Historical Traveller Reviews of Welk Resort Hotel Branson
Loved the Welk!!
from rogandkim
My husband, my 12 year old daughter, and I stayed at the Welk for 7 nights and had a great time. The staff was friendly and helpful. Housekeeping was always happy and nice. The grounds were immaculate. We only ate breakfast at the restaurant once and it was a buffet that was very good. We got a discount on breakfast by purchasing our breakfast ticket at the front desk. It also included all of our beverages. The waitresses were also very friendly and helpful. We really liked the location because it wasn't on the strip but still close to everything. The pool was sparkling and clean everyday. We saw Darren Romeo at the Welk Theater and it was a fantastic show. We could not find one thing wrong with the Welk. It helped to make our vacation one of the best ever. I would definitely stay at the Welk again.

Very disappointing. The "spa"? I've seen larger "kiddie pools". Breakfast buffet - guess no one was ever taught how to scramble eggs, bake biscuits or drain the grease off bacon before serving. Don't waste your calories on that buffet. Save them for lunch and eat somewehere else. Staff unfriendly. Elevator bumped and shook every time up to my room on the 4th floor. Quite scary ! Ice machine out of order - go to another floor if you want a bucket of ice. Outside, the grounds were well maintained, however. There is a plus. But that's about it. Stay somewhere else. .

My husband and I have stayed at the Welk Resort on four different occasions while attending an annual event in Branson. It is in a good location for the entire Branson area, off of the main highway 76, but close enough for easy access to any theater or show. We have always found the grounds to be immaculate. The front desk staff has always been friendly and efficient. They have always welcomed my dog, Geri, without hesitation. The room has always been clean and well appointed. The rooms are light and airy, not dark and dingy like many older hotels. I especially like the bright sunlight that comes in through the south facing windows. The breakfast buffet has everything on it I expected it to have. I have recommended this hotel to friends and acquaintances who are planning on a trip to Branson and will continue to do so in the future.
Avoid the Welk!

Very disappointed. Called a week ahead to be sure reservation was ok. No problem. Needed connecting room for family group. Hotel booked room to another family member who was coming in ahead of time. Hotel never offered any help or even an "Im Sorry". We switched with other family members to fix. Bill was wrong upon leaving. Rooms were average at best and did not smell clean. Staff in general was not friendly. Food was either cold or did not taste good. I would not suggest that anyone stay at this hotel. Be sure to spend your money elsewhere.
Welk Resorts Was a Nice Surprise

Spent 10/30-11/2 at the Welk Resort and I must say it was a pleasant surprise! We purchased a package stay and were very happy with the results. We had excellent seats to all of the shows we wanted to see--no further back than row J and in the middle no less! The breakfast buffet was very good, we were given a dinner that was also very good and generously portioned and the gas card more than paid for the fact that this resort is off the beaten path. The hotel staff was more than happy to accomodate our needs and I would recommend this resort if you like to stay in a quieter location.
Big Disappointment

This is a "has been" property! Our room was below grade so had a "basement" type window. AC hadn't been cleaned in months...vents loaded with dirt...a health and fire hazard. Grounds are nicely kept. No indoor pool. No health facilities. 1950's style restaurant ambiance......and some of the food tasted as if it had been cooked then! Rancid bacon. Cold eggs. Warm milk. Ech!!!! Even entering a review on their "interactive" screen was next to impossible (and certainly so for many of the seniors staying there with no technology expertise). Three star? Absolutely not! More like 1 at best. Would never stay there again.
Save your money!!!

We bought a package deal for our 5th Anniversary and we were very dissappointed. We spent over $700 on this vacation and the only thing that we enjoyed out of it was seeing Cirque. We upgraded to a King Leisure room and it was really not much nicer than a smaller room and the bathroom was teeny. The breakfast was okay but the restaurant was more like a Luby's Cafeteria. We ordered room service with our free food voucher and it was terribly late and not worth the five cents extra that we paid for it. The salmon was dry, the rice was old and crunchy and the veggies were all shriveled and wilted! It was just not the resort that we thought we were paying for. It felt more like a home-town inn. We decided it wasn't worth it and just went home to our children for the 4th night instead. I just think we could have gotten a lot more for our money.
above average for $40

Just so-so!

Went to the Welk Resort from July 16-21.....room was clean, everyone was friendly - was a "so-so" experience. I can't say I'd go back to this hotel if I went back to Branson. Maids left tip envelopes every morning of our stay. I felt this was very rude. We always tip our maid, but usually on the day of departure. Felt we were pressured to do it everyday and we didn't like that. The one thing I did NOT like about this hotel...they claim to save you money by purchasing show/attraction tickets at the hotel - well, this is a scam. Paid $47.00 for tickets to Ripley's Museum at the hotel but when we arrived at Ripley's I find a "family deal" for $39.00. Got back to the hotel and told the desk clerk and all they said was "thanks for letting us know. We can't help you this time, but we'll let the manager know".....yeah, right! Buy your tickets at the actual attraction/show you are going to. Also, when I booked the 5 night family special on the internet for the hotel stay, which included 4 attractions/shows as part of the purchase price, I decided to price out the room and the attractions/shows separately to make sure I was actually saving money....to my surpise, it was costing me $270 more by purchasing the package instead of doing it individually. The only other thing the package included was breakfast every morning. My family would not have eaten $270 worth of breakfast. In fact, we weren't even up early enough to eat their breakfast. If I ever go back to Branson, I will choose another lodging option.
Great rooms, Great rates

My family stayed six nights and found the Welk to be a great value,
expecially compared to all the places we stayed in getting to and from
Branson. Also the Stage Door Resturant had a great breakfest buffet.
The staff was very helpful and friendly.
Top Local Tips for Branson
Shows
LiverPool Legends is a must see. If you like the Beatles you will be very impressed. The four men are extremely talented. Also Red Hot and Blue was a great show. Very talented cast. Definitely stay away from Peppercorns, the restaurant looks nice on the outside but the food has no taste and the buffet table and the restaurant were kept very messy. Tony Z's is very good. Take a walk down on the landing it is very relaxing and nice.
Ride the Ducks
I highly recommend Riding the Ducks. I have traveled to Branson many times and never had ridden. I had been missing out!!! They were great. We rode both the original and the new ducks at Branson Landing. Both were good but I recommend the original. Lots more to see along the way. Even my 2 year old loved the Ducks.
Disabled visitors
Branson's main strip does not have sidewalks from one property to the next. Everything is a car drive. The Branson Landing is a LONG walk, and tiring for people with walking difficulty. Parts of it are not the most wheelchair accessible. The shows have w/c accomodations which is good. People walk across the main street at night in the middle of blocks, which is VERY dangerous. Drivers need to watch out for lots of cars darting into traffic AND people.
