Hated the Plaza

Our third trip to Vegas this year started out horrible! As soon as we walked in to the Plaza, it went down hill! First, Bruce, the desk clerk, could not find our reservations & tried to put the blame on Expedia. We've used them many times & never had a problem & would not have been on the airplane if there was a problem. After finally being given our room~~what a disappointment. We found out the day before we were to leave that we were given the oldest room in the hotel. The room was horrible! The carpet had a big stain, the furniture had to have been the original when the hotel opened. It even had missing handles from the dresser. The TV was so small & old that you could not read the news going across the bottom. The bathroom was very little with a missing stopper in the sink. The toilet ran all of the time~~even complaining did not get it fixed. The worse part was having to wait in the check in line to get to the safe. DO NOT eat at the Chop Chop room!! The food is the worse I have ever had in Vegas! After complaining about our experience, we were offered a free stay which I refused to accept!! I would never stay at the hotel again!

The Smell was bad

I just returned from a five night stay in Las Vegas at the Plaza Hotel. It was my ninth trip to Las Vegas so I know what to expect in downtown vegas. This was my first and last stay at the Plaza. I had room 1402. The room was very large but very dirty. The couch and chairs were so old and dirty I had to cover them with towels before I could sit on them. What was really bad was the smell of the casino. We did most of our playing at other down town casinos. The price was good, the place was bad.

First time at the Plaza but our tenth time in downtown Las Vegas. Rooms were very large ,clean and quiet. Check in staff and dining staff were excellent.Coupon book was used and Breakfast buffet was average , Chinese was excellent and Steak & Lobster special was indeed special.Location is perfect to roam Fremont street. Only bad experience was valet parking attendent .He was contfrontational ,rude and generally not consumer oriented.Twice had words with him and tried to avoid him .Would I stay again? Probably, but may try another place next year.

we stayed at the plaza oct 9-11 2003 the room stunk like urine the beds were crap saggy spings poking thru mattress bathroom very cramped this place should be totally remolded or torn down i ate in the diner the seats are covered in dirty stickey vinyl the seats are uncomfortable service slow at peak times overall rating -10 ,dont waste your money .
fitzgeralds, california, and main street station are much better choices

Stayed at the Plaza 29th August - 7th September 2003. The friend I travelled with has stayed at the Plaza before and thoroughly enjoyed it so suggested her son use it as a venue for his wedding. The staff were very efficient in the main. The cashiers were very friendly, always had a smile and time for a chat. A few miseries on reception on occasion!
We were kept "well watered" in the casino. The wedding was first class, although brief. Ok, so it is a little shabby in places and we did have a leaky ice machine on our floor (24th), but I suppose the price reflects this. We had an excellent view of the Strip from our room (2430) in the South Tower. There is an excellent bus service the other end of Freemont Street. The #301 bus travels the length of the Strip.
For $5 you can buy a 24 hour ticket and get on and off as much as you like. Good value when a single journey is $2.

I would definitely stay here again. The Strip is a little too busy and "in your face" for me.

Great Place To Stay

We stayed at the Plaza Sept 8th thru the 12th 2002 The entire staff of the Plaza are super people they really do go that extra mile. We went to Vegas again this year and we chose to stay on the strip the hotel we choose was a mightmare and we were very dissatisfied with everyting.We went downtown to the Plaza to eat and play in the casino and we had a great time. It was great to walk into a place you have only stayed in once and the cashiers remembered us as well as the people in the restaraunt. That is not something you find very often, i was so impressed with them and i would not think twice about staying there again. I take of my hat to everyone who runs and works at the Plaza.

It's seen better days. It's clean. It's full of smoke. They are making improvements. The Center Stage restaurant is actually very good. Good convention/meeting facilities.

Not Great, Not Horrific

I stayed at the Plaza twice. August 5-8, 2003 and August 10-13, 2003. I found a cheaper place to stay on the weekend when the prices at the Plaza flew sky high. Overall, it's not a bad place. The first stay, I was in the South Tower, 8th Floor. It was clean enough, bathroom's tiny, and yes, it is worn. Unfortunately, on my last day, while checking to see if I left anything behind, I looked under the beds and there were a previous man's crumpled up socks underneath the bed!
Meaning it's been there for days and may still be there! Pretty gross, I must say. The second stay was worse, I was in the South Tower, once again, in 1035 and the room just smells of urine. As soon as I walked in there, I could smell it. It helped to turn up the AC, unfortunately, the maids would constantly turn it off if I was out of the room, which was all the time, so I'd come back to a smelly room everyday. The 8th floor maids put the AC on full blast so I'm not sure what the deal is there. The bed had a wooden frame/support so there was no way any strangers' socks would be found. Perhaps that explains why the maids didn't check under the beds on the first stay. Upon check out, I asked the woman (British accent?) a simple question : 'How do I get to the airport?' She hadn't a clue, and told me to go outside and ask! I suppose there should've been security outside but there wasn't. AND she didn't even bother giving me a receipt. The breakfast buffet isn't worth the money so unless you have a free voucher (which I had and think I have a leftover one if anyone wants - expires 8.28) don't bother. It's pretty gross if you really think about it, then again, so are most hotel breakfast buffets. It's a fine place to crash, it's worn, and it's luck of the draw on the rooms and people who are helpful and know their stuff. And be careful, the doors sometimes don't close and lock properly without a good, strong pull/push, and make sure the maids close them properly too!

Great trip thanks to the Plaza

Just got back from the Plaza, had a great trip. We drove 20 hours to get there and arrived earlier then expected, there was no problem checking in early and they made sure we were in the same tower as the couples we were meeting there. (they had booked separately). The staff was very friendly and helpful. We were in the south tower on the 23rd floor facing south to the strip, it was a great view at night. The room was big but the bathroom was a little tight, certainly not bad enough to be a problem. Easy access to the FSE which was a great time. The party atmosphere on Fremont street is a lot of fun and you are truely withing easy walking distance from half a dozen other casinos, not like the strip where you may need to day plan just to walk to the next casino. The Poker room was very friendly and they made sure the comped drinks were frequent and fairly strong. All in all we spent about 20 hours in our room in three days which made the $23 a night a great bargin.

Top Local Tips for Las Vegas

DONT DO GRAYLINE shuttle bus Grayline shuttle bus is one of at least three other shuttle busses at the airport that will get you to where ever your hotel is. Grayline is NOT more or less expensive, they just don 't have good customer at ALL! They didn't show up AFTER I CALLED like requested 24 hours in advance. After arguing with them on the phone they FINALLY showed up an hour late. Get the names of people you talk to and WRITE THEM DOWN! Shuttles cost for the downtown hotels, 8.00 per person from the airport and 15.00 round trip per person back TO the airport. If you are staying on the strip in Vegas, 12.00 Round trip per person (the prices may change, but all the shuttles at the airport are REAL close in price if not the same) You can ride the "deuce" a double decker bus up and down the strip all the way to Freemont street and probably further if you know what routes to take :) one way is 2.00 or for 24 hours unlimited 5.00 (pay the 5 bucks, give your feet a rest you WILL NEED IT! lol)

you get what you pay for spend the extra money and stay at the Golden Nugget. Everything was absolutly great at the Nugget, well worth what the price was. I will stay at the Nugget again and again, that is for sure!

Video Poker Avoid the "Jacks or Better" game on the machines at The Sportsbook Bar at The Plaza. It only pays 6/1 on a full house instead of 9/1. At a regular rate of play you would be out about 60 credits an hour.
