Non-smokers Beware

from KFrank
Will never stay here again....smells like a giant ashtray. Requested two non-smoking rooms with two queen-size beds each (one in our party has asthma). Upon check-in, told no non-smoking available. Given two rooms on second floor with view of A/C ducts. Rooms smelled like giant ashtray. Called front desk who said would bring air purifier and spray, never did. One of the rooms was changed to a non-smoking room after about two hours but it even reeked of smoke. Front desk said could not change second room but would bring air purified and spray - NEVER DID even after numerous calls. Air conditioner unit sounds like a jet engine in room each time it turned on (even with ear plugs). Buffet in casino was a rip off. Food less than mediocre. Casino would not cash money orders, only if you were a member of their rewards program. Would NEVER stay here again. Was impressed with Hollywood Hotel and Casino. If come back to Tunica, would consider the Hollywood or the Grand.

Thumbs Waaayyy down on Horseshoe Casino

I booked a room on line for the Horshoe. Asked for a high floor, king bed, and a good view. I GOT a room on the second floor, 2 double beds, and a view of a bunch of air conditioner systems. The room smelled badly of smoke. The casino also smelled of smoke. I asked the woman at the Check-In for my original request, but she said this was all she had and wasn't very nice about it.
I proceeded to go over to the Goldstrike and gambled a couple hours on a $10 blackjack table, with an average bet of around $25.00. I mentioned my horrible room at the Horseshoe to the dealer, and she brought a host over to me. The host set me up for a comped room for the next 2 nights. I was on the 28th floor, with a beautiful view. I also ate at the steakhouse with a $100 comp and was driven back to the airport in a limo. Needless to say, I'll stay there again, and avoid the Horseshoe like the plague.

When we booked we requested a king, nonsmoking room with a view. What we got was a double, smoking room overlooking pipes on the roof. For medical reasons we requested to wait on a nonsmoking room. Apparently that is what you need to say if you want to make a desk clerk mad. She did offer to send up a heppa filter for our smoking room. Of course the filter never came. The carpet was threadbare, the furniture was beat up, the lightbulbs looked to be no more than 25W and the bathroom was postage size with no ventilator fan. This is the place to stay if you want to really appreciate the service and accomodations at other casino/hotels in the area.

Top notch!

We visited Tunica for the first time this year, with a free reservation for a 2-night weekend at the Grand Casino (Veranda) Hotel. We didn't care for the Grand Casino so after one night we hopped down the road and asked if the Horseshoe had space and willingness to comp us a room for the second night - they did, so we moved. The Horseshoe was head and shoulders above the Grand in EVERY WAY. Large, nicely-decorated, clean rooms with sitting areas, several TVs, big bright bathroom, and minifridge. Great room service selection at reasonable prices. Great breakfast in the buffet (comped to us). Casino was bustling even on a Sunday night! Lots of fun, many winners, good selection of machines and table games. Security was impressive -- they even escorted us through the casino when we went for breakfast with our young child. Check-in staff was friendly and competent (sent a crib up immediately on request). Bellhops were friendly and attentive. Valet was quick to bring the car around, even when checkout traffic was heavy. All in all a great experience (even though we left with a little bit less cash than we arrived with). Next time we go to Tunica we will definitely head straight for the Horseshoe.

I love this place!!!!

I have been going and staying at the Horseshoe in Tunica since around 1995. I have stayed in the hotel 10-20 days a year since. I have always had good service with the very clean rooms. I think they are great with comfortable beds, tvs (even in the bathrooms), and plenty of space. The buffet has plenty of foods from which to choose so you must like something there. Jack Binion's Steakhouse and Naw'leans are both great places to dine. I have always had great customer service.

Recently, I do think there should be more at the cashier places so it can be speedy. I wish the ATM's would let you get more than $500 at a time like it use to be before Harrah's took it over. However, all in all, I love this place....just loosen the slots a bit more....Cathy

We stayed here at the Horseshoe in January of this year for my birthday. The room for one night was over a hundred doller's, the employee's were rude, and the buffet was over priced, unless your a high roller that spend's lot's of money at this casino, the employee's seem's to not notice you. I was on one machine for nearly 2 hour's, and never not once did a waitress come and ask if I wanted a drink. I will not be staying at this motel again.

My Wife and I were looking forward to our Holiday. We had heard that the Horseshoe was a great place to gamble and had a nice Hotel. We had stayed at The Grand on numerous occasions and always were satisfied. But upon our friends urging we booked the Horseshoe. What a mistake. I will not belabor the details except to say that we arrived fairly early in the day to be told at the checkin desk that there were no Non-Smoking rooms available in the Hotel, I insisted on a non-smoking room as my wife has asthma and cannot tolerate the smoke. We had reserved a Non Smoking Suite but I offered to accept any Non-Smoking room. Again I was informed no availability. Meanwhile at the check-in station next to us at least three persons were assigned Non Smoking rooms. I was offered a smoking room even though I had clearly requested non and even explained my wife's medical condition at the time of reservation. I offered to wait for a no show. or cancellation. We were told that we would not be offered a Non Smoking room under any condition. We ended up leaving without a room and without a refund. We had prepaid, and are still waiting for a refund.. A Horrible Experience - never again!

We spent two days at the Horseshoe on Aug of 2005. I can easily say this was the worst hotel stay I have ever had at a casino or resort area.

The staff we encountered are, with only one exception, the rudest, most ignorant, non customer-focused we have EVER encountered anywhere. The 24 hour buffet was overpriced, the food bland and tasteless, the staff was mostly interested in talking to each other and ignoring their customers. I found hair in my food, there were numerous flies buzzing around the seafood/crawfish. We had our food for 5 minutes before our drinks arrived.

The room was acceptably clean. There is no WiFi access, and no one at the front desk even knew what a "WiFi Hot Spot" was. Once I explaned what it was, the desk clerk offered that "this is a casino - you should be here for fun, not business". Indeed. Unacceptable not to have some sort of internet access at a resort hotel, when it can be found in most these days.

The pool closes at 8 pm - unacceptably early in my book. No activities for children of any sort.

We will NEVER return.
