Helena Bighorn's Hockey Take in a bighorns game when you stay in Helena, they have a great team that won 21 games in a row this season and the owner of the bighorns understands that it is not just a game it is also a show.

Shopping is basically a big box experience The enclosed mall is nice, but 25% empty (March 200). Every big box store you can imagine can be found on the north and east edges of town. The old downtown has some nice restaurants and cultural - civic places, plus a nice library. The state capital is nice, and the Montana Historical Society is a great place to visit.

All hotels in same area and long road to Helena You can see all the hotels for the most part (small town). They are all on the same side of town near the highway. many are new (not Shilo, but it is modern). The road to Helena takes longer than expected due to the mountains and windy roads. I averaged about 65mph and passed a lot of people. Take care coming if snow or ice are expected--it is a tough road to travel and there are large trucks on it that will kick up gravel (my windshield was beat up).
