Historical Traveller Reviews of Flamingo Las Vegas Hotel
much better than what I expected!
from A TripAdvisor Member
We visited Las Vegas at the beginning of May and after reading so many negative reviews of the Flamingo Hotel, we were very apprehensive regarding the quality of the hotel and its rooms/facilities. We worried for nothing, the hotel was excellent, the room was big and VERY clean, we were on the 17th floor with a great view of Caesars Palace and the Ballargio. I agree the bathrooms are on the small side, but considering the amount of time actually spent in your room, I think it a minor concern. We went to see Gladys Knight(an excellent show) followed by a wonderful steak dinner at Conrads Restaurant which is within the hotel. We even had our own Elvis singing at the main entrance to the hotel. The hotel had a good range of shops for all tastes and the staff were helpful and polite. We had breakfast most mornings in the Garden Buffet Restaurant overlooking the beautiful gardens with Flamingos and other exotic birds. It was a wonderful holiday!!
just fine! Give it a chance!

I just arrived home last night from a 3 day trip down for the weekend. I have travelled extensively and am very picky re rooms, cleanliness, service etc. I would describe the room as 'tired'. Beds were comfortable. Bathroom had older fixtures. Nothing was sparkling clean and fresh but I did not encounter mold, or slime-------I would have made a fuss if I did. View from room was ideal---overlooking tropical gardens. Food was great in the big buffet room. Poolside bar-b-que burgers were made to order on grill. Easy to grab an OJ and muffin in mornings.Only played slots and did well--- service for free drinks was very slow but no worse than other casinos. Caesar's was much quicker. Pool was cold, and there are no where near enough loungers for all that want them-------arrive early in A.M. to get them. The pool area is beatiful and very tropical------once the water warms up it will be perfect. Staff do not enforce a 'no reserve policy' re loungers at pool and that is insane. If one can get a good deal for a room/package here I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it as being a reasonable choice. No, it's not Bellagio, but then we were only in the room sleeping (5 hours a night). We only ate one dinner there as well. Cheers!
Glad Places Like This Are Still Around

Just finished my fifth visit. Sure, the carpets are a little worn, and room service might be a little slow at times. If you want to be totally pampered by sleazy, obsequious staff members and require flawless furniture, this may not be the place for you. But if you want friendly blackjack dealers, and you enjoy spirited table talk, and getting tips on gambling from old timers, if you love wandering through beautiful foliage and watching frolicking penguins, swimming beneath waterfalls, this is definitely the place to go. (I gather penguin Island is undergoing some renovation... if anyone knows anything more about that, I hope they'll post a comment.) Basically, the Flamingo's got something no other hotel on the strip can match: Character. It isn't some faceless resort designed by a huge corporation that was erected overnight, it grew from Bugsy's original casino to what it is today, tower by tower. It's eclectic, even a little wacky, and off-beat... most of the staff and guests have a great sense of humor. And, by the way, I've won four out of five times I went... the odds at the blackjack table are above average, I'm told. Also, if your choice of attire is very informal or even off-beat, no one's going to bat an eye, so go ahead and wear that loud shirt or those crazy 50s sunglasses. If you want to swagger around in black tie wearing a diamond watch, and insist on world-class cuisine, this may not be the place for you. But if you enjoy being at a place where the other players clap and high-five you when you win a hand, where the bartenders are friendly and funny without getting in your face, check out the Flamingo. Let's hope this place never gets torn down or remodeled out of existence... there's just no place like it on the strip or anywhere else.
We come back every year!!!

My husband and I have stayed at the Flamingo for about 10 years now. We do most of our gambling there, too, and usually get lots of comps. The casino hosts are friendly, food is good and the room are very nice. In fact, we will "check in" again in two weeks.
Roughing it!

This was our first trip to Vegas, I was truly disappointed. The Flamingo has nothing on Motel 6, except maybe height.
Excellent stay... just ask for a high floor

The Flamingo is a great choice in Las Vegas. I must have encountered about 20 or 30 of the staff during my 4 night stay last week and every single one was friendly, courteous and helpful. They must have an excellent customer service trainer.I used the great airport check in (right across from baggage carousel 1), however, I did have one problem. When I arrived at the hotel I discovered that the airport agent had put me in a room on the 7th floor facing Bally's. At that low level the high intensity lights that illuminate the hotel outside made my room seem like a tanning booth. Even with the drapes closed the light bled in so I went back downstairs and explained my concern to the night manager and she moved me to the 12th floor facing the garden area. Much better! (By the way, I'm always amazed at the people who complain on this site... if they had just communicated their displeasure to a hotel manager while they were there, chances are good that their complaint would have been solved! Remember folks, the managers at larger hotels usually got to their position by being very customer service oriented. As long as your request is reasonable, they should have no trouble granting it. If not, get their name and complain to the owner... then post your complaints here!) One other minor comment: the Flamingo did not do a good job of locating elevators in the towers. Many rooms will be quite a trek, so be prepared to walk, or ask the agent for a room near the elevators. My room was very clean and easy to live in. Nothing super special, but nice. The hotel also has an excellent customer service staff available by phone any time. I used them often to ask questions and request an advance check out. Two other big plusses to the Flamingo are the location and the buffet. Although I still prefer Harrah's buffet slightly more because of their wonderful vegtable soup, the Flamingo dining room is much nicer.
Excellent Location

My wife and I just got back from Vegas. We decided to stay at the Flamingo, due to its location and storied past. I found that the location was better than I imagined. We were right in the heart of all the action on the strip. Our room was OK. It was nothing too glamorous, but it did the job. How much time do you actually spend in your room anyway? I will say this though. It is not as bad as most of these reviews say. I have stayed in a lot worse hotels in Vegas. We didn't try any of the restraunts at the Flamingo, so I cannot comment on them, but we did have a wonderful meal at Caesars. If you are the Buffet type, you should check out the buffet at the Rio. That has got to be the best buffet I have ever come across. The pool was a little crowded. The view made up for the amount of people though. I wish they would limit the pool to hotel guests only. All in all I would definitely recommend the Flamingo to anyone. If you think you are a high roller, you shouldn't stay here. But than again, if you are really a high roller. You shouldn't have to worry about where you staying, because it will be free.
What a dump

The rooms are in bad need of remodeling. The chairs were too nasty and stained up to sit in. The carpet was nasty and stained and the room was dirty, dust every where. Great location, but what a dump!
Great Deal! Nice Hotel!

Visited here in 2001. We got a really good rate and stayed here for 4 or 5 days. The hotel is one of the older ones, but it does not show. Our room was nice, and well worth the price. The pool is where this hotel shines! One of the best pool/recreation facilites in Vegas. It was a plus that they had Tennis courts too. For the price, this is the best deal in Vegas, in most cases. We had a really quick check-in which was a great plus.
Disappointed in the Maid Service
from KidBerlin_Maryland
For YEARS I have stayed a week at the Flamingo Hilton, Vegas and have thoroughly enjoyed it. (even had to talk a travel agent into booking me there because I liked it so much and they wanted me t go somewhere else)This time, the Maid service was the PITS! 1. NO face cloths one day.2. Left a note for bottled water another day and they not only DIDN'T leave any they TOOK the bottles that were there. I have a serious health problem and am disabled and requite water. (There is none in the soda machine on the 4th floor either)3.She left NO glasses whatever on another day and on and on(You are probably asking why we never called for help in these matters. Well, we do NOT complain and are very easy going, so we make do. However, because we are in the Tourist business as well here, (Ocean City, Maryland) we like find out if people truly have an honest to goodness complaint. Thanks for listening to me.Gratefully,Anne K. Top Local Tips for Las Vegas
Good dinners at reasonable value.
Aside from Margaritaville, try Isla (Mexican) in Treasure Island and Maggiano's (Italian) in the Fashion Show Mall. Both were great.
Not to be missed....
Don't miss the Cirque du soleil shows. We took in Zumanity and O and were just thrilled. Zumanity is adult but very tastefully done and O is appropriate for everyone. Just fabulous.
Don't stand in line!
We paid for a bachelorette package that gave us 13 passes to clubs. This allowed us to by-pass the line at popular clubs such as Rain and JET. Not standing in line was really nice because we didn't have many days in Vegas. If you go to 4 or more you more than make your money back. If you want more details, PM me and I'll be happy to help!
