Outstanding Service

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Nassau Inn---steeped in history with an exquisite Norman Rockwell mural right in the main dining room featuring well appointed accommodations ,excellent fare ,and outstanding, personalize service. This is what awaits you if your travel plans call for a trip to Princeton, New Jersey. Located in the heart of Princeton across from the University campus, the Nassau Inn is a real treasure worthy of your pocket book and your valuable time.

I first discovered the Nassau Inn years ago when I stayed there just before beginning my graduate studies. I was struck then by the careful attention given to preserving the historic character of this landmark building while still offering beautiful accommodations with all the latest amenities.

Today, the Inn is every bit as charming as it was when I first stayed there. It is a bustling, thriving hotel with a highly professional staff that is, at the same time, friendly and anxious to serve. As a frequent guest at the inn and a frequent traveler around the country, I can say with confidence that the service at the Nassau Inn surpasses that of all the other fine hotels I have visited.

When all is said and done, the mark of a truly great hotel rests not only on the quality of its accommodations but on the caliber of its staff.

A case in point is Lynn Woods, an example of the kind of well trained, personable staff awaiting you at the Inn. Professionalism, friendliness, and an obviously sincere desire to put people first best characterize Ms. Woods’ approach to customer service.

Working at the front desk, she is always there to lend a helping hand and provide assistance whenever needed. For people with special needs, such as myself, she goes the extra mile by taking the time from a hectic work schedule to give help to those with difficulties getting around on their own. Many of the hotel services routinely provided in the past seem to have all but disappeared, but not for Ms. Woods and other Inn staff. She anticipates the seemingly little but important details of attending to the practical needs of other customers, whether thoughtfully offering help with luggage or making a simple call ahead for a taxi. And it is no small feat either to keep one’s composure amidst confusion or competing requests for service. Even when dealing with a sometimes demanding public, she manages to remain calm under pressure while maintaining a positive attitude, and warmly greets guests with an engaging smile.

This is just a sample of the kind of people and service you are likely to encounter during your stay at the Inn.

So, if you are looking for a touch of historic Americana and upbeat, service oriented accommodations, the Nassau Inn is the place for you. Once you’ve stayed there, I guarantee you will want to go back again and again. Hope to see you soon at the Nassau Inn!

fantastic

I am from Boston and I just stayed at the Nassau Inn for two nights and had a fantastic stay. The room was a great size and the AC was nice and cold. The matress must have been brand new as I fell right to sleep. I was overwhelmed by the great hospitality and want to thank Lynn W and Mike B for their attention to detail. I will indeed be back.

If you want a mattress on the historical register, stay here

We recently spent four days in Princeton on business. We picked the Nassau Inn because it was centrally located and because it is on the historical register. However, we were very disappointed by the service and amenities, especially because the hotel was rather expensive. Because of an airline delay, we arrived in the middle of the night and were given a room with a double bed (no queen available). The bed was ancient, and mattress was tiny and uncomfortable. It was impossible to get a hot shower (the bath faucet worked, however), and we were awakened early by a housecleaner who wanted to get an early start on our room. She left, and never came back; when we returned to our room at 6:00 p.m. the room still had not been made up. There was no coffee maker in the room, and the service at the breakfast cafe was incredibly slow and unfriendly. On our second morning, the toilet would not stop running, and the plumber sent by the front desk accused us of somehow "stopping up the toilet." The only good thing about this hotel is its location. I have had better service and a more comfortable room at one quarter of the price of this room.

Rather Average

Great location in the centre of town but overpriced for the standard offered. The water did not drain in the bathtub so we asked for a different room which was better. Internet is not free in the room - you have to pay $9.99. Even the business centre charges for internet use. Not what you expect for the price.

Will be Back

The Location was fantastic. Accomodations were great. The staff was friendly(Lynn was very helpful). The food and service at the restaurant was also wonderful. Will be back next year and will not hesitate to recommend this wonderful Historic Inn.

Great location!

The Nassau Inn is located across from Princeton University and surrounded by charming shops and restaurants. Our room was large and had two queen beds but it was in need of updating. We were impressed with the speed and efficiency with which the maintenance staff fixed a couple of problems in the bathroom. Compared with other hotels, housekeeping did an excellent job cleaning the room and the bathroom. The air conditioning was loud and the window shade let in too much light. The Yankee Doodle Tap Room was lovely, but the food and service were just fair. Lynn Woods, the front office manager, was very courteous and helpful.

Pick another Place

Wow, for $300 bucks a night, this is a bad deal. The rooms are dark, the air conditioners make a huge amount of noise, the bathroom in our suite was so tiny. And the upkeep, both in the rooms and the hotel in general is sorely lacking. We asked to move to a different room due to the noisy air, and they never followed up to see if we were ok. We stayed because it is convenient to downtown, but next time, we'll stay at the Hyatt. The only thing positive I can say is that the room service was quick, but they forgot something every morning.

Good location/bad service

from Barsuchok
Indifferent and arrogant personel, terrible rooms: leaking tap, with the yellow spots of rust on sink because of this; tiny room even without a table if you are staying alone; breakfast consisting of coffee, juice and tiny muffins, nothing more, for which you need to show a coupon, which stuff could "forget" to give you upon arrival. Why paying $160 per night....

Great Location, Accommodating Staff (esp. Lynn)

My wife and I stayed at the Nassau Inn for a friend's wedding in June, 2005. The wedding reception was also in one of the rooms at the Inn.

The room we stayed in was a bit small, but sufficient for our stay. At the time, my wife was 7 months pregnant and she really needed to be comfortable (I do my best). Because of this, we needed the room VERY cool and the air conditioning unit in our room wouldn't suffice. Although they were completely booked for the night, the manager Lynn Woods managed to not only send up a maintenance person immediately, but she was then able to accommodate us and give us another room within 15 minutes. We quickly re-packed and switched rooms. The new room was much better. (I know this may be perceived as an inconvenience, we were very happy to be accommodated).

The room in which the wedding was held was perfect. To be honest, it's the first wedding I think I've ever actually enjoyed. The period detail was very welcoming and the history of the building was very interesting.

The location of this Inn couldn't be more ideal to see Princeton and the outlying areas. They say, "Location, location, location" -- well you could add a 4th "location" for this building.

The staff we encountered were very helpful. I'd like to specifically mention Lynn Woods, a lovely girl who accommodated our endless requests. Traveling with a pregnant woman requires some special needs and Lynn always managed to squeeze us into her busy schedule and handle our requests, all the while wearing a glowing smile. She made our stay that much more pleasant.

The rates for the rooms here apparently vary widely. We got a good rate through AAA, but sometimes you can do better with the online reservation websites. It helps to shop around.

I recommend if you stay at the Nassau Inn, try to plan your trip around Lynn's schedule! I know we will.

s overpriced

I stayed here for New Years Eve. Very nice rooms and bathrooms were fine, but very noisy due to a wedding. Also, the maids tried to get in at 8AM on New Years Day! We weren't happy about that. Very nice breakfast downstairs and friendly staff. We were overall satisfied with the trip, especially b/c of location.

Top Local Tips for Princeton

great van service The Airporter Shuttle was a great van to use for getting to/from Newark Airport to Princeton. Make reservations ahead of time. Service door to door. It also goes from JFK to Newark Airport. They were friendly, on time, convenient, and about $27 per person one way. Our flight to Newark was cancelled at the last minute and we had to fly into Philly. The Airporter sent a private car for us there and drove us right to the Nassau Inn, of course at more expense. But the anxiety of getting to Princeton was taken away since I did not know the train system and it was late at night. The driver was wonderful.

good food Try a B&B (e.g. Peakock Inn) or, if you have a car, the Hyatt on route 1. Just stay away from the Nassau Inn. Good food: Bent Spoon Ice Cream, Witherspoon Bread Company, Nassau Fish Market (great cheap sandwiches for lunch), Comte's Pizza (further down witherspoon), The Ferry House.

STAY THE HYATT REGENCY!! The hyatt is just 7 minutes from "downtown" princeton, it is a nicer, CLEANER, up to date, place..and their shower's have hot water! It is much cheaper too!
