Historical Traveller Reviews of New York New York Hotel and Casino
NYNY

Stayed at the NYNY this past weekend. Upon arrival at the hotel (approximately 4 pm), it was extremely chattery and busy - I loved it!!!The room was nothing fancy but my view was magnificent. I looked directly at the M&M/Pepsi Store inside the MGM. I always received prompt, friendly service and check-in/out were phenomeonon - quick & simple!I was disappointed in the hours of pool operation. Pool did not open until 10 am - what's up with that???? I could not get a direct answer from any employee.Overall, it's a keeper - I'll be back!

There was a slight problem with check-in, however, we were pleasantly surprised with our rooms, more than above average in size and very clean, with two windows, we were surprised with the lack of noise from the rollercoaster which was right outside our windows. The resaturants were slightly dissappointing though
Needs to define its targetted clientel

The rooms were fine altho our room was a country mile from the elevators. The casino was good. The dealers were friendly and the players were good people although some had no business at the table games. Gallegher's restaurant which I used three times in five nights was/is outstanding. While I used a VIP registration desk the lines to register or check out were impossibly long and tedious. The rough aspect of this hotel is that they apparently cater to a very young clientel. The place was packed to the point that trying to walk someplace was near impossible and loud, the noise level on the casino level was near deafening. Perhaps it was Spring break week.
Just your basic hotel

I have stayed at NY, NY twice (only because they are comped) The first time we had requested a non-smoking/king bed room, they put us in a smoking 2 twin bed room. After complaing, they put us in a handicapped room, which has a shower that floods the bathroom and room. This was a suprise trip for my 21st birthday, and needless to say I was not having fun. As a whole the casino is fun and the night life is a good time too. But compared to the Mandalay Bay, is just ok.
Good Casino, Bad Service

As always with most hotels, check-in at anytime but cannot pick up the key until 3:00pm; no problem. So we arrived around 11:00am, checked-in, and were told to come back at 3:00pm to p/u key. Drove to me sister's in Henderson and came back at 3, but then was told that the room would not be ready for 2 hours. Nah, not good. After complaining, we finally got the key. Went to the room and key did not work. Went downstairs to reprogram key and still did not work. Did this 3 times. They had to call maintenance and security. Their keys work, not ours. Security told me to get a new key but front desk refused !!!!!! Finally, the security sgt came and told front desk to do it. Feels like the front desk staff thinks their in New York. Also asked for a view of the strip, was told no problem and received a outstanding view of helicopters leaving the airport. Yep, a view of the airport, nice huh. So as far as the staff goes:Security - A+ (hard job but good)Maintanence people - A+ (even though I shouldn't have to deal with them)Housekeeping - B (descent job)Front Desk - FCasino this themed pretty good, looked like New York City with the steaming manhole covers. Great New York style resturants. We come to LV 2-3 times a year, never again will we say here. Circus Circus is a better hotel than New York, New York.
Never again

Long story short, we got stiffed on the room we reserved twice at NY, NY. They don't honor reservations, smoking/non-smoking or bedding type. They give you whatever room they have at the time. We even tried waiting for 3 hours for s different room with no luck. We love the hotel but expect a non-smoking king when that is what we reserve.
Nice fun hotel

After staying in a luxury suite at the Venatian on a previous visit to Las Vegas I was unsure that this hotel would live up to any expectations I had. Even though the two hotels do not compare, I would recommend this hotel to anyone. I stayed in a basic room which was adequate in size. It was a corner room overlooking the strip which provided an excellent view. I thought the casino floor was one of the best on the strip as the theming continued which added to the atmosphere of the whole hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The main reason I choose this hotel was because of the roller coaster ( I am a huge white knuckle ride fan.) I was not dissapointed, it was probably the bast ride I have ever been on (and I had been on a lot of different ones!!) I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wanted a great Las Vegas experience without a huge expence.
Big Apple had a worm.....no pool

Tight and congested casino floor, full of seemingly underage kids from CA. Heeding the outcry, the pool is now closed for renovations - but we didn't know it until we tried to go. The MGM pool is open to NY, NY guests, as long as it is not the weekend. FYI, the trek to the MGM pool is about 20 minutes. The wallpaper was peeling off the wall in one spot and shower was the size of a porta-potty - and we upgraded to this room! Overall, wanted to like it, but couldn't. Stay elsewhere unless you want to relieve your college spring break.
Bad First Impression

Stayed at hotel. Had a hard time checking in. There was no room available for 12.00 hrs after arriving in hotel with pre-paid trip. Lighting in rooms was awefull, realy poor. Card swipe elevator out of order more often than not.
Great Room-Great Staff
from geminiguy1111
After seeing some negative reviews of NY-NY, I was pleasantly surprised at the service and accommodations! I arrived early in the morning (6:30AM) and was given an upgrade to a wonderfully large room that was very tastefully decorated. I did not hear the much talked about noise from the roller coaster. I found the front desk staff and the casino employees very helpful. I would not hesitate to stay at NY-NY again!
Top Local Tips for Las Vegas
Bring your comfortable shoes.
There is soo much to see and alot of it is in walking distance. There are monorails and pedestrian bridges connecting some of the casinos. The buses run up and down the strip so you can ride some or walk. Vegas is in the desert, but the evenings can be kinda chilly so keep a jacket handy, especially depending on what time of the year you travel. The air is dry, so I found that a nasal saline spray was most helpful at the end of the day.
Careful of the taxi drivers
Becareful of taxi drivers, we had one that shold not have been on the road! He came close to crashing twice. We only tipped him $1 since he drove like a nut (we didn't have a problem with any other taxi drivers on any of our other trips) After he saw his tip he started yelling and swearing at us.
Margaritas
Fat Tuesdays Margaritas are the best. On located across the street at the MGM. A few others located on the strip. We made it to every one of them. Also Kauhunaville (sp?) at TI, I believe, has great margaritas and flare barteneders. Really neat to see!!
