Things to see in Michigan, USA Michigan is as large as the United Kingdom. It will take you approximately 6-7 hours to drive from Kalamazoo, Michigan to the Sault Ste. Marie Locks in Upper Peninsula Michigan, which borders Canada. Upper Michigan has alot of forest, so be prepared to see alot of trees! But the lakeshores are stunning and worth it. Where ever you go there is something to see or do. When eating out, service is fantastic, but be prepared to be rushed with your meals, especially if there are more than two courses! They do not wait until you have finished the first course to tell the chef you are ready for your main meal. They bring it out while you are eating your starter course! They haven't quite sussed out civilised service yet, but fast they are great at. But there was one or two restaurants which had. Let them know at the beginning that you don't want your main course served while you are eating your starter.
