Excellent Business Hotel

Last week The firm I work for had a business convention at Hyatt Dearborn. I did not have much time to use all the facilities such as the pool, spa, etc.. but did spend countless hours in the conference rooms and receptions halls for meetings and cocktails. For the last 3 years I have travelled extensively on Business trips and have attended numerous different hotels with conference rooms and receptions halls. Let me tell you that I was very satisfied with the way they set up the conference rooms and on the same token the staff but that was there helping us out during my meetings. The rooms were nice and large however i found the bathroom to be a little small for such a large hotel. That was my only issue with This hotel. Besides that we enjoyed a ravishing buffet catered by the hotel restaurant which was excellent and refined food. I had the chance to go swimming on my last day for about half an hour and was really surprised by how spacious and clean the pool was. Good job to the pool staff. I would definitely recommend this hotel to Businesses or firms looking to have conventions or cocktail parties.

Great service

from curlycat
We stayed for 3 nights at the Hyatt last month whilst visiting our son in the area. The room, beds, bathroom etc were all absolutely fine without being outstanding. This is a very large hotel, with an impressive and very clean and spacious entrance lobby.

Pros - the service we got throughout the hotel was exceptional. Restaurant staff, gift shop staff, receptionists, security staff were all very friendly and professional - this was a real high point. We had a problem with our car on the car park when another guest damaged it in a minor bump and the security staff had it all dealt with before we even got up. Breakfast in the bistro was very good indeed.

Cons - whilst we were there neither the Rotunda bar nor Guilios restaurant was open and this was a real disappointment. It really reduced dining options and, whilst we did have an evening meal at the Bistro, it was not very good and I got the feeling that the kitchen staff were a bit out of their depths serving evening meals.

All in all we had a good stay at the Hyatt, but it would have been much better if all the facilites had been available.

Had enough with Hyatt

Working for a major automobile manufacture south of Chicago, I travel quite frequently to the Dearborn area. We have an account with Hyatt, and get substantial discounts. Up until my past three stays with Hyatt, I've never had a problem. In fact, I've sent letters expressing my satisfaction. Now, I'm an angry consumer. As always I've enjoyed the proffesionalism of the Hyatt hotel staff yet, there has been nothing but mistakes and assumptions made by the staff over my past three visits. One, I asked for Internet service which Hyatt claims the provide in every room, not true. When I arrived I was greeted with a smile and friendly service as usual but, In my room I noticed there wasn't any cable hook-up. I called down to the front desk and they assured me that the problem would be fixed. Two hours later I was calling down to find out what was going on. The staff said they would have someone up to my room, two hours after I decided to order dinner, still no internet service! I even asked the waiter to help me out, forget it, the service tech never came! Two, my second stay. Check-in no problem, unfortunately when I tried to take a nap after a long drive (5 Hours) I needed to get some sleep. I didn't get that. The staff came to the door three times. The first two times I was so out of it that I didn't get up. The third time I had to answer the door. There were two Managers at the door asking if I was going to stay another night? I hadn't paid for it. Huuhhh! I just checked-in! Sorry the staff said and walked away without any explaination. I was up and wasn't going to get any sleep so I decided to order dinner. The order taker answered as they usually did... with some other guys name! Noooo this is Mr. so-and -so, "...ohhhh ummm ok, I'll call the front desk to make the correction." Fine. After dinner I called down to get a wake-up call for 6am, I never got it! I was late for my meeting! Let me tell you, telling your customer that you didn't get a wake-up call from the Hyatt staff is like telling your teacher the dog ate the paper!

Not Happy!

Central Station Location

I agree with almost all of the other reviews. This hotel is truly well done! Although my room was smaller than most, it was very clean, and well lit and functional. I stayed during the NAIAS (auto show) and it snowed my first evening. The valets were great, they brought the car up with the heat, seat heaters, and rear defroster on high. They also removed the snow from ALL the windows.

I would gladly stay here again.

btw I used biddingfortravel and Priceline to get a great deal!

Get a Smoking Room When You Book a Nonsmoking Room

from A TripAdvisor Member
I booked a nonsmoking room for two nights and was provided a smoking room, complete with ashtray and the stench of chain smoking guests. I called the front desk and was informed that there were no other rooms available. I explained that I could not sleep in this room with the stench. She offered to bring in an ozone machine. I declined and asked if she could find me a different hotel nearby. She said they were all booked (how did she know that off the top of her head?). When I kept persisting, she finally relented and miraculously found me a nonsmoking room. The only positive was the front desk provided me a couple of free breakfast buffet vouchers for the mix up.

d Do It At The Hyatt

from boomer93
I stayed at this hotel for a friend's wedding, which was held at the hotel and it was very nicely done. Food was good, waiters were a little huffy, but everything was beautiful. A block of rooms was reserved for guests at a decent rate. My room was beautiful, with a separate vanity outside the bathroom, which is always a nice touch. No exhaust fan in the bathroom, but other than that, it was perfect. Bed was triple sheeted, and the pillows were extra comfy.

Not up to Hyatt standard...

from A TripAdvisor Member
Despite its brand name, this Hyatt Regency is far from being a decent 4-star hotel. The bathroom is full of problems from not having enough counter space for guests to put their personal bathroom materials, to no bathtubs in the shower area. This made showering very troublesome, as water would keep flow below the shower curtain and onto the floor tiles.

The business center is not regularly opened, making internet access (for guests without a personal computer) a bit of a pain. Fortunately, the concierge was more than willing let me use their computer for the internet whenever I wanted. A problem solved, but still...

The staff working at the reception were okay, although I felt that they were not most polite hotel workers I have encountered. Their attitudes came off slightly rude and indifferent.

Other than those, the interior design of the hotel is up to par...

Wonderful hotel

from Tronunit
Just returned from a June 17-19, 2005 stay. What a wonderful hotel. I was originally going to stay at the Ritz Carlton, but after reading trip advisor comments decided to try the Hyatt instead. I was not disappointed. From the front desk staff, valet and even gift shop employees; all were helpful and exceptionally friendly. I even saw the valet "running" to get my car whenever I needed to leave the hotel.

One tip is to book your stay on a weekend that does not hold conferences. The rate goes down dramatically. I received a room for $70.00 through Priceline. Since there are only two 4-star hotels in Dearborn, you will most likely get the Hyatt (the other is the Ritz) At check-in I inquired if the hotel was full and then asked in a friendly way to upgrade me if they felt in a good mood. So, for $70.00 I received a deluxe room that is 3X the size of the standard room.

I had a chance to see the standard room as well that is about 500 SF. Nicely decorated but the restroom is rather small. The deluxe room is also nicely decorated with a firm bed, a mix of feather and synthetic pillows, a marble minibar with sink and large(r) refrigerator. The restroom is very large with an 8ft, double sink counter. The bathtub is nothing exceptional and is similar to one in any standard hotel. There is also a nice glass table with four chairs in the sitting area. A 27 inch TV in Armoire, writing desk and large glass tables flanking both sides of the bed.

The fitness room has five treadmills and two elliptical machines and one stairmaster. There is a lat pulldown and bench press with some free weights. Towels are provided. The pool is just a splash pool more suitable for kids. Since it is small and oval shaped, there's no hope for swimming laps as an adult.

The common areas are beautiful and fitting for a 4-star hotel. Several dining options but if you're on a budget, the cafe serves sandwiches and breakfast (with Starbucks Coffee) at an affordable price.

The hotel is central to many attractions. However, I would caution against a trip to the Fairlane mall which sits next to the property. The store selection is dreadful (many stores are going through mergers, so stock is limited). More importantly, the mall has had many problems with theft. They imposed a 5:00pm or 6:00pm curfew so that youth under the age of 18 cannot enter the mall without a parental guardian. This should tell you something about the desirability of shopping there. Stay away.

Great for families going to Henry Ford

from AZFamilyOf4
Our family stayed here two nights and enjoyed it greatly. We got the Henry Ford package which was a great deal including tickets and breakfast at the Bistro. The front desk personnel were very helpful with directions and any other info I needed. We enjoyed being able to walk over to the mall to eat or just check things out. We would definitely stay here again.

s Best Hotel

from loulatch
I recently stayed at the Hyatt Regency Dearborn & was amazed not only by the hotel's beauty but also by the level of service I received. (I travel to Detroit quite frequently & do not typically receive adequate service).

As soon as I arrived at the Front Door, I was blown away by the Doorman's kindness & prompt, sincere service. He politely assisted my wife & I out of the cab & into the hotel & directly to the Front Desk. It was pouring rain in Detroit & we hadn't brought an umbrella, as it sunny & nice in Savannah, GA when we left. When we got to the Front Desk - he introduced my wife & I by OUR NAMES (which was amazing as we hadn't even given him our names - he retrieved them from our luggage tags) & politely offered his name & informed us that if there is anything that we would like assistance with during our stay to contact him. Before we had completed our check-in, the Doorman returned to the Desk with an umbrella to utilize during our stay, as the forecast was calling for rain for the next couple of days.

The Front Desk clerk welcomed us with a smile & offered her name as a contact during our stay in the Detroit area.

The hotel was absolutely beautiful. The lobby was very contemporary, but had a warm welcoming feeling as well. The room was very spacious, nicely decorated, and very clean.

The service from the staff the entire 3 day stay was amazing. In fact, the Hyatt has a "lobby Greeter" as they referred to it as, who serves as a point of contact 24 hours a day. WOW!

I definitely recommend this hotel over all others in the Detroit area.

Hyatt Regency Dearborn - What a delightful place!

from GavinBirch
I recently stayed at the Hyatt in Dearborn. I've begun (as of 1 month ago) traveling to the Detroit area weekly on business. This hotel is magnificent and I have never experienced such incredible service before. I Stayed on a Tuesday for 3 nights, and felt like a VIP from the moment I checked in at the Front Desk and was greeted by a pleasant clerk with a warm smile, to the moment I left, and the friendly doorman gave me very thorough directions back to the airport.

The lobby is exquisite, and very nicely designed. The staff is extremely friendly. They go out of their way to offer assistance to you during your stay. (this is not typical of Detroit area Hotels). Additionally, there are 2 very good restaurants in the hotel, which are priced very inexpensively, the Bistro on 2, which serves American cuisine, and Giulio & Sons, which is frequented by Dearborn locals. (imagine that - a hotel restaurant that attracts local diners).

There is so much to do right around the hotel. The Henry Ford Museum/Greenfield Village is located less than a mile away. Furthermore, the hotel is located right next to a fantastic mall, which has a brand new Bally's health club in it, and a world-class movie theatre.

THIS IS TRULY A BEAUTIFUL PROPERTY! This hotel has it all! If you're traveling to Dearborn / Detroit, I recommend this hotel and I've stayed at quite a few of them.

The Hyatt Regency Dearborn blows away its competition easily topping the Westin Airport & The Dearborn Inn: 2 other hotels that I've stayed at during my Detroit visits.

The Westin isn't near anything, which makes it very boring & you feel like you're sleeping on the tarmac of the main Northwest terminal. The Dearborn Inn is so historic that the rooms literally feel like they were updated in another time period.

Top Local Tips for Dearborn

Historic Baseball at Greenfield Village If you are traveling to Dearborn in the summer, be sure to take in an historic baseball game at Greenfield Village. The Nationals and La-De-Dahs play almost every weekend in the summer. A live band plays during the game and an announcer provides very humorous commentary. It's a wonderful way to spend an afternoon!

Motown If you have a few extra hours, be sure to visit the Motown Museum, the original home of Motown Records. It was a wonderful step back in time, and was only about a 20 minute drive from the hotel.

Have accurate maps You need to have a good map to navigate around the construction in the Detroit/Dearborn area.Need a good map to find the Hyatt as well.
