I have stayed at Terribles numerous times upon leisure trips to Vegas, both alone and with my husband.
Although I have always enjoyed Terribles before, our Dec '05 trip was another matter.
Terribles is in the process of adding a garage (sorely needed) and new hotel tower - meanwhile both hotel security and upkeep are suffering. Employees lockers are now located in trailers on the south end of the property - they tend to leave all the doors open to the hotel - but in reality, you can walk directly from the casino to the hotel corridors anyway! the other concern is that the rooms which I have stayed in before were usually clean, neat, in good repair - this time the window had no weather-stripping, the shower head had a leak that sprayed water on the wallpaper above (although I must admit both were fixed quickly once I notified them) and the room felt somewhat old and tattered - although Terribles was never fancy, it had always been better than on this visit.
The breakfast buffet and all the food at the Bouganvillea cafe remain well priced and good (basic food), and I did win a $100 bonus on a 18 line penny machine - but they no longer have good coupon books, and the casino, as always is very tight with machines, and usually quite smoky.
This visit I was out playing elsewhere, and went to pick up my husband outside the hotel - he had to stand there with two employees who had just been fired - was a bit uncomfortable! After quite a while, someone seemed to notice on security cameras, and came and shooed them away.
During my Jan '06 visit I did go to Terribles several times for breakfast buffet (buffet has 2-1 coupons, and they honour them at 1/2 price for buffet if you are dining along) as well as for lunch - low redemption values at a kiosk opposite front desk and great Chinese food lunch specials (weekdays), I think we will no longer stay there until the construction is complete.
It's a shame - they have shuttle to/from airport and some of the best prices in town.
