This is possibly the best B&B we've ever stayed in. Where to begin? The lodge is a beautiful log structure, about a mile from downtown Whitefish. The owner, Woody, and all the staff were helpful, friendly and generally went out of their way to make your stay pleasant. Our room, a king suite, was spacious and the bathroom was grand, with a 2-person shower and a separate jetted tub. There were lots of places to hang things (the absence of which in many B&Bs is a pet peeve). Among the many pluses were: an excellent (and quick) breakfast; complimentary wine (good stuff, not jug) and snacks late in the afternoon; on departure day we had a 6 AM flight so they set aside some cereal and milk for us to have that morning; a well-stocked library of hiking & travel guides plus leisure reading. This is hands down the best choice in Whitefish (unless you are a skier and want to be closer to the slopes, on Big Mountain).

The Best Medicine!

This is one great find in Montana! We stayed in the upstairs suite which was perfect. The bed is very confortable and the selection of CDs will ensure a great atmosphere (we choose the Native American CD, to go along with the room). There is a great electric stove that also kept the room warm. The bathroom is fantastic. We had a large, jucuzzi tub. The shower was a double headed shower with the jets that cover you from top to bottom, a must! The food was wonderful and very hearty. Woody and his wife are excellent hosts. We will be back! Only a quick drive from Glacier!

Yes, stay here.

Well, I have to say that every review is pretty much spot on. Woody and his wife are great. We only stayed one day which was simply not enough. My wife and I typically hop from town to town on vacation. One day does not do this location justice and I would suggest settling in for a minimum of 2 just so you have the opportunity to visit local attractions and take advantage of the solitude and services of the lodge.

We stayed at Good Medicine Lodge for 2 nights in late June, 2006 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Upon checkin, the owners warmly greeted us and answered all of our questions. They were quite knowledgable about the area and offered good advice on places to eat and visit. The rooms (we had 2 rooms) are extremely clean and nicely appointed. The breakfasts were also good as were the snacks and drinks. We stayed at 5 different places on this vacation, and Good Medicine Lodge was definitely the best!

I will not bore you by repeating what has already been said. this is a top notch place run by top notch people. to stay any place else in white fish would be taking a chance. why take a chance. But can I make a suggestion? spend some time in big fork and you will thank me. what a great town. we spend 3 nights in white fish and 2 in big fork. I wish we had spent more time in big fork.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights to kick off our honeymoon. We found it very hard to leave! Everything about this place is wonderful. We stayed in the #1 suite and it was fabulous - jacuzzi tub, large shower, comfy bed, private deck, and adjacent private "reading room" overlooking the main room of the lodge. You can tell that Betsy and Woody, the hosts, really love what they do, and their level of detail is to be commended. We cannot say enough good things about Good Medicine! We'll be back!

Good Medicine is Great

from Yowzah
My wife and I stayed at the Good Medicine Lodge for 7 nights at the end of February. We were in the Great Northern Suite and thoroughly enjoyed the two-person jetted tub, large shower with 8 shower heads and very comfortable king-sized bed. The suite has a large outdoor balcony and large sitting area that is your own private loft over the lodge’s living room. The location is excellent and is close to everything. Although the road they are on is fairly busy, the house is so well insulated you could not hear the traffic at all.

The cleanliness of the place is very noteworthy. Breakfast was excellent everyday and the beer/wine and appetizers were welcomed after skiing all day.

We spent one day snowshoeing in Glacier National Park (GNP) and another day dog sledding with Dog Sled Adventures. I would highly recommend both. You can also rent skis and snowshoes right next door to the lodge. Skiing at Big Mountain was excellent. As the name implies, it is a big mountain and provides a lot of variety. The lift lines were almost non-existent and the facilities were busy, but not overly crowded, meaning you could actually find a seat at the bar or for lunch. The scenery was spectacular and my only regret was not having my camera on the first day of skiing when the sky was crystal clear and the GNP mountains looked close enough to touch.

I travel extensively for both business and leisure and I give my highest recommendation to Betsy and Woody and the Good Medicine Lodge.

We stayed at the Good Medicine in January 2006, and everything about the place was perfect -- excellent gourmet breakfasts, very hospitable hosts, decorations w/ impeccable taste, and cozy communal areas for reading, watching tv, or playing games w/ the family. There's a jacuzzi in back w/ a great view of the mountain. You're also close to town w/ lots of things to do and see in Whitefish. Highly recommended!

t wait to go back!

I've never stayed in a nicer B&B. Words alone cannot describe our experience here this past weekend. You will just have to come to the Good Medicine Lodge yourself to find out what makes this place the best in the West!

We loved Good Medicine Lodge

Good Medicine Lodge was one of the highlights of our trip to Whitefish. Woody and Betsy extend gracious hospitality to their guests. This is a first rate operation where a lot of thought went into providing a quality lodging experience. There is a TV room with glass door for viewing TV shows, DVDs or VCRs, multiple cozy seating areas, a large gathering room with a wood stove, internet access via an in-house computer, a hot tub, and other little niceties like a complimentary glass of wine and a light hor'd'eurve (sp)around 5:00 p.m. If I were ever to operate a B and B, I would hope to do it with such care and class.

Top Local Tips for Whitefish

Big Mountain Great hike on Danny On trail and right when you are done you can eat b-b-que hamburgers or grilled cheese and soup~

Trail of Cedars/Avalanche Lake Hike Take a easy/moderate day hike to Avalanche Lake in Glacier National Park.

Whitefish is an ideal gateway to Glacier NP Unlike many tourist towns, Whitefish has managed to strike a balance between local flavor and tourist development. For example, if you were a little turned off by the upscale shopping mall ambiance of historic downtown Jackson (Wyoming), then give historic downtown Whitefish a try.
