We were treated very rudely by the staff they donot want to answer simple questions and give directions in you Hotel. We asked where the buffet was and were told over there which made no sense to first time guests. The buffet is the worst one we have ever been to the steaks are paper thin and very hard to chew it was like leather and that was med rare! We needed a car rental and were told to contact the airport, you have a car rental in you Hotel which we found by ourselves. Do your front desk people not know about the car rental???? The bowling assocation will be in Reno in March of 2007 and we have several people bowling in that we will not be recommending your hotel to any of these people and we will not be staying there again Whenever someone asked our opinion of where to stay your hotel will not be suggested

I was there with my two boys 7and 11yrs . we enjoyed the pool and the live band. the rate was great 39.00 through travelworm room was clean and neat and the location was a short walk to circus circus. I will stay there again.

My husband was a guest at this hotel last week. When our daughter became ill at college and had to be taken to the ER, I called to leave a message in my husband's room. Little did he know that he had to pay a $50 deposit to activate his phone to even RECEIVE messages!!! I feel that the person answering at the desk should have notified me that he would NOT get my emergency message. I call this VERY poor service!!!!

Ridiculously cheap for large rooms with a view

Booked on the day on the net, managed to get a room on the top floor (15) which was very spacious and comfortable for the same price as our floor number. Breakfast cost more than the room!! Casinos a casino, the room was far removed from it and a nice peaceful break from the madness below.

Every year my husband and I have to travel to the Reno/Sparks area due to our business. Because we usually have to stay about 5 days we want to find a good deal. (Since we are repeat customers we receive email and snail mail deals as good as 12.00 per night sun-thurs & 19.00-29.00 per night on weekends) The Sands has always been our choice because it is always clean, the rooms are huge, the bathrooms are large and the restaurants are good. The decor reminds me of 70's-80's type but it is always clean and housekeeping is very good. The ONLY complaint we have is no ventilation in the bathrooms. The pool is nice for an older one, there is a bar next to the pool. It's an outdoor pool with a nearby hottub. We tend to walk the 4 or so blocks down to Virginia Street and spend most of our time at the Silver Legacy/Eldorado/Circus Circus mecca. We've stayed there with our children and by ourselves and have never been disappointed. On several occassions we've been given a free upgraded and even given a free night here and there.

Have stayed here the last 3 years for every time I'm in reno(3-4 times a year) you can't beat their deals, nice friendly staff and the best blackjack tables in Reno (by far) but DO NOT play their slots never ever, ever seen a jackpot payout, if you like a fancy casino stay somewhere else if you like a home feeling casino stay here, I recommend this place to anyone, but if you're like Donald Trump maybee you shouldn't come to Reno.

Stayed in room with king bed on the 15th floor. Good size room. Good view. Poor lighting. Room was clean, though bedspread had seem some years. Room a little too colorful. Hotel is older but renovated. Must pass through smoky casino to get to room. Few amenities. Fifty cents to make any phone call outside of hotel, including toll free calls. Room has door to adjoining room and you can hear a fair amount from the other room.

i usually make a trip once a year, the last couple of times i've stayed at the SANDS. i like the location just a block or two west of downtown. they have both open lots and parking garages , the rooms are nice and the rates are even nicer. the only drawback is the casino is kind of smokey. reno is a great place to do a lot of walking, downtown and also up and down the river. i especially like the national car mueseum.[what's left of the harrah's collection] you are also close to lake tahoe and truckee, ca.

I have been to Reno many times and the Sands is by far the best deal.
It is not quite as fancy as the Silver Legecy but much more for the price. The Sands has a gym and jacuzzie on the top floor and a big outdoor pool with a bar which is free to all hotel guests. The Silver Legecy charges 10 dollars per person for there pool and gym. The Sands has the largest standard room in downtown. Mels diner is great and Tony Roma's is first class. Check out the Internet room specials on there web site. The main line of the union pacific railroad does run right next to the place but it did not bother me.

I have been to the Sands several times over the past few years and I keep coming back. The value is terrific and everything from the staff, rooms, casino and dining variety are always great. I love their casino..cozy, friendly and a great place to play. The Sands does not have that "indifferent" feel that I get at other "swankier" casinos and the friendly vibe is the reason. I will keep coming back!

Before I visited Reno, Nv. I came here & read all the reviews on their Hotels. After reading all the reviews I decided to stay at the Sands. What impressed me most were the rooms were nicey done, spacious, very clean and well worth the price. The A/C unit froze so I called to have it looked at & someone from maintence was there in less than 5 minutes & fixed it in less.If you are a light sleeper you should bring a good set of ear plugs. The hotel is right next to train tracks and they do run all hours of the night and blow their whistles prior to crossing any intersection BUT check out a map & you'll see the tracks run right through downtown, which is where most all of the casinos are, so I would imagine this situation exists for pretty much everyone.I paid $19/night & with the free airport shuttle,I don't think I could find a better value anywhere in Reno.For my money, I will be back!

The Sands has always treated me well...I have stayed there numerous times since I retired...the rooms (above Mels Diner, overlooking the city), are very large, clean and away from the RR tracks, which can be noisy.....The slots pay as well as any other casino and maybe better...check-in is always fast and pleasant and willing to meet special requests....their slot club is great, I was given 10 bucks of match play for two days...they have a great little lounge act and, in the summer, a good pool....reasonable room rates...would recommend the Sands.

Top Local Tips for Reno

Brews Brothers.......... Hey Brews Brother is a popular place I know but I just had a terrible meal there. Stay away from their salads. The Chinese Chicken salad used to be a hit, now it stinks. The only thing worse then the salad was the service. Stood in line for 45 minutes for this? Thanks Goodness for the beer!

MEL'S DINER OUR TRIP TO RENO WAS 1 OF THE GREATEST! MEL'S DINER HAS THE BEST FOOD AND THE SETTING WAS SO COMFORTABLE! THE BEST WAITRESS THERE IS LAURA SO FOLK IF YOUR THERE VISITING ASK FOR HER SHE'LL MAKE YOU FEEL SO WELCOME!!!!!!!!

Best Coffeehouse Ever Check out Dreamers Coffee and Art at the Riverwalk and Virginia Street for great beverages, awesome breakfast sandwiches and free Internet access with a view of the river to die for
