And not necessarily for the better. The "NEW" Tuscany Tower is where we stayed for recent Anniversary weekend. Our VIP host delayed entry into the "special room" reserved for us, even though other rooms were ready. Our "special room" was right by the ice machine and the 1st door from the elevator so we could hear everyone everyone that walked by. Nice flat screen TV but the remote didn't work. When I finally got the TV on I wanted to watch Keno results in my room but that channel wasn't working. The sink stopper was broken - in the closed position. VIP services was a horrible experience, it felt more like a funeral home; we wish we had checked in with everyone else. After many stays over the years we will not stay there again. Nicer people and better luck at Harrah's Downtown and the Atlantis.

My partner and I stayed in a spa room in early December 2005. The check in staff and room service were friendly. Check out was a bit of a hassle getting a hotel bill but it could have been an anomoly. Most of our stays there have been pleasant.

We stayed on Sept 19, 20, and 21, 2005. Wasn't awful but not up to expections and will not stay there again. The room they gave us was already occupied by a single, young lady who was very surprised when we came walking in on her in the room. When asked how that could possibly happen, management shrugged it off as a computer glitch and gave us a different room.
Coffee shop waitress got confused when I asked for a glass of water. Had to ask twice and the water she brought looked "used" and had no ice. When we asked for ice she removed the water and brought back a glass with just ice.
Buffet had a great selection and variety but all of the meat was too tough to chew and everything except desert was blah. Had the rest of our meals elsewhere.
Did get them for $1100 on a penny slot so don't feel too bad.
Ok once we got in

I stayed at Peppermill in 2003. At that time we booked a number of rooms and were shoved out into the annex for the first night because of supposed over booking. We were then brought back into the main hotel for the remainder of our stay. We booked a number of rooms there again in March 05 and the same thing happened. This time we spent a fair amount of time at the front desk negotiating and finally they realized it didn't make sense to move us around later the next day as we would not be back to the hotel till late in the evening so we were upgraded and stayed there for the duration. This appears to be standard procedure watching the poor front desk girls try this story on every guest when they arrive. We have a convention there again in 07 and I am not sure whether we will break away form the convention hotel to stay there as I don't want to have a fight when I bring a number of my clients to the hotel for the night. Rooms were great when we finally got in.

Great Service

from A TripAdvisor Member
My Husband & I went up to Reno in early January as a late Christimas present to ourselves. When I called in, I was recognized as a repeat guest and upgraded from a grand suite to a luxury suite. What a nice suprise. Although the colors in the room are on the dark side, the room was clean and had spectacular views (corner location). Staff was very responsive, gambling was great, and the coffee shop was awesome. Thanks fora great weekend. We will be back very soon!

Husband and I needed a night away.Went superbowl weekend, place was packed valet was a joke. Spent 180 for spa suite and jacuzzi didn't work. No I'm sorry what can we do for you. One person said no availlable rooms to move us. I had to go down stairs in person. What a joke. Most top notch hotels comp or offer some sort of compensation.
Not the Peppernill. The food was very good, gaming not bad either. But over all not worth the money.

No Room at the Inn

from DorothyofKansas
Peppermill overbooked and bumped us from our rooms. My Dad who lives in Reno and belongs to their special "club" reserved it on his credit card. Our plane was delayed and we called at 3:30 p.m. to tell them to hold our room and they said they would. After waiting in line for 2 hours watching angry people being bumped from their rooms we found out we too had been bumped! We watched as each customer went up and the clerks pretended to try to find their room even though the clerks knew there were no more rooms. There were a lot of angry people...including myself. I'm a Reno native but I now understand why so many Kansans prefer Vegas.

One of the best in Reno!

from NorcalTraveler
My wife and I just returned from our one night stay at the Peppermill, and despite some other bad reviews, we were very pleased. I had stayed there a couple times before several years ago and liked it then as well. But the J.A. Nugget had lured me away with there superior comp program. The room was very nice and I got an excellant Thurs. night rate. The Buffet lived up to it's reputation and we were very pleased. If you can get in for the early-bird you will save quit a bit of money. The breakfast at the coffee shop was at best tasteless. Overall I was very pleased and will probably go back, I just wish the rewards card was set up better. They should copy the Nuggets system, it is by far the best in Reno. P.S. , if your wife doesn't enjoy gambling as much as you, the Peppermill is very close to many of the major shopping areas in Reno.

Totally Awesome Resort

from LoandSpenMom
My husband and I and another couple stayed at the Peppermill from 10-12 through 10-15-03. I have to admit I was a little worried after I booked this resort and read some of the reviews but am relieved to report that we had the time of our lives! I had booked the room on line and at the time there were no spa suites available. I called the hotel directly to try to "upgrade" and was rather rudely told they "couldn't do that" because I bought my package through American Airlines (a wholesaler for their hotel) and I would have to wait until we checked in. This was a present to my husband for his 40th birthday so I wanted everything to be perfect. When we checked in (early, by the way), I was told they had no "spa suites" available but they had an "imperial suite" available for an extra $50 a night. It was worth every penny!! 180-degree view of downtown Reno and the Sierra Nevada mountains. We were in awe just of the view, let alone the awesome room! Beautiful spa tub in the middle of the room. Almost 600 sq feet of space! We were in heaven! The steam shower was an added bonus in this desert haven. We are from Michigan and used to some humidity so static was killing us. The steam shower got a lot of use from us!! Anyway, back to the "bad" reviews from previously. Everyone, from the front desk staff to the housekeepers to the restaurant workers were very pleasant with genuine smiles on their faces. They looked very happy to be there and helping their customers. Never once did I encounter any sourpusses or anything of that nature. The room had absolutely nothing wrong with it...not worn or outdated by any means. It was very comfortable, right down to the beds. Very well cleaned also, and I'm a stickler for cleanliness. I sit on the toilet and look for dirty floors in all hotels I stay at (yuck). I found nothing of the sort here. All-in-all, a very pleasant and enjoyable stay at the Peppermill. The casino was a little smoky for my taste (along with a little overwhelming with all of the neon) but a lot of fun and we spent a lot of time gambling there. Only went to a few other hotel/casinos in town and nothing seemed to compare to the Peppermill. I would MOST DEFINITELY stay there again...and we traveled a long way. Any questions, you can e-mail me and I will try my best to answer.

Not Pleased

My husband and I are frequent guests at the Peppermill mainly because we both enjoy gambling and always have a lot of comps. Recently we have been very disappointed in the Peppermill. The rooms are getting very dated. They are tacky and shabby and definitely need to be remodled.
The Casino in general is tacky with a lot of neon lights, mirrored walls and ceilings and eye popping colors. It can be very confusing for the first timer and we often see people wandering and lost. The main area of complaint for us is how the food has gone downhill. It used to be one of the best places to eat, but they have cut their quality and service. It is hard to eat a hot meal in their buffet because most of the tables are so far from the food line. By the time you get back to your table everything on your plate is cold, if it was even hot to begin with which is doubtful. We have eaten at their Italian restaurant called Romanza and the food was very mediocre. The Steak House is OK, but nothing like it used to be. Overall, this Casino is going downhill and needs some better management and decision making. We are changing our hotel of choice to one of the other Casinos in the area.

Great stay

from A TripAdvisor Member
This was our (me and my parents) first visit to the Peppermill. After reading some of the recent reviews I was apprehensive. We arrived at the hotel at 11 am and were able to check into a room. The room was a nice size and clean. It was done in a mauve?/black art deco decor which is not my style but I guess pretty if that's what you like. Although we were only 2 doors from the elevator we never heard any noise from them or people walking down the hallway. We stayed 4 nights and, unexpectedly, got all 4 nights comped as well as the breakfast and dinner buffets. It's easy to get comps here compared to the hotels in Vegas. Parking is free. You can take the bus from in front of the hotel to downtown for $1.50 There's a nice lake park less than 10 minutes walk from the hotel which made a nice place to walk every morning - even at 6 am there were plenty of others walking!! The casino is probably the ugliest one I've ever been in - way to gaudy. Found the staff to be very pleasant and helpful. If we ever return to Reno would definitely stay here.

t repeat the experience!

My husband and I eagerly anticipated our 2 night/3 day stay at the Peppermill for my birthday celebration reserved for July 25-27, 2003.
Most of the reviews for this hotel prior to April of this year were quite positive.

The first thing we noticed upon our arrival is that the location of this hotel is quite far from downtown Reno where most of the action is.
You must have a car to travel around comfortably to the other casinos, city sites, off-site restaurants, etc.

We proceeded to check-in at the reception desk. All went fairly smoothly, although the staff at the desk were rude and there was quite a wait to check-in.

Up to our room on the 11th floor. We booked a tower room as these are supposed to be decent and we paid a pretty price. It was absolutely ghastly! Old, worn and in desperate need of a complete renovation! Dark blue, velour type material everywhere! It was dark and depressing. The bathroom was hideous. Extremely old, toilet not functioning properly, faucet in tub continuously dripped, etc. They need to shut this place down and do a proper remodel or seriously change the cost of a room per night.

We enjoyed the casino, restaurants and the casino staff were great! The restaurant staff weren't too friendly. The comps were terrible. We spent a considerably amount of money gambling for 3 straight days and they comped as $9.00 for the coffee shop. We gambled at the El Dorado for an hour and a half and they comped approximately the same amount.

Overall, a disappointing stay, but live and learn. We'll be back to Reno for more gambling, but will definitely stay elsewhere from now on!

Couldn't even check in because they screwed up our reservations and then lied on top of it but still charged my credit card all the same and now won't refund the money! Have spoken to others who had the same problem. Also, the hotel is way out of the regular casino area. Staff unfreindly and rude, etc.

July 29, 2003 My husband and I celebrated our third year anniversary at the Peppermill in Reno. Being somewhat newly married, without alot of money, and very little time away from work and responsibilities we decided on a room at the Peppermill for the evening. We went to our room to drop off our bag and walked over to the Casino to play a bit and then had a great dinner at the Island buffet. Then went back to our room. What a huge disappointment! While in the room we discovered a used bar of soap left from the previous guest, and a pair of womens panties in the light fixture in the bathroom. Also we found ants in the bed!We called the front desk to complain and was told by a woman that she had just came on duty and to try house keeping. She was a bit rude. I told her that I would speak to a manager in the morning upon checking out. The next morning at check out my husband and I explained our findings to the clerk. She walked off, came back, sighed and curtly said, " I can take twenty dollars off the room".My husband and I are extremely disappointed and do not see another stay at the PEPPERMILL in our future.Dan and Cecelia Zinn Susanville, CA.

Top Local Tips for Reno

S. Virginia Street Stay on S. Virginia street and you can hit all the stores you may need within a few miles of the Peppermill. Just go south and the Wal-mart, Sears, Safeway, Macys, and just about any restaurant you may know or need is there.

Ask for the casino rate Always call to see if you can get a better deal with the hotel. I have a players card and ended up getting a casino rate for the room. Ask to stay in the newer tower (Tuscany Tower).

So So Avoid the Peppermill or loose your short, and pants
