from A TripAdvisor MemberWhat an awful place
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe first morning we decided to eat our "free" breakfast at the hotel.
We had to clean our own table. Out of all the tables we picked the cleanest one we could find and it was not clean. Food was OK. Our room was filthy..the carpet was more dirty than clean. I would never have walked on it barefoot. The air did not work very well..by the time we left ..after 4 days.. our room was starting to cool off. The bathroom drain was open and the water backed up in it and filled the bottom of the bath tub. I was never comfortable to leave the room and go to gamble myself. The casino, restaurant, and bar were continually filled with a transient population. It was very dark and smelly. On the last night we were there I picked up my pillow and crickets jumped out of my pillow case. My suggestion would be to find another place to stay this one needs to be leveled. The highlight of the place is the desk staff.
They are helpful and seem overworked but very nice.
Hey a nice place to stay at a great price.

from Mark-noleYes, it's well-worn (the Casino, not the clean, remodeled rooms), but it is the real and authentic deal. I've stayed here on most trips since 1980, and really appreciate the VIP treatment that would require a large bankroll on the Strip. I also agree with the locals that downtown Casinos offer the best slot machine odds.
Retro Downtown -- Give It A Try!
from finest14Walking a block to the Fremont Experience and the other downtown casinos was never scary, no matter what time of day or night. I saw security walking and on bikes all time and felt safe. There were a few bums around, but I was never bothered. Played some blackjack at the casino, and the $2 minimums were great. Didn't see that anywhere else in town. Some of the dealers couldn't count very well, which added to the entertainment of it all. The other gamblers in the casino were some of the most colorful characters I've ever met! Give the "Spike" a try if you want a good, cheap room, and don't mind a little local flavor.
If you want a fancy hotel, a pool, and ritzy service, than go somewhere else!
Top Local Tips for Las Vegas
$5 Blackjack at the Fremont Hotel, and $3 on weekdays The fremont hotel has $3 blackjack on weekdays, and $5 blackjack on weekends. It's about a 10 minute walk from the Gold Spike
Dont take taxi taxis are a waste of money and they like to take the long way. A company called C.L.S. is a small bus that you can have pick u up to and from ur hotel to the airport. and its only 8 dollars.its very roomy and comfortable. Its not a van, its a mini bus.
Learn to use the mass transit in Las Vegas They have a fantastic mass transit system in Vegas. You can get anywhere in Vegas for $1.25. If you get tired of gambling and eating tourist buffets, hop a bus and go to a movie, a swap meet, neighborhood garage sale, Nellis AFB
