Darn nice Place, very pleased

Sunset Station is a VERY NICE hotel. Sunset station is as good as if not better than some of the strip hotels. For the record, I have stayed at MGM (several times), Luxor (several times), TI and NYNY.

It is a large hotel casino, very modern and up to date. It’s clean and does not have a “worn” look anywhere to be seen. A lot of table games, and a lot of slots. A nice Italian restaurant and the food at the Mexican restaurant is very good. The buffet is plentiful with an Asian bar, Mexican bar, American bar and a BBQ bar. The BBQ bar was undergoing renovations, so some of their food stuffs were on the American bar. Lots of various desserts. It was all very good.

Our room was a two queen “petite suite.” It was a very large room that held not only the two queen beds, but a large couch, a desk/chair and a relaxing chair. The view was great, as it was of the strip about 5 miles away, making our view of the horizon all of the hotels on the Las Vegas Strip. Looked like a postcard.
The bathroom was large with a separate door for the toilet. Bath amenities were simple; soap, shampoo, lotion. Towels were soft, not scratchy.

Many people talk about the “long walk” from the casino to the hotel elevators, I don’t know what they’re talking about. Didn’t seem that long of a walk to me, Maybe 100-150 yards? Big deal. With all the walking you do in Las Vegas, this is nothing.

The slots – Lots of $1, lots of video poker, lots of pennies and nickels also. Very few $.25 machines. The $5 machines are as tight as a drum, probably due to they seem to get minimal action.
Loose slots at Stations casinos? Yeah, I guess. I didn’t do too bad. Got one good hit on a $1 with a Red 7-Triple Diamond-Double Diamond for $1440. Had a couple small ones on the quarters.

Non-smokers....Beware!

I specifically called in our reservation (not via the internet) to insure we would have a non-smoking room. Upon check-in, the clerk said that our room would be a smoking, king room. I said that I had specifically requested 'non-smoking' and guaranteed it by paying the first night with our credit card. The clerk proceeded to tell me that all they had left were smoking rooms and that they only took 'preferences' for room types. I said that I should have been told that at the time I made the reservation (which I made five weeks earlier) as I would have gone elsewhere.
My husband then asked to speak to a Manager. The clerk walked away into an office area and came back several minutes later and said, "ok, we'll just bump someone else's reservation". We both found this 'policy' very disturbing. If it had not been a Saturday evening, after a long flight and we knew the area better, we would have gone elsewhere.

The rooms are just ok, nothing special. The crowd on both Saturday & Sunday night consisted of heavy smokers and a LOT of young people. In fact, I saw a lot of young people who should not have been in the casino area.

The Buffet was below average and the service bad. Lines at the buffet were long and tables were littered with dirty plates.

The hotel charges a daily fee for 'hotel guest services', whatever those are. The pool was never open our entire stay, even during the said posted hours although weather would have permitted for swimming or sunbathing.

Overall, I would not recommend this hotel, especially since they will not guarantee you a non-smoking room and have very poor 'customer service'.

Great Vegas Option especially with kids

We've stayed at the Sunset Station on our annual trip for the last 5 years. We recommend it to our friends. It is less crowded and crazy than the strip hotels. Our son loves the KidsQuest (he begs to go) and we feel he is safe there. There is a movie theater, Hooters, fast food, buffet, sit-down restaurants (much cheaper than finding meals on the strip). They are also getting ready to open a huge bowling alley. They had remodelled the hotel part since our last stay and we were very impressed. The rooms look great. The casino is great.
We always rent a car and the strip is not that far to go down there when we want. Plus there is a superwalmart right across the street where we load up on pop, water and snacks. And there is a mall across the street.

Good Stay

We stayed at the Sunset Station for one night in late November 2004. The room was really nice. We were pleasantly surprised.

The best part about the hotel is that there are so many dining options close by. You're not stuck eating overpriced food all the time like you are on the strip. The breakfast buffet was excellent and cheap $6/person. You'd pay twice that on the strip. There's also lots of restaurants within a short drive and/or immediately adjacent.

This hotel is located at what I'd call Big Box Store Heaven. There is every imaginable big box store around the hotel...Best Buy, Walmart, Target, Costco, plus it's across the street from a mall. Nice place to stay if you want to shop.

The casino is one of the best looking one's I've seen. I loved the theming..very nice. All in all it was a great place to stay and a good value too!

Not the best experience

We visited Las Vegas in October, 2004, arriving at airport terminal #2. We were unfamiliar with the Las Vegas airport and could not find the hotel shuttle so I called the hotel for assistance. I was informed that the hotel shuttle does not provide service to terminal #2 and that we would have to somehow get to terminal #1. The desk clerk told me she didn't have time to give directions and the shuttle desk guy simply said "take a cab". We finally got some help from the night crew in the by-then virtually deserted terminal, who were kind enough to direct us to a (free) airport shuttle that took us to terminal #1. I got the impression that neither of the hotel personnel that I spoke with knew much about the Las Vegas airport, nor were they interested in helping us out. (Strike 1)

Then when we got to the hotel, we were given a smoking room, although we had specifically asked for a non-smoking room when we made our reservation two months earlier. They did not have to post a sign identifying it as a "smoking room". We could tell by the stench. (Strike 2)

Finally, when we inquired about the return shuttle service to the airport, we found out that it did not operate before 11AM, which was too late for our return flight. We had inquired about the shuttle schedule when we made our reservations, and the late-morning start was never mentioned (nor the part about not serving terminal #2). (Strike 3)

In other respects, the rooms and food were OK. However, because of the general indifference of the staff and the stinky room, we decided to end out stay at Sunset Station early and found other accommodations.

Beautiful and convenient

Sunset Station just did a HUGE remodel and the rooms are absolutely beautiful. Clean, fresh, open. The hotel and casino is gorgeous, has lots of restuarants in all price ranges, and is right across the street from the Galleria Mall. Very nice place!!

decent rooms

Stayed @ Sunset Station one night on Nov. 12th. The rooms aren't anything special, but decent. Looks like an ordinary hotel room. Bathroom somewhat small. Didn't spend much time in the room anyway.

The elevators to the room are at the back of the hotel. It takes some time from the casino to walk to the elevators.

The casino is huge and there are plenty of slot machines. Of course, I didn't win anything.

It was nice staying off the strip. The Sunset Station is located across from the Galleria Mall which was nice.

I have stayed at some of the best hotels in Vegas and this hotel and the room were right up there with most of the strip hotels. The hotel did not have a shopping mall with overpriced items or any extravagent rides, but it had a lovely room with a nice view and no traffic. I was able to park right by the elevators and because it was nice not to have to valet everytime I returned. The casino was small but comfortable and not packed like most strip casinos. The room only cost me 33.00 a night and I felt as though this was one of my better trips. What a deal!

I have only been to Vegas on two occasions, so I don't consider myself an expert by no means. On my first visit I had a chance to visit the casino and the buffet at Sunset Station a couple of times. I enjoyed the atmosphere so much that on my next trip I opted to stay there instead of on the Strip. I was pleasantly surprised at all the amenities that were included on the property. I have a teenage son and was pleased to find that there were things to keep both he and I entertained. Since I'm not much of a gambler the amount of time I spent in the casino was minimal,still it was a nice experience. I would highly recommend Sunset Station to anyone... the staff was polite and the service and amenities were exceptional.

My daughter & I were at the Sunset Station for 2 days last week. The rooms were excellent, well maintained, nicely furnished, decor was excellent. I have 2 complaints, kids were running down halls after 10:00 and charges for 1-800's should be free as they are everywhere else. They wanted to bill us for a $1, but they wrote it off because we figured 1--800's are free. Also, it would have been nice to have a small coffee maker in the room as some other hotels do for people who want to have coffee first thing in the morning. We may visit again since the hotel is very very nice and big.

Top Local Tips for Henderson

Hotel Dining in Sunset Station Have eaten at Capri and Costa del Sol before, and they're both good. If you're staying at the hotel, be sure to check your coupons - they have 2 for 1s for different places. Get your daily newspaper in AM, and look at cover of paper. It has coupons on it too. Look at terms - some you need to have your room card to use - others you don't. If you're looking for something alilttle less expensive or a better deal - consider eating at Quiznos, Fatburger, Sbarro or Panda Express near movie theatre. Get Sbarros large pizza for about $20, and they have a couple drinks free. They're whole pizzas taste better freshly made, than the warmed over pieces they have out on display. If you have an Entertainment book, they have coupons for the Ben & Jerry's inside next to theatre, plus you use the coupons in there for the movies. Never eaten at Sonoma cellar,but it looks nice. Its on my list of places to try.

Bottled water There is a Super Walmart right across the street. We walked over to pick up a twelve pack of bottled water. We saved quite a bit over the vending machine price!
