lots of extras

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed here for a reunion and on the surface the glitter looks impressive. Be prepared to be nickel and dimed, they charge for parking, steep bar prices, very limited TV, no Fox news. Everyone is very friendly because they have both hands in your pockets. The ‘Link” access to the ‘little’ 3 story mall is a nice touch.

A great hotel with great service! Perfect Stay, indeed!

from Justforthedrinks
First, I was able to check in at 9:30am in the morning. And, yes, I was on a smoking floor and the hallway smelled and had stained carpets, and, yes, the room they put me in was on the 5th (lowest) floor and stank of smoke (even given it was a smoking room) -- BUT!!!! The staff was so accommodating and friendly to me (even though I got the room off of Priceline for $38/nights!). That button on the phone that says "Perfect Stay" is real. They really tried to make me feel at home and got me whatever I needed (including a room service attendant going and getting matches for me). I immediately requested another smoking room that didn't stink and was on a higher floor, so I could enjoy the view. They let me relax in my room for a while and then called me back within 15 minutes and they had a new room for me. They gave me a wonderful and clean room on the 28th floor (great view of the city!) and the rest of my stay was wonderful. The king bed was sooooo comfortable and I loved the room service food (try the Moon Walker cocktail -- delicious). I didn't get to try any of the hotel’s restaurants or anything (I was out on the town), but I was perfectly at home just resting in my room on a scorching hot day and watching movies and ordering room service. There was a newspaper at my door every morning and I found the parking very convenient, even at $13 per day (with in and out privileges). This hotel is in a great location (south of downtown in Crown Center and just north of Westport, a shopping/entertainment district). Would definitely stay here again, especially if I got a good deal. Highly recommended!

New renovation is worth it !

from A TripAdvisor Member
I was concerned about the review about the bed listed on this site, but the hotel just replaced all bed with the Hyatt bed. I think they call it the Hyatt Grand bed. And all the bathrooms are brand new with granite and marble. The hotel has many restaurants and the staff is much more attentive than the attitude at the Westin or the hotels on the plaza. Definitely recommend and will stay again when I return for business and when I bring my family in August so they can enjoy all the restaurants and location to the rest KC.

Just Okay, Not Great

from stlouisfolks
Our family of five stayed here recently. We got a great deal over the phone for connecting rooms, but when we arrived, they didn't have any connecting rooms, possibly since 2 large conferences were staying there also. To their credit, the hotel upgraded us to a suite. The rooms were fine--- nothing memorable, but fine. We weren't there much anyway. It's a longer walk to the shops at Crown Center than we thought, and Union Station/Science City was even farther. The Westin is more centrally located. Our room came with a free breakfast, and that was good. We had a wonderful dinner at a very nice restaurant called Milano's in Crown Center, and saw a show at the American Heartland Theatre that was really well done. On the flip side, the Hallmark Visitors Center was boring for our teenagers. Also, we bought tickets to Sci. City and rushed over to see a Planetarium Show, but the projector broke and we were not given a refund. Since the Sci. exhibits are more for younger kids, we were a bit disappointed with that. Later, we drove to the Plaza and enjoyed that area. So overall, some good, some just okay. The Hyatt would be good for conventions and large groups. Be prepared for long elevator waits.

Not Bad!

from TMANN16140
I read the reviews before I went down to KC and I was kind of worried. But The service was good and the people werent rude. The room was pretty nice. The skies restaurant was great. The only problem was the bed was hard as a rock. I called the desk and they gave me a mattress pad and it helped. The parking price was crazy also $29 for 2 days. $13 a day plus tax. overall pretty good for the money.

Excellent Hotel, Wonderful Experience!

from A TripAdvisor Member
My girlfriend and I recently stayed at the Hyatt Regency in Kansas City. I have gone through all of the reviews and I don't see what people are complaining about. This is a wonderful hotel and I would recommend it to anybody who wants a romantic getaway in the Midwest to try this hotel. The view from the 40th floor is amazing, the rooms are beautifully arranged with gigantic floor to ceiling windows. The bathrooms include a stand up shower and a bathtub to accommodate two guest. The staff was very helpful and courteous. The hotel was clean and the rooms are very well insulated to keep noise out. We had a group of horse trainers, like 100 of them on our floor and you could not hear a thing from them. Trust me, they were loud. The parking is a little tough but if you stay on the weekends you can park outside the hotel for free. Many restaurants are close buy and the concierge desk is a great help. A ++ hotel, I would differently stay here again! Also the Skies restaurant on top of the hotel is excellent. A little pricey but the food is wonderful. Trust me, I have enjoyed many fine dinning experiences and this is one of the best I have encountered! Enjoy!

Nothing Special

from Layover
I was TOTALLY expecting a different experience. The room was the size of a postage stamp. The rest of the hotel was so sterile and lacking of personality that it could have been an apartment building in some far off Russian city in Siberia that ends in "bersk".

What are these people thinking

from A TripAdvisor Member
What are these people thinking? I have stayed at the Hyatt Regency Crown Center many times. Everyone I come into contact with is always friendly, courteous and professional. The hotel is in a great location and the staff is top notch. I have never experienced anything that some of these folks claim they experienced. I would refer this hotel over any in the Kansas City area. You can get great deals and rates by searching the Internet.

OK not great

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed here over Labor day in 2004. Looking at some past reviews you would think this place is a dump. When you walk into this place you have to realize that it was a hotel that was built in the 1970s. This place is no Four Seasons, but it isn't a Days Inn. You can go direct to the hotels website and get an ok deal.

The staff did delay my wakeup call by 5 minutes. The room was clean. Service at the Hotel sports bar was slow but they only had 2 waitresses with a bar that had 40+ people inside.

The hotel was a little bit more roudy this weekend than I imagine most b/c there was a very large Irish celebration on the courtyard of the crown center with lots of beer and green fountains. This hotel is attached to a walkway that goes for 3 city blocks. It includes a Westin, a mall that is called Crown Center, and a Train Station. It would be very convienent in the winter time. Ate at some restaurant in the mall called streetcar named desire that has a pretty cheap lunch. If you have kids I bet they would like the Crayola store that is in the mall.

If you have time to kill you should check out Union station, it has 1920s architecture and a IMAX theatere. There is also a WWI memorial South of the Union Station.

Much better than I expected

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at this hotel Sept 18 and were very pleased. The lobby and staff were wonderful! We ate at the revolving restaurant Skies atop the hotel and the service and food were fabulous! Our room was clean and roomy. After reading some of the reviews we were a little worried, but we had no problems whatsoever!

Top Local Tips for Kansas City

Don't Stay at the KC Hyatt Do not stay at this Hyatt! They will tell you that it is close to downtown ("within walking distance") but that is not true. The staff, including the GM, does not seem to care about customer service and guest satisfaction.

Use the valet...and visit Science City. The parking garage is next to the hotel, but we had to walk to the elevators, go down to the ground level, walk across a bitterly cold second parking area just to get inside the hotels garage entrance. Us the valet to avoid this. Also, visit Science City if you get the chance! The adults had as much fun as the kids.
