Every time we stay at the Eldorado, we are always happy. The prices are great and the service is even better. If you can afford it, stay in one of their suites, you will be happy that you did.

Best for romance

The variety of rooms with bars and in room Jacuzzis make this our favourite place for romantic getaways. The prices are reasonable and the place is absolutely immaculate. El Dorado has a fine casino and top restaurants. Room service selection is the best. It is our absolute favourite place to spend our commitment anniversary weekend each year. For a quick trip they have basic rooms that are clean and comfortable.

Not what a we thought it would be.

I was a little surprised @ the size of the room. It was not what we thought, by the pictures on the Net. It was an old room.
On the good side, it was close to everything. We didn't complain, as we figured the cheapest rate, got the cheap room. All in all, it was o.k.

A good place to stay-Close to Bowling Stadium

In town 1st week of April. Overall, clean room, great buffet, great prime rib restaurant, below-average 24hr cafe, and Roxy's-drinking after bowling was fun. Gambling is not that great there, so we wandered elsewhere.

I asked for 2 queens, and when I got there, it looks TO ME, like 2 doubles. Front desk told me, no, those are queens-I'll show you doubles. Oh well, they make beds small there I guess, and I'm not that big.

Shuttle to bowling tournaments. Should say bowling stadium-only place shuttle would go. Shuttle was late, and not friendly. 2 other tournaments in town besides stadium. Circus Circus & Golden Phoenix will shuttle to other sites. Complained to front desk, and took care of my party.

May or may not stay at El Dorado again. It was ok for the money. Great convenience to be close to everything.

A very good stay at a very good price

I just returned from a four day stay at the Eldorado, my annual Mother's Day jaunt with two girlfriends, no kids and no husbands. I am so pleased to be able to give a positive review as I was kind of apprehensive after reading such negative comments by others, and so little else to go on. We bought a package trip with Alaska Airlines, flying from Seattle and staying Sunday through Thursday. The cost for all three of us was about $650 US including airfare. Alaska also does spring time promotions that give 10% of all packages. Check-in at the Eldorado was a breeze. I asked if there was an upgraded room available and we were immediately offered a deluxe room on the 6th floor in the Skyline Tower. Excellent location for this large room, tucked into a quiet corner close to the elevators, ice and pop machines and overlooking the pool. We had two comfortable queen beds, a sofa and small table and chairs. Ventilation was really good, no stinky smoke smell and the fans were pretty quiet. We also liked that the sink and vanity area was outside of the bathroom. The TV was a little small for the room size but we weren't really hanging around there too much. We did hear some trains during the night, but only because we were coming in late and not because they woke us up. We had great dinners and good service at the Strada and the Grill restaurants, and the Tivoli Gardens' breakfasts and late night snacks were pretty good too. We bought a dinner show package for the Broadway revue for about $45 each. A few years ago we saw the "Spirit of the Dance", Vegas style Celtic dance production that was pretty dreadful, but that was all that was showing. Now the shows are on alternating nights so you get a choice. The theatre has really good sightlines and super comfortable seats. The casino was fine, we didn't play there all the time but didn't find anything to complain about. And when the weather is bad you can walk through to the Silver Legacy and to Circus Circus. The hotel location is great - a few blocks from the Truckee River walkway; strolling along there (or power walking if you want a good workout) is a great way to get away from the gambling for a while. For really tasty and inexpensive Chinese food, try the China Diner which is close to the railway track and on the way to the river (about a block from the old Comstock). I would definitely stay at the Eldorado again for the nice room, good service, and good location.

A few problems, but would stay again

Found a great deal for a 2-night monday-wednesday stay on their website: $32.50 per night for what is basically a 3.5-4 star hotel. At check in, the desk clerk informed us that it would be about a 45 minute wait for our keys because the room was not yet ready (Yes, we were there after the 3pm check-in time). I asked if she could verify that it would take that long and she then put us on the 15th floor immediately.
I'd never experienced such a thing. Once in the room, we were pleased with the tasteful and high-quality feel. But upon entering the bathroom, I noticed a dozen or so sprigs of black hair on the floor.
Four employees later and 45 minutes later, we had $30 taken off the bill. Whatever. Down on the mezzanine level, The Roxy is an excellent bar - perhaps the best hotel bar in Reno - and features $3.25 martinis during happy hour (4:30-6). I'd stay there again.

Loved the El Dorado

Stayed at the El Dorado for two nights and the experience was more than positive. The check-in was great and we upgraded on-line to a suite.
The suite was wonderful. All hotel personnel were courteous and most helpful.

First Class

This was the first time I stayed at the Eldorado. I booked our room directly on their website and got an excellent rate. I noticed that they had a best rate guarantee, so we didn't have to spend a lot of time comparison shopping, which was nice. The hotel was absolutely first class. It had all of the amenities of a mega-resort and the intimate atmosphere of a botique hotel. They had a suite special on their website that was a great deal. I highly reccomend staying there!

El Dorado is top notch all around!

Stayed here during President's weekend, 2004. We actually arrived Sunday evening and stayed one night. First of all, I was surprised that they even took my reservation online. I reserved about 4 days out.
Everywhere else was booked for the weekend. Second of all, I was disappointed that they gave our room away, but then happy that they upgraded us to a spa suite with a corner view for the same price! And it was close to the elevator!

We were also treated well not only by the hotel staff, but also by the table staff in the gaming area. We didn't encounter anyone from the valet and reception staff, to the wait staff, to the gaming staff that had treated us poorly. With the exception of the steakhouse that took our reservation but closed before we even got there.

All in all, we had a great time and will definitely be staying there again. We joined their gaming club, so we'll see if anything good comes out of that.

Special week special hotel

Every year my mom and I come to Reno for a week to celebrate mothers day and in 2003 we stayed at the El Dorado...I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed all the extras they offered and what a great time we had. The safes in the rooms are an excellent idea, and also the free upgrades for the asking if available. From now on its the El Dorado all the way....plus the shows are terrific.....

I made reservations for a tower room with 2 queen size beds, for what I thought was a mistake, $14.50 + tax for 1 night. When I showed up on Wednesday, March 3, 2004, I was told that I was being upgraded to a "spa suite",but that it only had 1 king size bed. I was traveling with a buddy of mine, and definitely needed seperate beds. The front desk said that they would bring up a roll-away bed if I wished to take the suite, or that I could still take the tower room if I wanted. I took the suite, and was simply amazed at the size of it! The 2 room suite had a extra large sitting area,(full size bar, 3 TV sets, 6 seat dining table,and 2 sofas ,bathroom) and a seperate sleeping area(king size bed, 2 person whirlpool tub, huge steamer shower, hide-away TV set, seperate bathroom).The roll-away bed was delivered before were able to open our suitcases. Had dinner @ the main resturant,(good food & excellant service).Went to the casino, and was given a helpfull beginners lesson on playing the "craps" table. Had a great time, and would highly recommend this hotel.

Cheap, but you get what you pay for.

We got a good deal on a Ski Package which included 2 days of skiing and 2 nights accomodation and a shuttle to and from the slopes for $195 each. The deal was good enough that I may actually doing it again if I was only going with a couple of people, but if I was going with a larger group I would definitely split the money for a ski cabin.

The plus side was the deal was cheap. Considering that ski passes cost about $50-$60 nowadays, we were essentially getting the room for $40 a night per person. The minus side is that you do kind of get what you pay for. The ventilation system was bad, I didn't find the staff that helpful and while the room was basically clean, it felt like it was falling apart.

The casino itself was ok (I thought it was a little better than Harrah's across the street, but I didn't see the rooms at Harrah's) and it is centrally located on the Reno strip. The restaurants in the hotel were pretty dire (bad food, substandard service) but I don't know how they compared to other hotels in the area.

Great Place

We have stayed at a lot places in Reno & Sparks but, I really like the El Dorado Hotel. We always get the room we ask for which is right next to the elavator but the room is quiet large and clean. The room has a safe in it to put your cash and jewls., there is also a mini bar in there. The room is laged enough for a wheelchair to get around anywhere you want to go in the room. The Casino is very "TIGHT". and we never gamble there. The food is pretty good at all the placed to eat at at the hotel. The personnel is friendly and helpful. All in all the El Dorado Hotel is a great place to stay but, if you want to gambel go some where else.

Top Local Tips for Reno

Take a day trip to Tahoe If possible rent a car and take a day trip to Lake Tahoe. It's about an hour drive and beautiful!

Automotive Museum The National Automobile Museum in Reno (just a few blocks from the Eldorado Hotel) is outstanding. I went thinking I would spend an hour or so there and ended up staying for five hours! Very interesting with an incredible collection of classic cars.

Coin slots Fitzgerald's Casino still has plenty of slots that take coins so if you are an old fashioned gambler like me, you'll love it there. It's a bit smoky but if you can get past that, it's really fun to drop those nickels and quarters in and hear them drop when you win something.
