Lovely Hotel With a Great Staff

Three of us stayed in two rooms during a recent trip to St. Louis for a conference. Two of us stayed in a "superior" room and the third, a standard room. Although standard room overlooked absolutely nothing... our room offered a great view of the downtown celebrations following the St. Louis Cardinals winning of the World Series. Bed was large and comfortable; amenties were top quality; elevators were fast and required key access; breakfast in Olive was fresh and delicious as we always left full; check in and check out was easy and the staff ever so helpful. In fact, the entire stay was one of the nicest we have experienced. The downtown location provided easy access to the Arch and all downtown activities. I highly recommend this hotel.

Very good hotel overall

The hotel is in a central location - just a few blocks from the Arch, the Old Courthouse, and Macy's. It's a longer walk to Busch Stadium, but entirely reasonable.

Check-in was easy. Gennelle at the front desk handled my check-in and even remembered my name three days later when I checked out of the hotel. The room was very clean, but was an awkward shape and a bit small for three people. Although our room was a non-smoking room, it smelled a bit smoky when we checked in. After I called the front desk, an engineering staffmember came up within 5 minutes to clear out the smell. When I came back to the hotel at night, a member of the front desk came out to greet me. Very nice touch.

If you are a Gold Hilton Honors member, you can get FREE breakfast vouchers for 400 Olive Street. It's a buffet breakfast that includes an omelet/waffle bar. It's really filling and very good. I found that service at the restaurant was good - the chef brought the omelets to us when they were ready (we didn't have to stand around and wait for them).

Parking costs $15/day to self-park. On weekends, though, you can park on the street for free - but no one tells you that (at the Westin, they did tell us.) On Sunday morning, after driving to church, I parked on the side of the hotel that only has a sign that there is no parking between 7am-6pm Mondays through Fridays (it doesn't apply on Saturdays and Sundays). We were going in to have breakfast at 400 Olive, grab our jackets, and then drive to the Missouri Botanical Gardens. A rather surly valet/bellman rudely told me that I move my car or have him park my car. I have no explanation for his rude behavior, but he saw us in the hotel throughout the remainder of our stay and never greeted us or acknowledged us. HE was the only unpleasant staff member in the hotel. Everyone else was wonderful.

I would have given this property 5 stars if it hadn't been for the surly bellman/valet.

Hilton was superb with the exception of service at the restaurant

Since I have been lurking on these boards for a couple of months and have found the reviews very helpful...I thought I should write about our experience.

My husband and arrived in St. Louis for the game in St. Louis @ 11:40 a.m. They have quick park in the Hilton ramp so we explained to the attendant that we were checking in after the ballgame...no problems...just got a ticket and showed it to the front desk upon check-in.

We arrived back to the hotel to check in around 5:00 p.m. It was very quick check-in process and the staff at the front desk were so professional and nice. We went to get our luggage and I found a huge orange sticker on my vehicle stating that my car was going to be towed. (I parked a little bit on the line in the ultra-small parking spot.) I called the front desk immediately upon arrival to the room and they could not have been kinder or more helpful. They immediately resolved the situation. (Of course I re-parked my car "in the lines" before going back into the hotel.) The manager actually went out to the garage and personally removed the sticker...which must have taken some terrific appoxy because I tried to remove it myself and it wasn't working at all! This situation was totally my fault since I can't park!

Finally, about the room...quiet, comfortable, and extremely clean ***kudos to cleaning staff****. The bed and the linens were great!

Because of the good reviews we dined at "400 Olive"...the hotel restaurant. Ambience was nice....Hostess was quick and curteous...Service started out okay, but in the end, was aweful. Our server had 4 tables total the entire time with no more than four persons a piece. We only ordered drinks and entrees since we had apps earlier after the game. Our server was curteous and attentive initially...then it fell apart. She told us she was bringing bread and 20 minutes later our entrees arrived cold sans the bread. Then she forgot our drinks that we had ordered 15 mins. before and also the steak knives (we both had steak). Meanwhile, she brings out the entrees for the table next to us and forgot to bring the salads before the meal. She stated, "Whoops, sorry about that, do you still want them?" A table of 4 had walked in meanwhile and had to be waiting for 10 mins. plus for a greeting. I worked my way through college as a waitress...my parents own a restaurant...so I may have certain expectations when I'm spending $7 on a drink and $30 plus on an entree. The food presentation was beautiful and I think the food would have been devine...if it was hot. Unfortunately, our waitress could not multi-task. If she had 1 table all night, I'm sure that she would have done great. Enough about that.
Bottom line: Won't eat @ 400 Olive again...there is better value and service for the money. Loved the room!!!! So clean and comfy!!!

I would love to return to the hotel in future trips; however, my husband wants to consider Hilton @ The Ballpark.

The Perfect Place - Seek no further!

ALL of these reviews are true! This property is exceptional from the decor, the cleanliness, the location to all sites, and to the warmth and professionalism of the staff.

It is located just two blocks from the Old Courthouse and the Arch on the corner of Olive and Fourth Streets. The nearest Metro station is at Eighth and Pine (one block over and four blocks up from the hotel). The Metro is quite handy in coming in from the airport and will only cost $2.00. OR, the parking garage next door is VERY accommodating to hotel guests and just costs $15 per day, self-park. Aside from our trip to Anheiser Busch, we parked the car all day and walked or used the Metro to go to Union Station and other sites.

This is an stylish, comfortable, and reasonably priced hotel for couples and business professionals. They have meeting rooms available for small to medium size groups. They have no pool so I wouldn't recommend it for children but they do have a fitness room with jacuzzi for adults.

Five star hotel

My husband & I stayed over Labor Day weekend for a Cards game and the Blues Festival. We have come every year since 2000 and have stayed at 3 other properties not related to Hilton. We will return next year to the Hilton when bringing the kids and grandkids. This is a great property located within walking distance to most everything. The staff was extremely attentive.

The front desk was great at check-in. Very helpful with suggestions of places to eat and the attractions. The room was on the the 8th floor and we actually had a partial view of the Arch. VERY CLEAN!!! The bed, bedding,pillows were the best we've had in St. Louis, slept like we were at home on our pillowtop. Room was very quiet also. Doors did not slam shut like some. Two bottles of water in fridge are on the hotel.

You have to use room key for elevators, liked that security.

Breakfast buffet was also very good. You can order a custom omelet or waffle with the buffet, something husband likes because he eats big on vacation. Also kept our water glasses full, something we take notice of as we are not big coffee/juice drinkers. Did not eat dinner there.

Husband used fitness center and said it was fine. Not crowded and had a hot tub/spa also.

Spent time in bar also, great drinks. Ordered my 1st martini (chocolate) after the game and now I'm hooked. Service was very attentive. Popcorn was served at the tables. They have a late appetizer menu if you want to eat after the restaraunt closes.

Elevators were fast (only 8 floors) and coffee service if available outside elevators if you prefer something besides the room coffee.

I had to use the business center computer and printer to do on-line check-in for the airlines and the printer was not working, but the front desk helped as they also have a kiosk in the lobby for check-in for the hotel OR airline. Very nice.

I read previous posts about prices. I believe the cost of breakfast buffet and drinks and room were very in line with the other places we have stayed. I feel we actually got a bargain for the great service we received.

I would highly recommend the hotel to all. I have been lucky to travel all my life as my dad worked for an airline and so have been to many hotels. This was exceptional in service and accomodations in my opinion.

A great Spot for business or pleasure

I stayed there in July 2006 with wife and 7 year old daughter on way to Florida. I really enjoyed the car valet experience. As opposed to tipping car valet,, and the car baggage unloader, and the bellman to room guy,,,in St Louis, it was the same person. He got the tip that I would have given seperate people, so he was -suprised-. Maybe it was the time of arrival,, 745pm,, but what a great concept. From front door to check in desk 20 steps,, and from desk to elevator, 40 steps. Easy lobby, with nice restaurant seperate from casual one and bar area. But both visible to one another. Had dinner in the nice lobby restaurant,, good food, excellent service (good wine list too). All hotel and restaurant staff had smiles on. We had a corner room with 2 beds. very spacious... saw a regular room..still nice, but a tad smaller. This is a modern hotel in an older building...thus high ceilings, cool archtitecture. with all the moderns stuff too. Free wireless for Hilton Honors guests, so enroll (free), before checking in, and you will save yoruself 11.95, plus get it free at hotel Hilton Affiliates (Hampton, Embassy, et all). We paid aprox 149 plus tax for our room, and I considered it a good value for a downtown hotel. You can walk (2 blocks) to the arch, but no rooms have a view of the arch, so no need to request a -monument- view. We would go back to this 400 Olive street Hilton. I liked this Hitlon over the older Ball Park Hilton.

Love this hotel

We stayed at this Hilton for the second time this year. We went to St. Louis in January for a weekend getaway, had a great time and loved the hotel. We decided we would go back in the summer also to see the new ballpark, we were able to coordinate this with my favorite band playing at the landing. Another great visit at the hotel, we were granted early check in although they had been sold out the night before, we were able to check in around 11:30am. Not much for views in this hotel, but we didn't really care. The bed and pillows are so comfortable. Staff is very friendly. The only negatives I can find were that we weren't given the parking permit (card) needed to get in/out of the garage when I first checked in. Also we weren't given complimentary breakfast/drink coupons that we get as Gold HHonors memebers. I asked the girl at checkout, she said that was an error on their part and offered breakfast coupons to us, which we did not take as we were ready to get on the road. We will definitely stay at this location next time we are in St. Louis.

great hotel

Stayed at the hilton for 2 nights in July. Everything was great. The room was spacious and very clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Even the hotel bar was fun. In a great location just a few blocks from the metro. I booked through the hotel website and got a nice deal.

A beautiful gem in downtown St. Louis

I can count on one hand the number of hotels that I have been to that make me feel like I am staying with friends. From the moment that I arrived, the level of service at this hotel was great.

The bellman took care of my luggage and my car and gave me a brief history of the hotel (situated in a bank building that sat empty for 10 years). The open lobby with seperate areas for the bar and dining, was very nice and comfortable, with two open vault doors serving as a reminder of the building's former tenant (one door leads to the business center, and the other to a very small convenience shop). The bellman was also very helpful later as I was asking for directions to The Arch.

I ate breakfast at the hotel only once - I had the buffet, which was too pricey, but the food was good. The overall service could have been a liitle more attentive. I did have appetizers at the bar one night, and they were well prepared, plentiful, and not overly priced.

The room was fabulous - plenty of space, a large bathroom with a huge handicapped shower. The bed was large and comfortable as were the other furnishings in the room. Everything in this hotel seemed to be very well maintained and was very clean. The housekeeping and maintenance teams do a great job.

A big thank you to everyone at this hotel who made my visit to watch my Cleveland Indians play the Cards a very relaxing and worthwhile trip!

Very nice

We purchased the Hilton Romance Package at this hotel. Wonderful champagne, the room was spectacular, the Sunday breakfast buffet was exceptional.

They seemed to be short-staffed at first (no bellman when we checked in) but the staff that was there was also exceptional, friendly, and helpful... except for housekeeping, who barged into our room at 9 am on Sunday morning because we didn't think to put out the Do Not Disturb sign that early.

Top Local Tips for St. Louis

Use the Metrolink The St. Louis Metrolink has several stations around the city and is a clean, comfortable ride. Buy an all day pass for unlimited train and bus rides. It's so much more enjoyable to do your sightseeing when you don't have to worry about driving.

St Louis Zoo It's great, and it's free.

Four Star Restaurant This hotel has one of the finest restaurants in the city, bar none. It is a four star restaurant and has earned the title honestly.
