Top Local Tips for Gardiner

Great location for exploring Yellowstone Most people want to stay inside Yellowstone NP. I know I did. But I no longer like to camp and if you want to stay in a hotel or cabin in YNP, you have to book early (at least 6 months ahead of time). And it will be costly and crowded. The Old Faithful area is a real madhouse. Way too crowded for our taste. When I found out staying inside the park was not an option for us, I picked Gardiner off the map as the next best thing. After staying there, I believe it is THE BEST PLACE. Our cottage cost $70/night. A great deal. We had dinners that cost around $20/person. Try to find that inside the park! There the lodgings are considerably more expensive and more spartan and you must even make reservations for dinners ahead of time. The park is pretty big so no matter where you are staying in the park, you will still do a lot of driving. Gardiner proved an excellent location, I would stay there again.

I so miss the old Movie Theater A few blocks away is a beautiful stone movie theater. I wish someone would reopen it....

great outpost town! Gardiner is a great base for exploring Yellowstone. Not overly touristy.
