Can you spare a square??
from MommaDonnaRoom service was not great. They forgot stuff and didn't use common sense in sending utensils and condiments. Ordered three soups and got two spoons.
But our worst complain was the toilet paper. One roll only and no spare. Three days in a row we had to ask for another roll. We finally got a spare, but when housekeeping came, they took it!!!
Loved the Hotel
from HappyvalleydesiWe got the new room I guess. It was HUGE and very reasonable as it was the weekend. So much space! Angled closet and granite tops.
There are 2 sets of elevators to take. One from the street to the lobby and then another from the lobby to the rooms. I loved that concept maybe because I have children and it seemed to be much safer. Also, the valet service is downstairs so I guess they keep an eye on who is going up to the lobby?
Nice Hotel, Great Location, Mediocre Experience
from nminottiThe location was wonderful, extremely close to everything! Lots of restaurants/entertainment options within walking distance and very close to the light rail as well. It is even walking distance to the river.
Getting from the parking garage to the hotel was a hassle due to some passageways being closed off for construction. Same thing with getting from the skywalks into the hotel. Made getting around inconvenient.
The real issue I had with the hotel was their staff. I booked my reservation through AAA online. I called the day before to confirm with the hotel. I was disconnected twice before talking with someone in reservations. When I finally did get someone to confirm, he was very rude and not very competent. Really soured me on the place before I even got there. The staff that I met during my stay were all friendly enough.
Renovations almost done, nice hotel
from 2MidwestGreat Service at the Marriott City Center
from patriciaforestaA nice hotel but not Luxury
from LungfruitA good value for downtown.
from A TripAdvisor MemberI thought the hotel was well priced. I paid $129 for the night, which was a lot cheaper than other hotels downtown -- however, you don't get the ambiance of the other more expensive hotels.
This the fourth hotel I have been in the past week!
from juliebug52Very Comfortable Stay
from MokupuniFanThe restaurant, bar, and services offered by the hotel are all more than adequate. There are two things that make this hotel better than average. First - it's all about the location. You are two blocks from anywhere you need to be in downtown Minneapolis. The light rail is two blocks away and gets you from the airport for $1.50. Need to shop - well, Nicolett Mall is a block away (Marshall Fields, Nieman Markus, Saks, Target, and many more are all a block away). If that's not enough - take the light rail to Mall of America - again for only $1.50. There are some fantastic restaurants and very fun pubs - all within easy walking distance. If you are going to a sports event - you can easily walk to the Target Center or the Metrodome from the Marriott. Second - the staff at the Marriott are SUPER. I cannot say enough about their friendly, cheerful, and welcoming attitudes.
As for the setup of the hotel - yes, you enter the hotel at street level and have to take the elevator to the Lobby on the 5th floor. Different, but I actually found this to be a nice security feature - you cannot get to any of the rooms without walking through the lobby and accessing the room elevators. Inconvenient? Perhaps, but I think some of the other folks writing reviews were looking for things to complain about! The hotel has access via the skywalks to all of the surrounding buildings and you can even walk to within one block of the Metrodome using the skywalk system. Pretty nifty way to get around and quick, also - you can cross the streets without battling cars and waiting for the traffic signals.
Overall, I was surprised by Minneapolis. Not sure what I was expecting, but I left with an extremely favorable impression.
Fine accomdations, bad set-up
from RSVP23There is no pool, but the fitness center has all the equipment necessary, though it's not big. The hotel's biggest flaw is that in order to get from the street to the hotel, you must take one elevator that leads to the lobby, and another set of elevators to get to your room. It is not terribly inconvenient, except when you consider going to the parking lot, which is through another set of elevators/door/corridor which takes a while to get through because of the set-up.
It is a large hotel and the rooms vary in size because of the shape (triangular), but in general, the stay is pleasant and sufficient. The photo is of a view from my window.
Top Local Tips for Minneapolis
Mall of America The Mall of America is a great little tourist attraction if you are already in the area. And there are lots of attraction inside that appeal to kids - amusement rides, store made of Legos, etc. However, if your intention is to do some serious shopping, you will be disappointed. It's a big mall, but there are no stores in it that you wouldn't find in a decent mall in any other city. Bottom line- if you are already nearby it's worth stopping in but don't make a special trip to see this over rated attraction.
Light Rail If you are traveling to downtown Minneapolis from the airport save yourself taxi fare and ride the light rail.
Leave your car at home! The light rail line goes from Downtown to both the airport and the Mall of America with a stop for the Metrodome along the way. With gas prices what they are and a fee to park in hotels this is one city where a car is not really needed. When the weather is nice you can walk around Downtown and if its cold or rainy the walkways are the way to go.
