Top Local Tips for Branson
Branso things to do Above all it was HOT! in the 100's both weeks... fewww. And everything is UP hill, no matter what you want to get to. Branson is one of the most friendly and patriotic places we have ever been! Even with the bumper to bumper traffic on 76. We (meaning everyone in the family except my husband) are not country music fans. However, there are so many shows this wasn't even a problem. Even the country shows were great. We could still appreciate the talent that it took to do the performance. We saw: the lunch show on the Branson Belle. The singer/dancers and acrobats were great. The magician was OK. The boat was beautiful. Yakov .. he was OK, his comedy was good but sometimes he gets off on a rant and it gets long. The Presley's.. very fun show. It was a variety and even though country themed, very enjoyable. The Legends... Impersonators of Alan Jackson, Brittany Spears, Blues Brothers, The Temptations and Elvis. We felt bad for the girl that did Brittany, she was beautiful and could dance but she had nothing to work with as far as impersonating talent. We also had "fat" Elvis and he was just that. He was OK. The others were fabulous! The Oak Ridge Boys... again not a country fan but I have to say they were great! Jim Stafford... he was hands down our family's favorite. He is funny and so talented. He show was entertaining from the minute he came on stage. He came down into the audience and shook hands with most of the people in the 1st 2-3 rows while doing his act. We also did: Shopping at the Tanger Mall, there were some good deals to be had but like anywhere else, you have to shop. The coupon book for $5 is worth the money. I found mine in the Micks Nut shop. Great candied nuts too. Swimming in Table Rock Lake. It is a bit rocky but surprisingly warm and very clear water. We went to Eureka Springs Arkansas. Cute town, very expensive for ANYTHING but if you run out of things to do is worth the drive. Make sure you see Crescent Hotel overlooking the town. We went to Branson Landing which is a strip mall by Taneycomo Lake. Very pretty and prices aren't too bad. The best thing however is the multimillion dollar fire and water show in the center of the mall. This is best seen at night but anytime of day is fun. It is a fire and fountain show set to music that is displayed every hour on the hour. Think Vegas Bellagio. We did a bunch more but these are the top ones. We did NOT do the Ducks. It looked fun but it was too HOT to be sitting in non-air conditioned trucks. Prices for local goods were very expensive. I felt bad because I like to shop with locals and buy goods from the area but I just couldn't do it. We found our selves at Target and Walmart. I always look for some unique thing that comes from the craftsmen of the region to have as my souvenirs. But this time I came away with nothing. The goods were just about double what I wanted to pay. I understand that they need to make a living but ... This goes for the price of admission to Celebration City and to Silver Dollar City. When we first checked into going to Branson (Nov 2006), the price of admission to Silver Dollar City was $25 per person per day. Not bad. When were there in Aug it was $58 per person per day. Seems a bit of a jump doesn't it? We didn't go to Silver Dollar either. I was very disappointed in that. Overall: The room price for local crafts are why I gave this an "average" score. (3) Based on everything else I would have put it at above average. (4) I hope this review helps someone planing their Branson Experience.
Horse drawn carriage ride It was a pleasant way to spend 45 m inutes and $40.00, but not if you are hoping to see the city and learn about it. What a joke! I could, however, tell you where the carriage driver came from, what he did for a living... he and "the wife"... and how much the motor homes cost that were down by the waterfront.
