It has an undeserved bad rep -- if you're going to New York, stay there. The Jersey City waterfront is safe and beautiful, and you really maximize your value for money by staying there when visiting New York City.
Better Dining and Bar Opportunities in Hoboken Take advantage of the Light Rail Train directly behind the hotel to go to Hoboken's Business district on Washington Street for eating out or entertainment. There are a lot of choices between 1st and 8th Street from ice cream to gourmet meals. Get on the train that says Hoboken rather than Tonelle Ave., though. They have a lot more restaurant and bar choices than Jersey City. You can buy your ticket right there at the train stop, but be very certain to stamp your ticfket in the validator slot on the side of the ticket machine before you board. They are pretty diligent about checking that you did it when you get off the trains and there is a $125 fine if you forget!!! They are pretty hard-nosed about "I didn't know about it excuses", too. You won't always get caught, but they check often enough that you're better off not forgetting that detail. The ticket machine takes coins or credit cards.
you can't get lost following hotel-provided directions when you get to the part about "follow the road to the Holland Tunnel" be aware that (turning right at) Marin is just a few feet from the entrance to the tunnel...don't be afraid to keep on going until you're staring the tunnel entrance in the face! (Your left onto) Second Street is just after passing the Chili's on the right. Candlewood's entrance is tucked behind the iron fence, behind the Portofino.
