Extra charge for Hot Tub use!

from rlv
I was looking for a hotel with Hot tub, lounge, pool and skyway connection - in that order. I thought this hotel had it all. Was I wrong! It was an ok hotel - not at all worth the $168 + parking per night that I paid. I didn't find listed on any website that the hot tub would be an extra charge. I didn't realize that I would have to "ask" if there was an extra charge to use the hot tub. I wouldn't stay here again. There are much better hotels for more than $50 cheaper in MPLS.

Nice Place to Stay

from SEGMN
My boyfriend and I stayed at the Hyatt Valentine's night. It was a nice hotel with great service. We requested champagne flutes and a chiller upon check-in and it was delivered to our room 15 minutes later at no charge. The beds are amazingly comfortable, I didn't want to get up in the morning. The hotel is a couple blocks from "Block E" and close to many of the bars and clubs we frequent downtown. There are also many great restaurants within walking distance including Manny's Steakhouse and Oceanaire Seafood Room which are both on the second floor of the Hyatt. We had a great night at the Hyatt and would return in the future.

Not up to Hyatt standards

from lsjaeger
This Hyatt is long overdue for a makeover and quality control check. My original room rate was $149 and I re-booked it a few days before my stay for $89 - way cheap for a Hyatt and that should have indicated something.

Upon check-in, my original room preference requests were disregarded. I requested a "non-connecting" room, and when my key was handed to me, I remembered to ask, and found that I had been given a connecting room. Hotel occupancy that night was 11% so it was quite easy and quick to re-assign the room. Unfortunately, I did not confirm that my room was no-smoking because when I arrived at the room, it smelled like stale smoke and ashtrays were everywhere. Way too late after a long day of travel to go back downstairs to get yet another assigned room.

Although the carpet looked relatively new, the sitting chair fabric looked worn and was stained. No matter what I did with the heat/fan settings, heat was not meant to be for that room.

Yes, the bathroom was small and the shower had the new Westin-like curved shower rod that is supposed to keep the shower curtain away from you, however, these shower curtain liners are plastic, way too long, and run partly along the bottom of the tub. A used bandaid was on the floor under the counter in the sink area - yuch. And, the sink/counter area outside the bathroom was not fully enclosed and part of the bedroom - more like a motel.

The hotel advertises high-speed internet. It was wireless, and if you don't have a wireless card, requires that you go back downstairs to get an adaptor (might have been nice if they mentioned it upon check-in). I did go back down to get the adaptor which was a wasted trip as the connection was awful, kept dropping, and I finally used dial-up.

The bed was extremely comfortable, room service quick (11 % occupancy so it had better be), and room service food very good, food arrived as ordered, although the room service menu was fairly limited

For Business Travelers

from GFKelly
This hotel is near the Minneapolis Convention Center, and not terribly close to much else downtown, and it seems designed for business travelers.

Why? Maybe it was the $4 bottles of water available int he room. The other food and drink were similarly priced for those who are expensing their trip, not paying for it themselves.

The biggest sin that this hotel commits is the bed. The sheets are not fitted, so if you toss and turn even a little bit, you end up sleeping on a bare mattress. OK at the Motel 6, but not the Hyatt.

Great Hotel!

from gbwafamily
I thought the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis was a great hotel! The staff were very helpful and polite, also very efficient. Our room was fantastic! We booked a room through the hyatt web site. Got a king bed, non-smoking, parking, and breakfast package at a great price. Our room was very clean and comfortable. The whole hotel was neat and clean. The only negative would be that there was no hot tub.

Tired and Old

from southamericantourist
I'm a frequent business traveller and have stayed at various Hyatts around the country. Unfortunately, this one is old and looks its age.

The first clue was the walkway from the parking lot to the lobby--lots of old dingy hallways, strange empty spaces, flickering flourescent lights, and worn carpets. The second clue was the lobby/reception desk, which had self check-in kiosks! i just left the airport, i don't want to feel like i'm back in one.

The room itself was pretty spacious and had a nice view of downtown. The bedsheets, however, were extremely rough and uncomfortable, and the bathroom old though clean. Overall, I would not expect this to be a 4-star property.

Renovations Overdue...

from tlparks
Check in for 2 night priceline bid was slow and tedious, no one taking charge to get the self service kioske up and running (the all flashed "use next terminal"), first room we got had ripped bed skirt and looked like a frat party had been held the night before, smelled icky, second room (we complained, moved) was better but had toilet paper stuffed in a hole above the toilet that was WET and the light above the toilet sizzled as if it were shorting out, third room (moved us to exec floor 22) had a clean appearance but not up to Hyatt standards. Bedspreads dated, furnishings ok, but needs renovating badly. Staff friendly and quickly helped us out when we were disappointed. Location was nice (try Zelo for dinner and Dakota Jazz club right down the street). Spa was nice. Hallways and lobby, dreary.
Wouldn't call this a four star as billed, its 3 at best.

I really liked the Hyatt

from Claire55812
I stayed at the Hyatt Regency on Nicollet Mall last night and I really, really enjoyed my stay. My room was clean, i got cool toiletries (like "massage" soap), and my bed was quite comfortable. The staff was so friendly, they gave me cards with directions for getting onto 35W, I really appreciated that. I love the part of downtown the hotel is in, it's very walker-friendly, with lots of cafes and restaurants nearby. Plus, free computers downstairs, I was able to check my email. I would stay there again. The only complaint is this "closet" or wardrobe in my room was locked or something, so I could not hang up my blazer. Big deal.

Shocking bad

from Dublinboy_9
An absolutly shocking bad hotel. It does the HYATT brand no favours and there are better hotels at similar prices in the city. In fact, still amazed a year on how bad it was felt I had to write. Please don't stay here, you'll hate it.

Decent hotel - But not Great

from nycmode75
I was in Minneapolis in August of 2005 for a business trip. I stayed at the Regency for 4 nights, given that the convention I was attending was held here.

Overall the room was clean. I am not sure what other folks are saying about the rooms being dirty but in my case it was pretty clean, and when I visited other rooms (where my colleagues/friends were staying) it seemed to be all in pretty good condition.

The sink/closet area was especially clean and spacious. However, the bathroom was pretty small. The shower area is too close to the toilet and could have been much bigger, considering the room in general was pretty big. The bathroom could have been cleaner too, but it was in satisfactory condition.

The beds were quite comfortable and the sheets were fairly clean, though it was apparent that they didn't really change it much during my stay. At least it was clean the day I arrived.

The one problem I had with the room was that the climate control was crazy. It was either too cold or too hot, and even the non-smoking rooms smelled a bit like smoke. I think that's because the hotel is just old and even though the lobby was nice, the rooms were not as well kept over time as the main reception area. Even though I jacked the A/C temperature up - it still felt like a constant 65 degrees in the room, with a strong draft (despite me lowering the air to minimum). So basically I froze to death every night. When I turned the air off, the room got very stuffy and warm, so it was hard to find a good balance of air.

The one big plus of this hotel is definitely its vicinity to the downtown area. Nicolette Mall (where the hotel is) has a lot of shops and restaurants. But the restaturants in the hotel are the biggest pluses. Manny's Steakhouse is amazing (expensive though), and the Oceannairre Seafood joint is outstanding (also expensive - bring your corporate card!!). 2 great restaurants in the hotel, plus good room service food makes it a good dining hotel.

But keep in mind, the rooms are decent but not up to the standard of a Hyatt Regency. It reminded me more of a Doubletree-level hotel, hence in that respect it was a bit disappointing. And don't eat at that hibachi restaurant (Ichiban) across the street - the food is bad compared to the price you pay (and isn't very authentic).

Top Local Tips for Minneapolis

Jazz & Gourmet fare The Dakota is a jazz club and gourmet restaurant on Nicollett Mall. It absolutely delivers, in terms of top-notch service, terrific American-fusion cuisine and live jazz.

Lots to do Check out the comedy "Triple Espresso" while in Minneapolis, it's at a theater just down the street & very funny! The desk has easy directions to the Mall of America (either by the light rail or by car) not too hard to get to from the hotel. If you want to order pizza the desk had a convenient list of places to order from.
