s Best Kept Fairytale Secret

from A TripAdvisor Member
My first visit to Big Cedar was one I'll never forget because it changed my life. The tranquil scenery and rustic buildings are beyond words. The amenities are endless. Everyone has a perception of value. I feel Big Cedar is a great value when one looks at all the things it has to offer; paddle boats, golf, boating, covered docks, water skiiing, fishing, pools, spa, hot tubs, fitness center, walking paths, horseback riding, tennis, playground, excellent restaurants, great entertainers in the bar, the complimentary shuttle, a top of the line gift shop, nice linens, comfortable beds, cookie delivery every night and a view...oh what a view (at all places: Top of the Rock, Dogwood Canyon, and Big Cedar). The peace and quiet renews me. I bought points in the Wilderness Club and I've been very happy with the service I've received. Everyone at Big Cedar and on the reservation line has been nice. I didn't feel pressured to purchase...I was practically begging for the information so I could buy. I have over twenty five years of professional sales and customer service included in my career and Big Cedar offers service like we had back in the 1960's. I love that! I'm taking four more trips to Big Cedar in the next six weeks. I'm so excited because I can drive and be there in less than four hours. Leaving my car parked, I ride the shuttle, and I've found they arrive shortly after I call. Most of all, I feel very safe there and meet the nicest people; guests and employees alike. To truly appreciate Big Cedar one must have a love of nature...and a dream of spending time in a fairytale environment.

Lovely, but costly

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Big Cedar Lodge , located 10 miles south of Branson is set in the beautiful Ozark hills, along Table Rock Lake. The views are lovely, the rooms are exquisite, but it is overpriced. We had a gorgeous log cabin, all the ammenities (wood burning fireplace, kitchen, jacuzzi, etc)for $258/night. We were interested in walking their nature trail (located 16 miles west of the resort, where there are other cabins and lots of nature activities), however, it cost $7.95/person. C' that price we were paying for the cabin one would think that the use of a walking trail would be complimentary.
We'll go back next year (we go every holiday season) but will get a more reasonably priced room- and leave our walking shoes at home.

Big Cedar Lodge is the best

from TexasGeodude
My wife and I first visited Big Cedar Lodge about three years ago. It was by accident that we ended up staying there, because we were going to go to Branson with another couple who backed out at the last minute. We are not into the shows so we looked for other things to do and found Big Cedar. We stayed one night in the Falls lodge, by far the best of the three lodges. At check in we were told that we could received a $100 voucher towards our room if we went on a sales tour and there was absolutely no obligation to buy. We agreed since the room was over $200 for the night. The next morning we went to the sales offices and were greeted by a very nice man who took us on a very thorough tour and explained everything to us. At the end of the tour he gave us our $100 voucher and said that if we were not interested we could end the tour and leave, but if we were interested he would tell us more. Needless to say my wife and I were very interested and we ended up buying into the Wilderness Club. We have used it every year since and we love it. We are by no means wealthy, but you really don't have to be. In my opinion it is well worth the money. You do pay a yearly maintenance fee, but everytime we go the grounds and emaculate, and work is always being done, from staining the siding to touching up the paint on the sign. The grounds are beautiful and the people are all very friendly and helpful. For example, on our last trip to Big Cedar, my wife was setting the timer on our camera to take a picture of us when all of a sudden one of the shuttles pulled up and the driver got out and asked if we would like him to take the picture for us. On our first trip we were standing out on our balcony and one of the maintenance people was staining the siding on the lodge. He was very friendly and asked how we like the place and even offered some suggestions of things to do and places to eat. My wife and myself are about to go back for our fourth visit, and I have to say that I have always thoroughly enjoyed going.

Our secret getaway!!

When is the best time to go to Big Cedar? Anytime you want to get away from the outside world. With snow on the ground or new blooms budding, Big Cedar is absolutely breathtaking. It's blissfull silence in the off season, not to mention a great value. Imagine yourself sitting on the deck with your loved one, wrapped up in a warm blanket drinking hot coco while looking out over a beautiful lake as snow gently falls to the ground. No noise, no distraction, just blissfull silence and the joyfull feeling of nothing on the "agenda". Your toes get cold so you move into the cabin, a crackling fire is burning in the stone fireplace that warms you all the way through. This my friends is the Spirit of Big Cedar. I could go on and on about the ammenaties, the cozy cabins, the way the staff treats you like your royalty (they even put cookies in your room when they turn down your bed), but it's reallly the spirit of the resort that brings my husband and I back year after year. OK OK I thought it was our little secret getaway, but I'm willing to share...go check it out... hey, maybe I'll see ya there this December! Shhhh, don't tell.

My husband and I just returned from a two day stay at Big Cedar, the resort is beautiful and is in one of natures greatest settings. We were disapointed with the total package though, we stayed in the Falls Lodge and the noise from room to room was ridiculous, you could hear children jumping up and down on the floor above us and traffic up and down the stairs in the lodge. The resort is spread out over several acres of land, you need to be prepared to walk long distances or wait and wait and wait for the courtesy shuttle to pick you up and deliver you to another desination on the premises. The only place we had impacible service was at the Top of the Rock restaurant, every where else was just satisfactory. The marina was crowded the gentlement in charge of the facility acted as if it was a burden to do what was requested of him. We took the WIlderness club tour, our salesman was not pushy, but at the end we were given vouchers to use at the resort. We were told by the employee working at the registration desk that we could use the vouchers toward payment of our room and then when we preceeded to check out the following day, they refused to allow us to use them, it was just a communication break down, the manager of the front desk offered us vouchers that could be used at Bass Pro shops to replace the vouchers they would not accept toward room payment. When we used them the same day at the Bass Pro Shop in Springfield, we had to wait for over 30 minutes in a check out line and were told the vouchers were no good anywhere except at Big Cedar Lodge, when the gift certificate vouchers specifically stated they could be used at the Bass Pro SHop or any of their other properties. Then after several more minutes of discussion between various managers they allowed us to use the vouchers which were in the amount of $100.00. My husband and I were looking at going back to Big Cedar except this time staying in a Cabin instead of at one of the lodges on the property due to noise, but after all the inconveniences we will not return to Big Cedar. Just disappointed, what was an enjoyable trip over all and then ending with a very sour taste.

Wilderness Club Tour review

The Big Cedar Lodge and tour was wonderful and breathtaking. However, watch out for the sales pitch. The sales representative was smooth as silk and very good at her job. I told her no, at least 4 times, but she kept up the pitch, until she gave up and turned me over to another agent. I told the new agent, twice more that I wasn't interested and couldn't afford it. My wife was ready to buy in on the spot, but I can smell trouble from a long way off. I am an experienced real estate agent and now a sales rep. and I saw what was coming. The last agent finally insulted me twice. This ended the tour and I left immediately before the situation turned ugly. Unless you have lots of disposable income and don't mind giving it up, don't sign up!!!!!!!

My Favorite Place

from A TripAdvisor Member
This is the 3rd time I've stayed at Big Cedar Lodge and it gets better every year! I was there for 5 nights with my 10 year old son. We were in the Valley View Lodge. Our room was on the second floor. The room size seems double the size at a regular hotel. Included in the room rate is a daily paper Monday - Friday and recreational opportunities. We always run out of time to do everything. The lodge has 2 outdoor pools and one indoor with an outdoor lazy river. Our favorite is the Swimmin' Hole. It sits up on a hill so you can see the lake from the pool. Several times during the day the pool concierge brings complimentary frozen washcloths scented with lavender. How refreshing!
We used room service and had meals delivered hot and quick. We also ate at the Truman Smokehouse and found the food there to be delicious.
We have always had good housekeeping service however it was not up to par this year. After the first day, we were always missing something, a packet of coffee, a glass, the floormat in the bathroom. The last day there, she left her cleaning rag on the top of the toilet. Other than the housekeeping, everything was super. We look forward to visiting again.

An Outdoor Lovers Paradise

Big Cedar Lodge is an incredibly beautiful place. If you are even thinking about going, GO! The grounds are meticulously maintained. The staff is incredibly friendly from the lady that brings you warm cookies at night and turns down your bed to the groundskeepers that wave to you while their riding on their equipment. We stayed in a cabin and would highly recommend them. Truly rustic with hardwood floors, stained glass, decks, wooden furniture and plenty taxidermy inside. The antlers as refrigerator handles was quite unique. The marina is great, restaurants wonderful, pools, miniature golf, etc... all wonderful. I travel considerably and have stayed at many great places and am not easily impressed, well I was impressed with the Big Cedar. The price tag is a little steep but once you arrive you will quickly forget about the cost. I will definitely be back. I hope you enjoy as much as I did.

First Class All The Way!!!!

We stayed at the Sprigview Lodge May 17, 2004 through May 19, 2004 and enjoyed our anniversary. What a first class resort!!!! The staff goes way beyond the norm and I highly recommend renting a boat from the Bent Hook Marina like we did. While you are there be sure to say hi to Robbie and get your updated fishing report from him. He is a great guy!!!!

Will Stay at Big Cedar Again

We stayed at Big Cedar Lodge over Easter break. It's a spectacular resort. The kids really enjoyed the miniature golf and the paddle boats. We also rode horses and played tennis. The flower gardens are really nice and the breakfast buffet at Devil's Pool restaurant was really good. I hope to go back to the resort and would only make one suggestion to the folks at Big Cedar - Entrance to Dogwood Canyon should be complimentary to all guests of Big Cedar.

Top Local Tips for Ridgedale

Don't miss the Dixie Stampede Show. I was worried that we had put money into a show that would not meet my expectations. I was wrong. The show was very good. The meal was ot great, but when you consider that it comes with the show who cares.

dining.. If you rent a cabin, drive into town and get groceries..We loved grilling each night and eating out on the deck!

Table Rock Lake The Lake is very beautiful, we had a rental car which we used to drive around, visiting many nice vistas, around the Lake.
