Historical Traveller Reviews of Westin Casuarina Hotel and Spa Las Vegas
Better than the Mega-Resorts.
from A TripAdvisor Member
When we needed a room of Feb. 28 04 we got one from the Westin. It was far better than I expected. The check in was fast and easy. I like the approximatley to the strip. We will be back to this Westin. It is better than those Mega-Resorts on the strip.
Enjoy the Quiet Side of Vegas - Long but accurate!
We were able to book a 5 Day 4 Night stay Jan 22-Jan.27 2004 online The entire package w/ airfare for my wife and was $690. We read poor reviews from guests who stayed here in Nov. / Dec., and were a bit nervous about what to expect. When we arrived the hotel appeared to be completed and in good shape. If you looked closely it was evident that the hotel experienced a face-lift. Casino was a bit small, but it did the job considering we arrived late. The pool and health center were well kept and not too busy. The room ammenities were to Westin standards, however, the room was smaller than other Westin's I've stayed in before. Hotel staff was very helpful! On our last night the cleaning attendant did not clean up our room. We expressed our frustration and the hotel management met our request to be compensated with room service. If you are looking for a quiet , comfortable stay in Las Vegas this is the place to be. I have stayed in about 1/2 dozen hotels in Vegas including the Rio, MGM, and Strat. and this was by far my favorite. Even the location was ideal, since we were able to bypass all of the Strip traffic by driving our rental car from casino to casino. This was the biggest jackpot I've hit in all of my visits to Vegas.
I also stayed at the Westin Casuarina Valentine's weekend with my husband. My immediate impression of our hotel room was negative, but I have to admit, it grew on me the longer I stayed (and that was only 2 nights). The room with two double beds was small and cramped, especially compared to the size of the rooms in the larger properties on the strip. We wanted one King bed, but they didn't have any available - even for a Starwood member. The decor in the room is mid-century modern, and it initially felt cold, but the attention to details made up for it. Loved the opaque window shade, the suede-like curtains (made the light coming into the room in the morning glow red - lovely!), the semi-circular shower rod, and, of course, the heavenly bed. Also appreciated the coffee maker and mini-bar - most unusual in a Vegas hotel, and it was very quiet at night - a plus. The room was spotless and in pristine condition. The closet was very small. I was impressed with the lobby/casino - small and intimate, very clean, quieter than most and free of smoke. And the video poker machines were kind to us! Also liked the restaurant - nothing special, but no waiting in line for breakfast, decent food and excellent service. And the walk to the strip isn't bad, especially if you run across the street and into Bally's back door. I'd stay there again, but I'd be careful to whom I recommended it.

My husband and I were guests at the Westin in early February. As a Christmas gift my husband purchased tickets for us to see the Celine Dion show at Caesars Palace, which was excellent by the way!!! Our stay at the Westin was exceptional as well. While we were spending some time and money on slots, management offered us complimentary tickets to see David Brenner who was performing that evening at the hotel. We graciously accepted, and really enjoyed that 1-1/2 hour with him. We also enjoyed the casino at the hotel, didn't mind the short walk to the strip as a break in the action, and had a great breakfast and dinner in the dining area. We totally agree . . . the king size bed, pillows and comforter were like sleeping on a cloud! I want one just like it at home! We will make the Westin our first choice every time!
The Westin has contemporary designs and style through out the hotel. The beds are extremely comfy. We had a two double for two people. 4 people would have made it a little cramped. Only negative is the room was pretty dusty. Everywhere, even in the bathroom. Kind of odd, but really a non issue. Unless, you have allergies. The casino was pretty small, about, 10 tables. It was a nice contrast from all the hectic busy casinos/hotels. The location worked for us. We would cross the street and be at the back end of the Ballys Casino. Overall, I would recommend it as long as you don't mind that there isn't a huge casino. They have a free workout room. There pool is small and on one of the lower roofs. If you want to avoid massive crowds the Westin is perfect. NOTE?the Starbucks in the hotel does NOT accept the starbuck gift cards. found that out after waiting 15 mins. and with no other cash on hand. Oh and check the website directly. We went in Feb '04 and there was an online only price of $88/nt.
Quiet and Quality

We spent 3 nights at the Casurina in Feb. using Starwood points and had a very nice stay. As Starwood Gold members we were upgraded to a 17th floor deluxe room with a large window and a great view. There were two arm chairs in front of the window that were perfect for relaxing in the morning with our coffee and in the evening with a drink and enjoying the view. The room was fresh and clean and newly renovated and the king sized heavenly bed was very. very comfortable. There was free Starbucks coffee in the room as well as a robe, a safe, a large desk, standard storage space and a generous bathroom. The hotel was very quiet at night and the casino was quiet and relatively smoke free as well. We received a $20 slot card coupon with our registration and my husband received another $10 slot card when he applied for one on his own. The hotel is just across the street from Bally's back door and about a 5 min. walk to the strip. Once the monorail opens, it will be very convenient to the Casurina. We really liked the location for it's convenience to the strip and quiet location. We would definitely stay and gamble here again.
Not so bad
Stayed here for Valentine's weekend. Although totally walkable to the Strip, the walk is not that nice. The beds were nice, but for a "new" hotel which opened in Nov. 2003, it looked a bit worn. The small details which most Westins are famous for were lacking at this one: the conceirge was not helpful when we asked for directions to a famous LV restaurant (written up in Gourmet and located on a major roadway). The paper was only delivered our first morning, and when I asked for one the second two mornings they said they were out and the same the next morning; we only got chocolates one night. On the upside the our room had a great view, there was plenty of parking and we won money at the slots. We would not stay there again.
Nice rooms, poor location
If you're looking for a hotel with a nice room and bed, you'll be very happy at the Westin. The rooms are relaxing.
The location and lobby of the hotel, however, are questionable. I would not recommend this hotel to a friend.
The heavenly beds so deserving of the name
from A TripAdvisor Member
I too was leary when I read some of the reviews. but the hotel is now 100% complete and everything about it is perfect. The beds truely are amazing! and deserving of the heavenly title. My friend just died and went to heaven when she went to sleep. Definately the most comfortable bed anywhere!!! You will have no problem sleeping in this hotel. The hotel is on the small side. Which is nice in Vegas so you get to calm down and relax instead of being jumpy all the time. It has a small casino which doesn't emit much noise or smoke. The elevators are only a step away from the entrance which is a great feautre for a Vegas hotel.
The parking was amazing too - not a mile trek and a elevator ride and then a tram to get to the hotel like most places in LV but right next to the entrance. Everything about this hotel was made for the ultimate relaxing no stress get away to Vegas. And although it is not right on the Strip it soo close literally across the street from Ballys with an entrance to the Paris hotel as well. You really are on the strip.
Altogether this hotel is highly recommended. I even snagged it for only $60 a night from priceline as a four star strip hotel for a Sat - Wed stay. Unbelievable!!!!
Better than I expected
I booked a 4 star hotel on Priceline for $70 and got a night at the Westin. I was worried about the place after reading the negative reviews on this site and others, but was pleasantly surprised when we got to our room. The lobby/casino portion is nothing special, some slots and a few bj tables, but the rooms were nicely appointed and modern. Our non-smoking floor actually smelled like a non-smoking floor, which is rare at many hotels, especially in the City of Second Hand Smoke. The Westin rooms have the Heavenly Bed system, and I'd say that this is worth the price of the room alone. Definitely the most comfortable hotel bed I've ever slept in. The staff was friendly during the limited contact we had with them. My advice to others is not to avoid this hotel based on previous reviews, they seem to have gotten their act together.

Go see the lion feeding at MGM
Just happened to walk in the MGM grand at the time of the lion feeding, what an incredible experience! I have never been so close to such a beautiful animal. This was truely the highlight of the trip and not to be missed for anyone of any age, and its free! Great commentary from the animal trainer as well.
Mon. - Thrus. evenings 25 cent roulette and buck craps
Check the times, but for those of us who like to play, but are too cheap for the $5 tables, the Westin offers Mon. - Thurs. evenings discounted roulette & craps.
You are going to spend more in Vegas
We have been going to Las Vegas for over 15 years and noted that the slots don't seem to be as loose as they used to be. In addition, everything else has gone up in price. Years ago you could get a good meal for a reasonable price in just about every casino/hotel but no more. We wonder when they are going to start charging for parking.
