Can you spare a square??

from MommaDonna
The location was great (some construction out front, but no effect on our stay). Statue of Mary Tyler Moore on the corner. Lobby on 6th floor no problem. Front desk staff helpful and concierge (sp?) Paul extremely helpful. Dining room okay, but could they invest in a box of Lipton decaf tea? Trying to find a non-herbal or flavored tea was like looking for gold. There was one waiter who was very helpful. I wish I remembered his name (I think it was Juan??)
Room service was not great. They forgot stuff and didn't use common sense in sending utensils and condiments. Ordered three soups and got two spoons.
But our worst complain was the toilet paper. One roll only and no spare. Three days in a row we had to ask for another roll. We finally got a spare, but when housekeeping came, they took it!!!

Loved the Hotel

from Happyvalleydesi
Loved the location of the hotel. It is close to the downtown area. We were given the 22 floor. The views of the city were excellent. We went out around 11 and the entire downtown was full of people and lots of police. Safe and fun! The lady at the front desk was very nice and friendly. Morning we went to the Walker Art Museum and then walked back. Easy location to lots of places. The light rail is also close by. But we did not take that. The hotel had lemonade and fresh strawberries in the lobby! Also they kept our luggage as we went out to the museum. The concierge gave us very good directions. Used valet parking here as we did not need the car until afternoon of the next day.
We got the new room I guess. It was HUGE and very reasonable as it was the weekend. So much space! Angled closet and granite tops.
There are 2 sets of elevators to take. One from the street to the lobby and then another from the lobby to the rooms. I loved that concept maybe because I have children and it seemed to be much safer. Also, the valet service is downstairs so I guess they keep an eye on who is going up to the lobby?

Nice Hotel, Great Location, Mediocre Experience

from nminotti
The hotel itself was very nice although the 5th floor was under construction which added a bit of chaos. It was clean and well maintained- the room was very nice.

The location was wonderful, extremely close to everything! Lots of restaurants/entertainment options within walking distance and very close to the light rail as well. It is even walking distance to the river.

Getting from the parking garage to the hotel was a hassle due to some passageways being closed off for construction. Same thing with getting from the skywalks into the hotel. Made getting around inconvenient.

The real issue I had with the hotel was their staff. I booked my reservation through AAA online. I called the day before to confirm with the hotel. I was disconnected twice before talking with someone in reservations. When I finally did get someone to confirm, he was very rude and not very competent. Really soured me on the place before I even got there. The staff that I met during my stay were all friendly enough.

Renovations almost done, nice hotel

from 2Midwest
Stayed here at a great weekend rate. Had a remodelled room. Nicely done and very up to date. Temporary lobby on 6th floor. Nice downtown location. Room clean. No complaints.

A nice hotel but not Luxury

from Lungfruit
I stayed at the Marriott City Center in the first week of August for a conference. I found the hotel to be adequate for my needs (fast weekend business trip) but I wouldn't label this a luxury property. First of all the elevator system isn't really a big but it is a minor nuisance when coming and going alot. The hotel is less than a 10 minute walk from the light rail station. Check-in was pleasant. The room was very spacious and well-kept. I thought the decor was on par with what I expected. I like a room with a coffee maker, iron and ironing board which this room had. The toilet didn't flush when I arrived but the engineer was there in less than 15 minutes and it worked flawlessly after that. The room was quiet and I slept well on the comfortable bed. Housekeeping was less than expected. They left dirty washclothes and glasses in the bathroom and sink and didn't clean the coffee pot or refresh the coffee station. Staff was pleasant and helpful. The property is centrally located and there are decent shopping and restaurants very close by. If I were going to Mpls for pleasure I'd stay at the Marquette but the rate was so reasonable due to the conference that I stayed there.

A good value for downtown.

from A TripAdvisor Member
I wasn't super impressed with the Marriott City Center when I stayed there on June 10th -- but it was fine. I booked an executive suite -- which had a fantastic view -- but the decor was dated, and the room was not as big as it looked in the pictures. No problems with the staff -- the valets were quick and curteous. I don't like how you have to pay $25 for overnight parking... what a ripoff.

I thought the hotel was well priced. I paid $129 for the night, which was a lot cheaper than other hotels downtown -- however, you don't get the ambiance of the other more expensive hotels.

This the fourth hotel I have been in the past week!

from juliebug52
Ok so you do have to go up an elevator to go to the lobby? The had a chocolate fountain with fresh strawberries, pineapple, marshmallows and sponge cake plus chocolate chip cookies to ease the wait till checkin. I just wished it had taken longer but I did go back!. My room was exceptionally comfortable. It is not very often that the bed is as comfortable as my bed at home but this one was. I was here for a conference and I thought the food was great. The spilit elevators could be a little confusing and the triangle layout is different. Sometimes you just have to think. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful.

Very Comfortable Stay

from MokupuniFan
I recently spent four nights at the Marriott Minneapolis City Center. I had a very comfortable and enjoyable stay - my room was good sized, immaculately clean, and the staff was exceptional. As is typically the case with Marriott - you get a good product at a fair price. If you are looking for a safe, clean, business-oriented hotel - you will be happy with this selection. If you are looking for a fancier hotel - many are available in the area (just be willing to back up your wants with your wallet). In my opinion, the Marriott delivered a safe, clean, comfortable room with friendly, professional service at an equitable price. That's all I ever expect from any hotel.

The restaurant, bar, and services offered by the hotel are all more than adequate. There are two things that make this hotel better than average. First - it's all about the location. You are two blocks from anywhere you need to be in downtown Minneapolis. The light rail is two blocks away and gets you from the airport for $1.50. Need to shop - well, Nicolett Mall is a block away (Marshall Fields, Nieman Markus, Saks, Target, and many more are all a block away). If that's not enough - take the light rail to Mall of America - again for only $1.50. There are some fantastic restaurants and very fun pubs - all within easy walking distance. If you are going to a sports event - you can easily walk to the Target Center or the Metrodome from the Marriott. Second - the staff at the Marriott are SUPER. I cannot say enough about their friendly, cheerful, and welcoming attitudes.

As for the setup of the hotel - yes, you enter the hotel at street level and have to take the elevator to the Lobby on the 5th floor. Different, but I actually found this to be a nice security feature - you cannot get to any of the rooms without walking through the lobby and accessing the room elevators. Inconvenient? Perhaps, but I think some of the other folks writing reviews were looking for things to complain about! The hotel has access via the skywalks to all of the surrounding buildings and you can even walk to within one block of the Metrodome using the skywalk system. Pretty nifty way to get around and quick, also - you can cross the streets without battling cars and waiting for the traffic signals.

Overall, I was surprised by Minneapolis. Not sure what I was expecting, but I left with an extremely favorable impression.

Fine accomdations, bad set-up

from RSVP23
I stayed at the Marriott for about 6 weeks during the weekdays. It is in a convenient location - near many bars, restaurants and shops in downtown Minneapolis. The rooms are clean and accomodating, but the decor seems a bit dated, which isn't a major issue.

There is no pool, but the fitness center has all the equipment necessary, though it's not big. The hotel's biggest flaw is that in order to get from the street to the hotel, you must take one elevator that leads to the lobby, and another set of elevators to get to your room. It is not terribly inconvenient, except when you consider going to the parking lot, which is through another set of elevators/door/corridor which takes a while to get through because of the set-up.

It is a large hotel and the rooms vary in size because of the shape (triangular), but in general, the stay is pleasant and sufficient. The photo is of a view from my window.

Top Local Tips for Minneapolis

Mall of America The Mall of America is a great little tourist attraction if you are already in the area. And there are lots of attraction inside that appeal to kids - amusement rides, store made of Legos, etc. However, if your intention is to do some serious shopping, you will be disappointed. It's a big mall, but there are no stores in it that you wouldn't find in a decent mall in any other city. Bottom line- if you are already nearby it's worth stopping in but don't make a special trip to see this over rated attraction.

Light Rail If you are traveling to downtown Minneapolis from the airport save yourself taxi fare and ride the light rail.

Leave your car at home! The light rail line goes from Downtown to both the airport and the Mall of America with a stop for the Metrodome along the way. With gas prices what they are and a fee to park in hotels this is one city where a car is not really needed. When the weather is nice you can walk around Downtown and if its cold or rainy the walkways are the way to go.
