A Night to Remember

from A TripAdvisor Member
Monmouth Plantation 4Star Hotel in Natchez, Mississippi, lives up to the wonderful reviews.
We had only to travel a short distance to find award winning accomodations. We chose Rm 49-it was "A Night to Remember-A True Get Away". As we arrived on the grounds, immediately we were aware of the geographical setting in center of the southern city, but one has the sense of being in the country, far removed from the sights and sounds of city life. Arrival to departure the staff was attentive to assure our stay was nice.We were pleased that there was a restaurant on the grounds. Monmouth Restaurant's Chef Lanny, culinary skills delighted our taste buds with his special touches and George our waiter made the occasion extra special. Monmouth's gorgeous and spacious country gardens are ideal for resting, reading or simply getting away,it was a birthday gift to pleasantly remember. We settled back to enjoy our comfortable & charming room, relaxed in the jacuzzi, towels, robes & ammenities were great, then we slept like babies in a four poster canopy bed. What more could you ask. . .a delicious Southern breakfast served by Heidi, it was the crowning touch.Hope we can one day return to stay in Room 50, my second choice, anniversary is coming up next!

Absolutely beautiful and peaceful

The perfect place for a wedding. My husband and I fell in love with Monmouth and were married there in the beautiful gardens. The grounds are absolutely exquisite and were the perfect backdrop for our wedding. Everything is maintained with style and flair. My husband and I like to return often for the memories we have made there; we simply enjoy walking through the grounds or over the pond. Every room is different and has different views of the grounds. It's well worth the experience and the staff is so friendly and helpful. It's the perfect place for romantic occasions and for peaceful getaways.

5 Star Escape!

from A TripAdvisor Member
I just returned from a weekend getaway at this beautiful property and found it to be one of the best small luxury hotels that I have ever stayed at. I spent two nights at Dunleith and two nights at Monmouth, and with out question Monmouth is far superior. Dunleith Plantations rooms were worn out and dirty while Monmouth offered 5 Star rooms and quality service to match. I have stayed at the Inn at Blackberry Farm for $550 a night in the past, but I had a better experiance at Monmouth for far less. The property is layed out on 30 beautifully landscaped acres and the attention for detail was present at every turn. I had dinner in the plantations dining room and felt like I owned this house. The food was outstanding and being able to dine in the historic dining room (with original silverware and antique china)was a rare treat. The focus of my trip was to visit several plantation home in the area and experiance southern hospitality, Monmouth delivered both. I will be back...

Heaven on Earth

Monmouth is the most beautiful place I have ever stayed. The grounds are breathtaking. My suite was gorgeous and the service was incredible. My dinner at the restaurant was both delicious and romantic. I would encourage anyone wanting a romantic getaway to stay.

I Love Monmouth!

If you want to stay in the ultimate Antebellum luxury, the Monmouth Plantation is your hotel. I stayed at Monmouth on March 22nd and 23rd, 2005 in Room #21, the Calhoun Room and was so pleased with every detail of my stay. The room was spotless, elegant and comfortable with a queen canopy bed, a sitting area, huge marble bathroom and a verandah outside the door with wicker rockers overlooking the beautiful courtyard below. The grounds are gorgeous with beds of tulips, daffodils, azalea, statuary, fountains and a gazebo overlooking the pond. The Candlelight Dinner was literally the best meal I've ever eaten and the atmosphere perfect. The staff here is welcoming, friendly and helpful. I recommend this hotel with highest ratings! I can't wait to return!

What a wonderful place.....

from SaabDriver
We visited Monmouth on the recommendation of friends to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary- I cannot say enough about the property - from the welcome we recieved.. the diners at night...and the superb accommodation. The setting is wonderful, and perfect for romantic walks. The hotel kindly arranged for us to play golf at the local Country Club and one of our days they even packed a wonderful champagne lunch for us to take on our drive around the other antebellum houses.
Excellent is all we can say about the hotel - we cannot wait to return.

Love this hotel

from Captain_Caveman
We had booked for one night here but ended up staying for two. I love this hotel. We stayed in a room in one of the cottages on the lower floor. We had a lovely lounge, spacious bedroom and bathroom with a patio of our own. The room was very clean and well serviced.

The grounds were lovely and it was an ideal location to visit Natchez.

Breakfast was complimentary and was very good.

All round good place to stay.

Lovely with a drop of sarcasm

from George1960
I stayed two nights in the Riches Suite in the main house, and after thorough research and planning, I had an idea what to expect, and disagree with others who have posted negative comments about this specific room as My expectations were vastly exceeded. This particular suite had two full bathrooms and beautiful furnishings; The house and grounds combine to create a genuine fantasy. The staff is superior to many other places within the class of historic and luxurious establishments. HOWEVER, one thing eclipsed what would have otherwise been the pinnacle of all Southern fantasies combined. The first morning, I sat down in the main dining room for breakfast among several other guests who had already been served. Fifteen minutes passed, and I was beginning to feel awkward sitting at an empty place setting, without so much as a glass of water. I got up from my seat and gently knocked on the door leading to the kitchen. A woman in a Monmouth pullover shirt opened the door, looked at me and said "Yeah?" I told her I had arrived the previous night and didn't know if I needed to check in with the staff or show my room key to verify that I was entitled to be served. She sarcastically replied "Ya sit down. Ya get stuff. That's how it works." Then she let the door swing back on it's hinges, in effect, slamming it in my face. What was served after a few more minutes was average in quality. Because the rest of the staff and the stay itself was delightful, I said nothing about this. I have since become a regular at Dunleith, having stayed there six times after this visit to Monmouth. I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else in Natchez unless Dunleith was completely sold out. Monmouth is a wonderful place, but seems to be resting on a reputation that could be easily eroded by surly behavior, more quickly than the Riches (the owners) would care to acknowledge. I believe this minor ripple was an isolated incident. Nevertheless, it is a puckered seam in what should have been a totally seamless experience.

Wonderful Stay

from A TripAdvisor Member
We just returned from a two night stay at the Monmouth Plantation. We stayed in the carriage house and loved every minute of it. The gardens were beautiful and so relaxing. We spent the most relaxing hour we have had in years in the hammock by the water looking up into the trees. I felt like I was in heaven. Everyone we met was personable and very accomadating. We had room service and it was served on china with silver tableware. The bed was very comfortable and we slept like babies. I will take the memory of the relaxing stay with me to work and when I get stressed I will think back to the beautiful experience we had at the Monmouth Plantation.

Expect a sleepless night

from A TripAdvisor Member
Expect a sleepless night if you choose room number 27. The bed was very creaky and the matress too soft. We had booked three nights, but moved on to the Comfort Suites across the river the next day.
