Spacious And Dog-Friendly

Well, being dog-friendly is most important. It's an apartment with everything you'll need in the kitchen. Free breakfast buffet and happy hour later. Much better than just staying in a hotel room, but, in trade, you give up being on the Strip. But it is close to the Strip. I plan to stay there every time I go to Las Vegas now. Much cheaper than small rooms on the Strip.

Nothing Fancy, But Adequate and Spacious

I was at a convention at the MGM Grand and stayed at the Hawthorn Suites for 5 nights in a 2BR, 1 Bath Suite. It seems to have been at one time an apartment complex because the “suite” I stayed in was quite large. It is about 1 block from the MGM Grand and across a major street - about a 5 minute walk and directly in back of Hooter's Hotel and Casino.

The neighborhood, in my opinion, is on the transitional side with a luxury condominium complex being built across the street and some old apartments right by. I did walk back to the hotel at night, and had no problem, but it was not very well lit. I prefer to walk through the Hooter’s parking lot as they seemed to have security and when you walk through, you arrive at the edge of the Hawthorn.

If you don’t want to go out for dinner, the front desk has a variety of menus from restaurants that deliver and I ordered a great salad and some quite decent Italian food from Milano’s, I believe.

The hotel is in need of updating and the front desk manager told me that some of the suites were already updated, and the rest would follow. I did walk around the room with white socks and they were very dirty - the dark carpet obviously needed to be cleaned. The phones in the 2 bedrooms were not working and only 1 was fixed while I was there. The windows absolutely needed to be cleaned. Plus, it seemed like some of the downstairs rooms were being used for storage and it made the hotel look dumpy from the outside.

The front desk was extremely nice and helpful and made you feel at home. They do have a great hot buffet breakfast if you like bacon, ham or sausage and eggs, plus either pancakes, french toast or waffles plus hash browns or home fries. If you want healthier fare, just take your own cereal and get skim milk from them. They also have apples. The breakfast is very busy, but so is anything in Las Vegas.

I used their safety deposit box, located at the front desk, and had no problems.

The big drawback with two women, was the small bathroom. But it did have a separate sink from the shower/toilet. Oh, and there is a balcony off the living room.

There is absolutely nothing fancy about the suite I stayed in. However, it is so spacious that this did make up for this – plus the price was much lower than other hotels in Las Vegas. High Speed Internet is an additional $10 a night.

I will probably stay there when I return next year for 10 nights and hope that they have updated it.

Great price, great accomodations

I read in the another review, that they overbook...which is true. Upon our arrival they told us that our 2 bed + 2 ba suite was not available and that we would have to work with a 2 bed + 1 bath. 4 Women in one bathroom for 3 days...NO WAY! So after plenty of words we found ourselved in one of the time share units....BEAUTIFUL! The breakfast buffet was eggs, bacon, bagels, OJ, cereal, the works! The pool area looked nice, but who swims in November? The gym looked nice too. The walk to MGM to get on the Monorail was about 5 minutes and one that I would not suggest doing at night alone. But you are close to everything and we found we could hop in a cab and be anywhere for less than $10! We loved the fact that it was close enough to the action, yet just far enough away that we could get away from the ringing slots and the smoke filled rooms if we wanted to. We were really happy we stayed here!

Just like home

We just returned from a week long stay at the Desert Rose Resort at Hawthorn Suites. The hotel is right off the strip directly behind the Tropicana, San Remo, and near MGM. After reading all the bad reviews we were very skeptical and expected the worst. We arrived around 4:00 p.m. on a Saturday and were pleasantly greeted by the hotel front desk clerk. He pulled up our reservation quickly, handed us our keys and a map of where we were located in the resort and answered all of our questions. Our room was a one bedroom suite with a separate bedroom which had a queen bed with pillowtop mattress, large TV, CD/clock radio, dresser and closet. The one bathroom was right off the bedroom. The shower was large, pressure good and we were always given new shampoo, soap, etc. daily. The only drawback of the bathroom was the very small sink area. The living room area was small yet had a pull out hideabed, large TV, dresser, lamps, etc. A dinette had a 4 person table and the kitchen had everything; microwave, toaster, blender, dishwasher, full size refridgerator and all plates, cups, utensils, pots, pans, bowls, etc. We were given fresh towels for both bath and kitchen use daily. The hotel had a small pool (unheated) with a hot tub and provided pool towels. In addition, we used one of the large deluxe gas grills provided in the bbq area for a steak dinner one evening. Free breakfast was provided daily. Every day they had scrambled eggs, one kind of meat (bacon, ham, sausage)and either pancakes or french toast. Several cereals, english muffins, toast, doughnuts etc. and juice, milk, coffee were also provided. Mon-Thurs. was free beer and wine from 5-7 which was a relaxing way to spend a couple of hours before heading out for the evening. The lobby also has high speed internet available as well as a concierge.During the week it was very quiet. In addition, the hotel had 3 laundry rooms so it was great to be able to do a couple of loads before heading home.We were told there are two areas of the hotel. The suite we were in was a timeshare unit(we booked into Desert Rose Resort through Expedia)which we were told were much newer and nicer than the other units. I would highly recommend this property. Keep in mind you will have to do some walking to get to the strip, but it's not more than a 10 minute walk.

Got the room through priceline. Its very close to the strip, walking distance to the MGM and Tropicana, but everything else about the place is terrible.

No high speed internet, no security, poorly lit parking and entry ways. Room was a non smoking 1 bedroom suite that was FILTHY. Kitchen was dirty, carpets were old and stained, bathroom was falling apart, bed was as uncomfortable as possible, televisions didn't work well at all and were about 25 years old.

Poor Customer Service

I had a reservation in May for two nights but had to cancel. The hotel sent me an acknowledgement email with cancellation number.

They then billed my credit card for two nights lodging and tax.

After two calls to their corporate office and three calls directly to the hotel, I am still waiting for a credit to be processed. The corporate office, who has tried to resolve this with the hotel, told me today that I may need to file a merchant complaint with the credit card company--which I have now done. How's that? The corporate office, which has my cancellation number, is not even able to help.

I travel to Las Vegas three times a year and you can be sure that I will never stay at Hawthorn Suites.

good value

stayed here for 2 nights in june as it had been the pick up point for a grand canyon rafting trip i had just done and entitled me to a good rate. For the price it offered a good location with friendly if not always totally efficient service. The rooms were a little dated but clean and comfortable and the small pool area sufficient for the use it got. One drawback was difficulty of getting a taxi from here with long waits but then realised a 3 min walk to San Remo next door solved that problem. A good choice for a budget stay.

Hidden Gem in Vegas!

Want a big living space but don't want to pay the high price of staying at a "strip" hotel? The Hawthorn Suites is for you! Big, 2-bedroom suite with kitchen for less than most hotels on the strip charge for a single room. Just one or two blocks from the strip gives you easy walking access to it.
I thought that this place was great for people trying to save a few dollars yet be close to the action of the strip. I've stayed in the Hawthorn Suites twice now, and both times I didn't regret it for a second.
Also, they served a delicious free breakfast. Hard to get anything for free in Vegas, but the hotel's breakfast did us right each day.
I would definitely stay here again. You should too if you want to be close to the action on the strip, but don't want to pay strip hotel prices for smaller rooms.

Bad outweighed good

The room was beautiful once we got there.(granite tops, ss appliances, 3 tvs, good towels and sheets, tiled bath, but grout on the ba floor) Decent service and security(but couldn't tell if he was a guest or security, dressed in shorts and bball shirt). It took one hour to get to the right room. There was a minor problem finding our reservation and removing my credit card from the manual machine. Then, the cards wouldn't open the door. After getting a key that worked, the room had only one bed. We had five people. Security gave us four key cards to the new room. Only one of the keys would work on the room door and pool gate. None worked for the first floor entry door on our return from the pool, so we used the stairs to the second floor (We didn't swim, since the pool had floating debris. It was windy that day. And the hot tub was occupied by a man sleeping, then by three guys). There were no sheets or blankets for the sleeper sofa. We missed the breakfast buffet because of our early flight. We couldn't really enjoy the nice room, considering our schedule, the price(way too high for a two-star) and problems.

Fair to middling

Stayed two nights in a 2BR suite located on 2nd floor near pool area. Check-in was easy, outside of property looks very nice. Suite itself was just ok. Furnishings are low-end and dated. We wanted a 2BR since we were traveling with my elderly father. The pool was just outside our window and was under construction -- our 2nd night there it was worked on with loud banging until 11pm at which point I called the front desk and complained. We were also next to a stairway and the door banged loudly until all hours of the night. In the early morning people were below our windows having breakfast outside and talking loudly. I chose this hotel we wanted a place we could be in the same unit with my dad, but should you decide to stay here for the "amenities", I highly recommend you request a room facing an inside courtyard and not the pool area. Oh, and should you not want the free scrambled eggs & bacon buffet, the San Remo next door serves breakfast all day.

Great price for reasonable accomodations

The Hawthorn Suites on the Strip are in a great location, only a short walk from the strip (Tropicana, Excalibur, MGM, NewYork-NewYork). We stayed there for New Year's this year and it was definitely the most affordable accomodations we could find. The only surprise to us was that it is more of a motel, with all hallways and stairways being exposed to the elements. For most of the year this is probably not an issue, but New Year's weather was approximately 40 degrees. There is definitely nothing lavish about these accomodations, but we couldn't beat the convience with our car rental and free parking at all hotels. And now that the monorail is up-and-running, the Hawthorne will once again make the hotels on the strip more accessible (via MGM).

Mac King Comedy Show You can get free tickets to the Mac King Comedy Show at Harrah's casino if you buy a drink there and it is a GREAT show...about 90 min long and he is very entertaining...he is so funny & a great magician too! I would highly recommend it!

Day trip to Oatman Az Great little town on Route 66. Burros roam freely in town and the locals put on a western gunfight in the main street.
