Top Local Tips for Woburn

Bring your GPS Getting around in Boston is horrendous. It takes a long time to get from points of interest and many of them have very limited hours (i.e. 9-5). I would suggest you rent a car rather than rely on public transportation if you have any walking problems---Boston is NOT a "walking town" for those who are unaccustomed to it--hot in the summer, cold in winter and T stops are spread apart and not always near attractions. If you plan to rent a car, make sure you have a GPS system. This is a tough town to drive in but is "do-able" with a GPS and plenty of money for parking--average day rate is about $20 per day and about $15 after 5 p.m.

Charlie Card while we were here, we drove to the Wellington Station and parked (all day parking was only like $3 or so), and took the train into boston. It was all quick and hassle free. However, we encountered a very nasty, miserable MBTA employee. She was rude, and very, very unhelpful. We wanted to buy a Charlie card, to save some money on the trains. She pressed some buttons on the machine and ended up getting us a Charlie ticket, which is more $$ and not what we wanted. Upon telling her this, she replied nastily "well that's not what you asked for", even though we were quite clear in saying "Charlie card" and not "ticket". She refused to refund it or help us in any way otherwise. So, my advice is, buy that thing somewhere else if you can! Or else, be very careful when asking the MBTA agents for help.
