other cities in the southwest that value the tourist dollar.
