Luxor Not What It Use To Be

I stayed at the Luxor over the weekend in July with three 20 year olds and we were all very dissapointed. First, the room carpet, tables and chairs were stained, dirty and just overall worn out, TV didn't work properly, the view from our 17th floor room looked down upon a mess of wires and the casino floor was under construction, dusty and very cold. The pool area was a little better until they blasted the music (louder does not make it better). If you are trying to cater to the younger 20-30 year set, that's fine, but when I have two 20 year olds (who are dancers and also act and do musical theater) who thought the loud music was so tacky and their ears where ringing for the next 12 hours it times to go to another hotel. They charge too much and offer very litte. All this for $275 for a Saturday night. Only thing good was their food.

This is a terrible place to stay. The construction noise and smells were awful, our room was unclean and the staff was totally unhelpful. For the price we paid, we should have had a MUCH better experience - their customer service folks just told us we should have seen what it looked like a few years ago and that they were renovating. Excuse me, but how is that my problem? Terrible experience.

The Luxor used to be a grand and pristine place to vacation, but we found that maintenance has gone the way of the dodo. The outside of the door to our room and many others was discustingly filthy, and the floors in the hallways were littered and unkempt. Construction noise was dominant all day long, and the dust and dirt was tracked everywhere. The wait to register was over 30 minutes! The pool was very nice, and the restaurants were good as well. Consider another location unless you don't mind the noise, dirt and poor maintenance.

I was suprised that a hotel like this would be so unclean. The room hadn't been properly vaccuumed in a while and the hallway was litered with garbage, including garbage from the guest rooms. It's unfortunate that the Luxor doesn't provide an e-mail address since I would prefer to send this to them rather than post it here.
Watch Out For the Buffet

We checked in at 2:00PM and headed to the Lunch-Buffet. My fiance had stomac poisoning for the next 4 days...we spent it in the room with little help from the hotel. Buying meds in the convenience store was a rip-off. They got us sick and then charged crazy prices for meds.

We received lots of lip service from their Risk Managers but no follow up. It was a terrible experience and I'm happy to say that with so many other hotel casino's in Las Vegas, I wont have to stay there again....BEWARE OF THIS PLACE

Hotel 10 service 10 everything about our stay was super. Planned wedding fantastic results, however don't expect to get paid on a slot machine if it hits because it will just tilt or suddenly show machine error! That's what happened to us on 08/16/2005. While playing progressive wheel of fortune for several hours' the machine I was playing showed I hit the jackpot, which at the time was over a million dollars suddenly moved off the line and showed tilt. How strange for it to suddenly malfunction. The wheels were turning so slow after it tilted you could still see the symbols on the line except for the last one that moved. I went to get a slot person to explain what had happened and all he could say was sorry, and that if it had been a winner it would have paid off, as he was quickly trying to reset the machine to get the symbols out of view. Went to the main slot lady on the floor and she basically laughed at me saying sorry there's nothing she can do. It wouldn't have mattered if it was for 100$ or a million$ your not going to get the big prize. In my opinion we got screwed and there's nothing that can be done. I know there tapes would show the machine and what had happened, but to them so what!!! Oh well life goes on. I still have a dime in my pocket and a beautiful bride. [Just wasn't meant to be rich]

We found the check in staff a little off hand, and it's not as if they were particularly busy at the time. However, the hotel was comfortable. The facilities and entertainment excellent. We were only there for 2 nights, in which we managed to get to see the Blue Man Show. I would recommend this to anyone as it was superb.

best bang for your buck

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed at the luxor twice in the last year.
i would only stay in a tower the rooms are a good size and the large soaking tub(no jets) and separate shower are the best.
the front desk staff are really helpful, the bell staff are an excellent resource for a tourist.
the pool is beautiful and large with a lonely back drop of the pyramid.
best place t get a message and the spa is open 24hrs a day.
the food is good and wait staff is much better than mandalay bay.
access to two other casino from indoor walkways perfect for those 110 degree days
one bad experience with check rude uninterested
not the place to stay for a view of las vegas

Luxor was AWESOME!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
We traveled to Vegas for my 21st B-day and stayed at The Venetion, MGM, and The Luxor. The Luxor was by far and away the best stay around. We had a Jacuzzi suite for 2 nights priced under $210. I would recommend The Luxor to anyone that is looking to have a great hotel/casino experience in Vegas. Vegas Baby!

Dirt and Dust Everywhere

from A TripAdvisor Member
If you plan to go to Luxor, stay in the Tower, NOT the Pyramid. First, our room was dirty. The bathroom had NOT been cleaned and there were "remenants" of the previous occupants. When we called down to request a maid, one never showed. When we left for dinner a couple hours later, we found a basket of cleaning supplies outside our door, but no maid. In fact, our room was only attended to once in four days. Looking up the interior of the Pyramid from the casino floor is impressive. Looking down from you room, you see a thick layer of dirt and dust on top of the interior buildings along with toilet paper, beer bottles, shoes, etc. From the looks of things, these had all been there a while as well. We rented a cabana at the pool and yet still couldn't get service. Why give you a phone to call and request wait staff if they are only going to tell you that they're busy and to come to the bar yourself? The only good thing about the Luxor was the tram that took you to Mandalay Bay, where things were nice and at least appeared to be clean at first glance.

Luxor Luxury

from A TripAdvisor Member
Have stayed at the Luxor many times and the room is always consistently clean and very luxurious for the price. I think the best room is a tower room, on a upper floor, facing the strip. The pyramid looks neat, but the rooms are much smaller and less luxurious than the tower rooms.

Just returned from our trip to US, spent 4 nights at the Luxor & loved it. The Grand Canyon Helicopter Trip is also a must

Loving it at Luxor

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed for the first time at Luxor 11/22/02 - 11/25/02. Room was above average: clean, spacious. We stayed in the Tower, not the Pyramid. It did not take 2 hours to find the room, like some other hotels. This is one of the few hotels on the strip where you walk in and are not immediately thrown into a crowded casino. Nice lobby area. Blue Man Group was awsome. Service was top-notch. Casino was average. Dealers at the craps table were not the nicest people in the world. Did better on slots than tables. I have been to Vegas several times, and this is the place I will stay for now on. Great location, mid-strip is easily accessable.

Some Rooms Are Noisy

from Gord1066
Be sure to ask for a high room. Our room was only on the 4th floor and the loud, pulsating music from the RA Nightclub didn't stop until 4:30 am. We had a sleepless night.

Lots to Do, But Stay in a Tower Room

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at the Luxor in Dec. 1998. The hotel has a great, fun atmosphere and a lot of fun things to do for all ages. Our room was decent as far as cleanliness and comfort, however, it was very noisy. We stayed in the pyramid. I would definitely recommend staying in the tower instead.

Excellent Stay!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Visited October 2002. Supreme service. Excellent accomodations even for a standard room in the tower. Telephone in the bath! No waiting to check in or out, and room service was delivered in a flash. I had no noisy neighbors. The downside is the location of the hotel and lack of an excellent view. Fun environment.

Check the adjacent hotel for Taxis We left the Rio after a Penn and Teller show. No Taxi's to be found, huge line in the que for shuttle as well. We walked to the next hotel/casino . No wait.

Best time to reserve a cream of the crop penthouse or suite in Las Vegas The week after Thanksgiving is when there appears to be the least amount of activity. That's when you're likely to find a gorgeous penthouse or exquisite suite that you would normally never consider for one or two hundred a night! Go ahead, splurge! You two wanted to ditch those people after slaving over that turkey dinner all month anyway - you deserve it!!!
