Great Value for Money

from PGarcia
Right on old Route 66, this hotel is not fancy but definitely comfortable, with friendly staff. The photos of the premises provide a flattering image of the actual site. There are art deco touches in the rooms, but not an all-out rendering of this currently trendy style. I slept in and missed the continental breakfast, but fresh-baked cookies and a carafe of coffee were available in the lobby when I checked out, which I happily consumed and tided me over until I found a place to have lunch.

The location is convenient to downtown restaurants and shops, and a trolley or bus ride away from Albuquerque's old town. I would certainly book a room here on a return trip if the price was right.

Hotel Blue

from sandwalker
This is from a very fussy traveler (I hate old rooms/run down furniture and dirty rugs and unclean bathrooms). Hotel Blue was a surprise, right in the heart of Albuquerque, within walking distance of good (but old) restaurants and was even close to AMTRAK and GREYHOUND stations. Hotel blue had denim color walls in the bathroom, which was nicer than the rough stucco usually found in other bathrooms (if it is not made of faux marble) and new toilets. I have been in some expensive hotels and their beds would be actually be uncomfortable but Hotel Blue beds were very good (since I had aches and pains from the long traveling). The new hotel was clean and had better continental breakfasts (you make your own waffles) and VERY nice hotel staff, including the manager of the hotel (who was there almost all the time).
The bad part was some run down areas of the neighborhood, expected of city areas, but there is shuttle service and city buses on the next block if you don't have a car (there was NO car rentals available on Sunday)

great for the price

Good location - right off downtown and within a reasonable walk from Old Town (20 min.) For the price I was very happy. The rooms were clean (nothing fancy thought!), breakfast was included along with wireless internet, airport shuttle, and parking. I was a little worried after reading some of the other reviews but I think the hotel is under new management which might explain my experience.

Safe Clean Cheap

While in town we found the Hotel Blue ont the internet. We were not immediately Impressed from their website thehotelblue but decided to try it because of their location downtown within walking distance to restaurants, shops, convention center and old town. Rooms were clean and the free breakfast was above average. We will stay again when we return.

Awful Experience

from A TripAdvisor Member
Summary: only stay here if you are cheap and really need the downtown location. There are plenty of nicer places for the same money just a short cab ride from downtown. I ignored the bad reviews here thinking people were just whining, but this was by far my worst experience with a hotel.

1) Checked in, didn't have my reservation. Had room though. Went to room 1. Only 1 bed (needed 2). Back to the desk, then up to room 2. Only 1 bed. Back to the desk, up to room 3. 2 beds, TV doesn't work. Called the desk. Sorry no more rooms. Called expedia to get transferred to a new hotel. Magically Hotel Blue has another room for me when expedia calls. Move to room 4, everything works and 2 beds.
2) Extremely noisy every night - people running in the halls, partying, carrying on, etc. This hotel is near the downtown bars, so it's full of teenagers (they seemed < 21) partying until the wee hours. Complaints helped a bit, but resulted in crank calls presumably from busted partiers (until I unplugged the phone).
3) Every day when I returned to my room, I was locked out and had to return to the front desk for a new key.
4) If you need to use the restroom at night, the only light you can turn on lights up the bathroom area on both sides of the door, so you'll wake up your roommate too.
5) Boutique, 3 star hotel? Are you kidding? This is a motel 6 with some blue paint and tiles, and an attempt at art-deco style.

Never again!

We found the Hotel Blue on the internet while searching for hotels and it looked like a cool little hotel in the heart of the city. From the minute we walked thorugh the doors our vacation took a odd little turn. Since there were two couples traveling together we had requested rooms next to each other, or at the very least, on the same floor. Nope, not available. Since we were planning to stay for a week, they said they could move us after the weekend was over. We were given the keys to our room and we walked in to find some else already occupied the room! They sent us back upstairs with a maid to find an empty room. She found a room, but had to clean it while we waited outside, this took maybe 15 minutes. I am not sure the sheets got changed. In the meantime, our companions had room problems of their own. The toilet did not work. The staff gave them another room and they entered an already occupied room too! We decided to head off for dinner while they figured things out and returned to see nothing had been fixed and a very large wedding party had taken over EVERY corner of the place. After finally getting our rooms squared away we went to bed, only to be interupted repeatedly by loud yelling, music and drunken brawls by the pool. We checked out VERY early the next morning and said we would not be returning. We got a partial refund on the room cost. I haven't even mentioned the fact that I booked rooms with microwaves and refridgerators and was told upon arrival that those rooms were not for the 79.00 internet deal. I booked that vacation through a travel agent and told them so, I had all the documentation with me, she did not care.

Location Location Location!!!

I located the Hotel Blue while searching for hotels located in Downtown Albuquerque. They are located within five minutes walking distance to restaurants, shopping malls, movie theaters and most importantly for me the Convention Center. Upon arrival i was greeted with a warm smile from the staff and found the hotel to be above my expectations in many ways. First of all they offer Free Secured Parking. Something all of the other downtown hotels charge for. They also offer Free Wireless High Speed and were installing hardwired cat-6 to the rooms! The rooms were very clean and well maintained and quite comfortable. Every morning they delivered a Newspaper to my door at no charge. They also offered a free healthy breakfast. Which was important to me as i am on a diet. Overall i found there service and ammenities to be more than expected at a price point less than many franchise hotels in downtown. Whenever my Business takes me to Albuquerque i will be Staying at The Hotel Blue Again.

Far cry from a boutique hotel

from mcmom
A good value, but certainly no boutique as advertised. A dressed up former budget hotel thanks to a fresh addition of some deco style decor, a lot of the low-end ambiance remains - cheap towels and toiletries, plastic cups, radiator on the wall, etc. The "suites" are simply two former regular double rooms put together, plus a small fridge and a coffeemaker. No restaurant onsite, an unpleasant surprise when we arrived late with cranky hungry kids. However, for the price, which included a very good continental breakfast, you can't argue with the value.

Above average

I stayed with my family on August 11. The staff was very tattooed and very courteous, the room was clean and with an extra stilysh twist over your run-of-the-mill hotel rooms and the bed very comfortable. I was worried by the reports of sleepless nights spent listening to drunk undergrads---not in August. However, as reported by others, breakfast was indeed way above average (waffles!)

Nice place - Very convenient

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed at The Hotel Blue on 7/1/04 and was very pleased with the room, the price, and certainly the great downtown location! Cute room had king bed, ironing board, nice big desk, entertainment center, and plenty of towels. It was a Thursday night, so everything was quiet and I enjoyed my view of the little park. Especially appreciated the gated parking area for my rental car. The free breakfast was okay (the juice machine was broken) but freshly made waffles were good. Everyone at the front desk was polite and helpful. For persons w/o car, the bus stop was next to the hotel and downtown was totally walkable.

Top Local Tips for Albuquerque

Within a short walk of the Hotel Blue The Launch Pad is a great bar if you are into the heavy metal scene. The Sunshine Theater down the street also has good rock concerts. The Indian souvenir store down the street (forget the name, but you can't miss the big Indian head out front - across the street from the hat store) has THE BEST PRICES AND SELECTIONS of authentic Native American crafts of anywhere I have seen in New Mexico and Arizona. We skip the markets in Gallup and other places and do our serious purchasing there. Nice quality at a fraction of what you would pay elsewhere.

Not so good Use the Hotel shuttle

botanical gardens and aquarium Very nice! we took some nice pictures of butterflys and sharks.
