After reading his entire review it appears the bad attitude came mainly because of losing in the casino and not being able to eat buffet food. Also, as one who has stayed at the GN numerous times knows, only a very cheap person would self-park as valet is very convenient and fast and most of all FREE, except for the obligatory buck tip. The "courtyard view" he complained about is actually better than most other casinos, including Las Vegas, as the area is very nicely landscaped. For $20 more, he could have had a wide view of the Colorado River. This would have made the total room cost to be about $49 as rooms can nearly always be had there at $29/nt. Trust me, these are the best $29 rooms anywhere in Nevada for sure. They are clean, beds are comfortable and they have been updated with Golden Nugget-Las Vegas furnishings in the past year since new ownership took over. The best part about the GN is that it is small, so you can get anywhere on the property or in and out very quickly. Checkin-checkout could not be easier as there have never been more than two people in line that I've seen. Much better hotel than Flamingo or Harrah's.

SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO ELSEWHERE, because this hotel was not worth the price compared with the other casino/hotels in Laughlin!
We chose the Golden Nugget because it claimed to be the "only 4 star hotel in Laughlin", and thought that our stay would be more comfortable and better service than the other properties. What a laugh!!
The carpeting in the room was badly worn, with large stains all over (I took photos of this as proof!!). The "courtyard view" we had was overlooking another building just a few feet away, and was a lousy view. The floors were very thin, you could hear yourself walking on the floor. The pool claimed to be heated but was ice cold, despite very favorable swimming weather. The buffet was closed much of the time, so we had to eat elsewhere, and this involved using the inconvenient parking garage each time (most other Laughlin properties have plenty of outside parking).
But most annoying of all was the ARROGANT AND UNPROFESSINAL ATTITUDE OF THE FRONT DESK MANAGER, Steve. He smirked at me rather than helping me with a small concern I had. I was very upset with the way he treated me. His supervisor apologized for him, and stated that he was reprimanded, but judging from the lack of satisfaction she provided, I don't think anything will change.
The casino was a disappointment, too. It had very low ceilings, smokey, dark, and not the newest machines. The machines were VERY TIGHT and my mom and I blew through $400 in a very short time, which was not fun. We tried everything from Dollar to Penny Machines and it was all the same. They sucked us dry.
We've stayed at the Colorado Belle previously and the rooms are just a little less fancy, but almost half the price and cleaner. We spent most of our trip at the Belle, because it was a lot more fun than the Golden Nugget. At least you have some fun playing since the machines pay off.
Next time, it will be the Colorado Belle or even the Flamingo, at hald the price of the Nugget. Believe me, the Golden Nugget is not worth the extra money you pay to stay there.

Drove from L.A. to the GRAND CANYON (a must see) and slept a night in the Golden Nugget.

For this low price it is perfect!

The room was nicly decorated and had everything you want! Casino and restaurants also available, almost like in Vegas!

We had a great night in the middle of nowhere!

A Great Stay at the Nugget

My family and I went to the Golden Nugget Laughlin as a little expirimental sidetrip from a longer stay in Vegas. Being Angelenos, we heard of Laughlin as a seedy footnote to Vegas. After a strenous hotel-picking experience, we chose to spend the night at the Nugget. After peeking in on our nice hotel room, we headed through the beautiful, cool atrium and the attractive casino, down to the Deck restaraunt on the Colorado River. Just in time for Happy Hour, we sat and watched the Colorado. The service on the Deck (and all Golden Nugget restaraunts) was friendly and efficient. The BBQ wings were superb, the misters were on, and the live music was great. Then we headed to the attractive pool, overlooking the river. The water was just right and the giant hot tub was endlessly refreshing. After an excellent dinner at The Buffet, (try the desserts and lasagna) a walk on the cute Riverwalk, the air conditioned room was heaven. The beds were comfy and the pillows were plenty. A delicious breakfast at the River Cafe (Omlettes are great!) refreshed us for a day at the pool. Again the pool was refreshing in the 105 degree heat. We took a quick sojourn to the Deli, for a good Hot Dog (get the Player's Special), and one last hurrah at the pool, and we were out. Overall, the Golden Nugget Laughlin was one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in and easily out charmes (and is better than) any Strip hotel. Viva Laughlin!

Golden Nugget is the best

We stayed at the Golden Nugget and had an excellent experience. The staff are very attentive and quick to respond to requests. Our room was very clean with nice furnishings. Food is excellent. Excellent staff at the at the tables. If you want to stay where you are treated like your busisness counts stay at the Golden Nugget.

I have stayed at various hotels in Laughlin since before the hi-rise hotels were built. The Nugget is my favorite.
The buffet is very good, their bread pudding is to die for, and they even will give you the receipe upon request. As for the other major reason I love the Nugget, the SLOTS. They have all the gimmicky machines as well as the older ones. Their slot club almost allows you to stay free, including food, beverages and other prizes. Their machines readily accept old and new currency, unlike many at other casinos who have not switched their currency sensors to the new bills. The attendents don't take long to arrive for any reason. The beverage girls are also regular in their routes past the machines.(roughly, about every 20 minutes). I have no interest in going to another hotel.

Go anywhere else but here!

This is one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. Warning: The air conditioning barely works in the hotel rooms!! Be prepared for a stuffy room. The faucets in the bathrooms are leaky too. When we visited last weekend 7/30 and 7/31, the coke machine was out of order in our corridor and so was the ice machine. Nothing seems to be in working order. The staff is unfriendly and seem disgruntled most of the time. Another warning: The slot machines do not pay out much, especially the Keno ones. They're the worst. The buffet was terrible and the River Cafe too. The staff was very unfriendly. Do yourself a favor and go to any other hotel. We spent a day in the River Palms and noticed a big difference in attitude there!

Disappointing

I chose the Golden Nugget for a 4 day get away and made reservations over a month in advance.
It had the highest rating on the reviews of Lauglin.
Anyway we drove over six hours and arrived tired
and wanting to rest. That was not to happen! We
arrived at around 3 PM and were not allowed to
check into our room until around four thirty. Needless to
say I was angry at having to sit in the lobby when
check in time is 3PM. She said the rooms were not
clean yet. The maids go home at 4:30 so wouldn't
you think the rooms would be clean and ready for guests by than? The last day of our stay we were
out of our room all day on a boat tour and returned
only to find our room undone and the maid had
gone home. I mean at the hotel prices today you
do expect maid service daily. The front desk did
not seem overly caring that we were left sitting all
that time upon check-in and you would think they
would make it up to you in the way of a dinner comp or etc. but no way. I asked a security guard
if he would call a manager; the manager was out
of town and the fill in person never even came to
listen to our problem. Also we encountered on most
days we were there only one of the hotel's restaurants was open. Apparently the Deck and
Janes Grill, and buffet if there was one only opened
on certain days as we were never able to eat at the Buffet or other two restaurants. We were not the only guests sitting in the Lobby waiting., and there was alot of griping going on. Oh we were also left on the curb in the hot sun for 20 minutes waiting for bellman. This hotel is seriously understaffed or ill managed.

Golden Nugget Laughlin Simply the Best!!

This was our second trip to Laughlin and again the Golden Nugget tops our list for a great place to stay. We traveled mid May. Our room had a riverview, which we enjoyed very much. Two queen beds, well appointed and very clean. Maid service was friendly and excellent. We play slots and had some success there, but noticed several people winning some nice jackpots. We really like to gamble at the Colorado Belle and they also have good sit down restaurants at the Belle. Visited several other casinos in the area. Enjoyed the antique slot machine display at the Riverside but it was quite crowded and no luck there. The Flamingo is open and airy but not much luck at gambling. Highly recommend the GN for a great stay!!!

GN Laughlin is the Best!

This was our 3rd stay at the Golden Nugget and the rooms just keep getting better and better. Only paid $29.00 for a huge room (courtyard veiw which is quite nice), very tastefully decorated with two large chairs, table, writing desk, clock radio and King Bed with a padded headboard (nice for watching TV in bed), coffee maker, hair dryer and clean windows that actually open completely. The room and bath were immaculate. The hotel lobby and corridors have flower fragrence which gives you a real tropical feel inline with the tropical motiff of the hotel and casino with it's waterfalls and beautiful flowers and plants. Food in the cafe is very good and the restaurant staff was in top form, cracking jokes and having a good time while working. We've stayed at nearly all the other hotels in town and the Golden Nugget will always be our first choice.

Top Local Tips for Laughlin

Budget Friendly Location Laughlin is a budget friendly gambling location. It feels safe and is pleasant enough. It has a slow pace that's perfect for small town seniors who would be overwhelmed by the frenzied pace of Vegas. If you understand that your choices in Laughlin are limited, it's a pleasant enough place to stay. However, I much prefer Vegas. I like the people watching, the unlimited choices in shows, casinos and restaurants. Viva Las Vegas!!

Oatman If you are traveling between Laughlin and Las Vegas, you might want to take the long route and go through Oatman. It is an old mining town, now basically a tourist trap. The shops there pretty much specialize in tourist junk. The place keeps limited hours - by 3 in the afternoon, stores were closing, and we could not find anyplace to eat. The big draw is feral donkeys who wander the street, looking for carrots from the tourists. You can buy the carrots at many of the shops. Oatman is not worth going significantly out of your way or taking an entire day out of your trip, but if you are in the general area of Kingman anyway, it is an amusing diversion.

Airport Worries Be advised that the airport is the size of a shoe box, and you need to get there for checkout 2 hours before hand. Seriously. We were lucky enough to have Limo service to and from the hotel which was nice. This is not a fast paced town by any means. So if it's craziness and wild times forget it. Just go relax have some cocktails, meet interesting people and Enjoy!
