Historical Traveller Reviews of Hyatt Regency Albuquerque Hotel

Not as bad as I thought but not up to Hyatt standards

from antshe
I had no choice in hotels as I was attending a conference. I was a bit nervous after reading the reviews. Some of the reviews were on target but it wasn't as horrible as I was afraid it may be.
Some positives: they changed out the mattresses to new pillowtops which were wonderful; the water pressure was amazing; there is a Starbucks in the lobby; I had a problem with the printer in the computer center (a room with a computer and printer) at midnight and they sent up someone to fix the computer immediately
Now, for the negatives: the elevators are very slow...very, very slow; the hotel staff was less than courteous and slow to respond; wake up calls that were requested did not occur; my room was large but not very clean; my towels, that I threw over the shower curtain rod in the morning, were still there when I returned to my room in the evening; the business center computer was perhaps a dial up, VERY slow connection; my company (and those attending the conference) spent over $200K in 2 days and we were treated like someone who showed up without a reservation.
I would not stay at this site again unless I had no choice.

Run away... far away!

I need to have the choice of no dots... this has to have been one of my worst hotel stays ever. The staff are uniformly rude, sarcastic and eminently unhelpful. Their response was typically a shrug of the shoulders and the comment "that's the way it is". The rooms are spartan and the amenities are few & far between (except, the pool & gym are nice). Everything is an additional cost and the room itself is vastly overpriced. We were there for a conference at the Convention Centre across the road and while the convenience might be a consideration, we quickly moved to the Embassy Suites nearby (and you should too!) and could cover daily taxis with the money saved.
Not recommended! At all.

the worst of the Hyatts

I like the Hyatt chain but the Albuquerque Hyatt is hopeless. The location is too good, actually. They have it made so they don't try. It is a convention hotel-- long lines, indifferent management. Without going into unnecessary detail, the hotel dropped the ball on me in several different ways. I am not a complainer, but if I had not complained I would have been a wimp. Management's reaction was simply to hose me off. Next time I stay in Albuquerque it will be somewhere else.

Nice staff, Nice Gym, Nice Food, Horrible Bed!

Stayed one night at this hotel with my girlfriend and here is how it went...

We had dinner at the hotel restaurant and the food /service was really good. The hotel had a good location and the room was pretty clean. There was also a really nice gym with new equipment and a nice pool / spa... However, we will never stay there again for one reason. The bed in the room was horrible! It felt like sleeping on a bed of brick. Neither my girlfriend or I could sleep the entire night because it was so uncomfortable.

No Frills but great location and Fantastic Gym!!!

from Lizzielee
After reading the reveiws i was nervous... however i found the hotel to be fine. The rooms were clean and large. They provided soap, shampoo and conditioner but no hand cream - which i found strange - especially because of the dry climate.

HOWEVER, the gym, for a hotel, was fantastic - 3 stairmasters, 3 bikes, 3 eliptical trainers, 4 treadmills plus weights and free weights - so if you need to get your cardio fix while you are traveling, stay here.

Location was also great - close to the main street restaurants and movie theater and easy to find from the main road.
Parking seemed expensive - $15.

Terribly Disappointed

I stayed in this hotel July 2003 and was utterly disappointed. I was in Albuquerque to attend a convention at the convention center. Service was slow to non-existant. By the end of my stay I was on a first name basis with the manager. My room was "ok" but the response from the front desk staff to the restaurant manager and assitant manager were downright rude. Even the staff of Starbucks (who are actually hotel staff since this is not a "Starbucks" owned store) were unprepared for a hotel full of guests trying to get to morning sessions of the convention. Room service was late and I was told by the management that they couldn' t help it because everyone order breakfast to be delivered at the same time - we were all going to the same convention. Everything in the vicinity shuts down at 6:00PM on weekdays and most everything is closed on weekends. Even walking in groups we did not feel really safe walking at night. Just based on the location I would not recommend this hotel.

Overpriced dump with no amenities - Look elsewhere

Visited in 1/05. For a hotel as expensive as this one you would think it would have many amentities - instead everything has a charge. All local calls had a charge as well as dialing our 800 number calling card, also a charge for parking, extra if you want to take your car in and out of the garage. They tried to charge us $4.00 for a small bottle of water we never had in our room and never drank. When we checked in I told the front desk my luggage would be delivered from our airline. Later during our dinner at a restaurant I received a call from the airline delivery person -she was at the front desk and the hotel staff said I was not registered and my husband was not registered. Finally we dug out our room key number and they found our names. When we got back to the hotel the front desk could not find my luggage and said none had been delivered. After more waiting they found our luggage. The hot tubs were very low on water, had rust on the parts and switched from cold to almost scalding water blowing out of the jets. The matresses were in poor condition and the pillows were thin. Also, no frige and no mircowave. Fitness center was nice. We liked the downtown area restaurants but this hotel is definite thumbs down.

Not Bad

from fdwt994
We stayed for four nights in May, '04. This hotel was OK. I left there thinking it wasn't bad, not so great, just OK. My guess is that the hotel is due to be renovated within the next 5 years. Things weren't falling apart; but the place was starting to show its age.

The room was clean, the pool was unheated and outdoors, however there were also two hot tubs. The excersize facility was above average with plenty of space and machines, along with free weights. Several large T.V.'s on the wall while you work out.

Parking is underneath the hotel, don't make the mistake I made and park in the public parking garage accross the street. To Hyatt's credit, they did adjust my bill for the inconvenience of not knowing where to park (really my fault anyway but I appreciated the gesture.)

We paid $119 a night and I would consider it worth the money.

Utterly disappointing!!

from s Mom
My husband and I travel frequently and have stayed in Hyatt Regency's all over the country. This one was very disappointing.

The lobby was very impressive but our suite was bland and stuffy. We upgraded to a suite, for $200 per night, expecting to have a nice, roomy space. We should have kept the regular room.

Room service was horrible! The first morning, my toast was burned. According to the server, " it was the best he could do because the toaster had been burning toast all morning." My coffee was warm, not hot, and he forgot my water. The next morning, my eggs were overcooked. I expected a hotel of this stature to do everything right, especially the food. Not so!

On our last day, a late check out was requested by us, and was granted. However, I had just stepped out of the shower at shortly after noon, when a maid knocked on the door, and before I could respond, she walked in. So what is the purpose of the privacy sign on the outside doorknob? The front desk apologized and admitted our late departure had not been communicated to the cleaning staff.

Our stay at this hotel was very dissatisfying and we will not stay there again. There are better hotels in the city, for less money.

The Hyatt Regency of Albuquerque is the place to stay. As a promoter, this is the type of hotel we are looking for. Rooms were roomy and clean. Fitness room is a true fitness room, not just a cable system and one treadmill but machine, free weights and lots of cardio equipment. The thing about the Hyatt is location, convenitly located down town to include the restaurants and night life. The biggest item that we liked was the customer service that we received. All the Hyatt staff was awsome from the valet, registration desk, maid service to the restaraunt staff and especially to the sales and catering staff, they tended to all of our needs. Thanks Hyatt, we will be doing business again.
