Historical Traveller Reviews of Boston Marriott Quincy Hotel

t mind being out of Boston

from EwokCrazyLegs
Stayed in the Quincy Marriott last July for a week whilst on a trip to the USA.

The hotel was very clean, quite grand looking and friendly staff. There was a a la carte restaurant, a restaurant in the bar (served lovely steaks) and if you wanted to grab some breakfast in a hurry, there was a Starbucks. There were also fresh warm cookies in reception as you came in of an evening which was great. There is also a gift shop within the hotel with holiday gifts, maps, cigarettes and snacks.

The rooms were very spacious, clean and the bathroom was of a good standard.

There is a swimming pool and gym area too which was nice and there was a jacuzzi.

There were a few cons too though- I can see that this hotel is ideal for business travellers as it is out of town, but when on vacation, it was a little bit too remote, next to the motorway (not noisy at all by the way) and there was nowhere to walk or sunbathe if the weather was nice. You have to get in the car to go anywhere.

Somewhere I must recommend is Boston Harbour to go to in the evening for dinner- it is a lovely harbour with loads of restaurants and bars and at sunset you get a great view of the sunset and Boston skyline. There is also an outdoor nightclub there.

It was a good base to stay at in order to get to the various areas around Boston area, such as Cape Cod and Plymouth rock and you have to remember that you pay more to stay in the centre of Boston so you have to weigh up the pros and cons.

Mixed Feelings

Hotel was neat and clean. The breakfast buffet was excellent. We have stayed here several times while visiting family in the area over holidays. We are familiar with the area. We have made advance requests for foam pillows, double beds, etc..and on at least one occasion the hotel was unable to meet our requests. We did have a bad experience with the front desk over the Christmas holiday. The person at the front desk was rude and dismissive. On another occasion we experienced a language barrier when we requested a rollaway bed and received a small refrigerator instead. The maintenance person delivering the fridge didn't speak english and so couldn't understand our dilema. We brought the issue to the front desk and it wasn't resolved. The attendant in the pool and fitness facility was rude. Stay for the amenities and minimize your interactions with the staff and you'll have a good stay at this hotel.

Boston Weekend at Quincy

from msk50
I stayed at the Quincy Marriott for two nights in March by myself. The room was first class, very clean, and the beds were extremely comfortable. Free parking was nice. My only complaint was that some of the restaurants did not have enough staff and that you absolutely NEED a car to go anywhere. Convenient to the Quincy Adams T station (3 minutes by car), need an extra token to enter/exit the station. Pool was nice.

Very good value if you do not mind staying outside of Boston.

Nice Marriott property

We knew this was an out of the way hotel, but wanted affordable ($90/night) and on the train line. Plus, it was school vacation week, so closer-in hotels were more expensive and full of families - which we wanted to avoid.

I try to stay exclusively Marriott (to get Rewards points) so we got bumped to Concierge level during our 3 night stay.

Room was typically pleasant Marriott, comfortable, quiet. Bathroom was nice and roomy (may be different on non-Concierge floor). $9/day internet was expected, but still is a rip-off, particularly for non-wireless.

Gym facility was excellent. Free weights, machines, elipticals. Seems Marriott is upgrading from the old 1970's era "gyms" in many properties. Pool was nice when empty of kids/families.

Staff was great; friendly and helpful.

There was a convention of Narcotics Anonymous members at the hotel the same weekend. It was a loud, boisterous group and we didn't receive any prior notice they were there the same weekend; it was a strain on the facility, but the staff really kept on top of the little things despite the throng.

Definate recommend, but it's not a Boston hotel. The ride on the T is still a bit long and you have to drive to the station in the winter/at night.

Great experience!

This hotel is a little higher class than I normally stay in, but I was staying here with a wedding party. The staff was difficult to communicate with on the phone (language barrier), but once we finally found the hotel, the service was friendly and the rooms were amazing.

Fine Hotel but NOT in Boston

from johndeff
If you have a car ( a must) and seen all the sights in Boston the Mariott is an excellent point to explore Plymouth and Cape Code. The avis car rental in the Quincy is very helpful.

The Hotel is around 1.5 miles from the train but they are helpful and will collect you and your luggage if you give them a call.

The Quincy itsely is a fine hotel a bit remote unless you have a car.

Room are comfortable although not much of a view from the back of the hotel bar the Motorway.

GYM and Pool look nice but never got to try them out.
Staff in general looked a bit disinterested and never over helpful.

Bar in the Hotel was very dissapointing..........NOT AN IRISH BAR.Staff in the bar were very over worked with one waitress (stressed out) overseeing the entire bar.No atmosphere bar the draft from the back door.

PS the food in the bar was very good.

General impression needs a car and a reliable shuttle service too and from the train.

Too remote even to see quincy unless you have a car or a shuttle.

Nice place to stay

It is your typical Marriott. Yes, it is a little outside of Boston but we planned on using the Beantown Trolley and they pick up/return at the hotel. Our room was clean and the staff were courteous. It was easy to find and convenient for us. We would stay there again.

Wonderful hotel, need a car

from travelerer
Being a former Bostonian, I felt that it was not necessary to stay downtown and pay the price. I opted to stay at the Quincy Marriott and save a few dollars. First off, rent a car. The walk to the train is 20 minutes for someone in shape. The walk back is very steep. There were no taxis at the train station for a full hour. The hotel was wonderful. no complaints, the bed was unbelievable. If you have a car, don't waste the money staying downtown. I was fortunate to have friends come and pick me up for the most part, but there was one instance at the train station I could not believe No bus to the South Shore Plaza for a full hour and no taxi in sight. Beware

Lovely hotel but too far from Boston

from sarach
I stayed here for three nights in the last week of May 2005. The hotel itself was what you would expect from the Marriott chain. The rooms were clean and spacious, large sized bed, coffee/tea maker and internet access (at extra charge). The indoor pool is rather small and always busy no matter what time of day. The fitness equipment is good.

The biggest downside of my stay and the reason why I would not recommend this hotel to those wanting to sightsee Boston is that it is a 20 minute walk to the subway staion on rather secluded quiet roads. As a single traveller I took taxis at night time and It cost at least $5 including a tip for a trip to the station which is about 3/4 of a mile away.

nice, but out of the way

from andrewindiana
We enjoyed our stay at the Marriott Quincy but I will caution you on a couple of things. First of all, they lead you to believe that the nearest subway station is within walking distance - it's 1/2 mile and you have to walk on the road, there's no sidewalk leading to the station. If it's cold or after dark you really shouldn't be walking. It's about a 25 minute ride into the city on the subway which wasn't too bad. It's a lot better than driving because there are twice as many cars in Boston than there are parking spots. Definately purchase a visitors pass if you plan to use the subway as your primary means of transportation around the city, it will save you money and the headache of waiting in line to purchase tokens or to put money on your subway card. Also, the hotel bar closes at midnight and there is nothing around to go after that. I would suggest staying at a hotel in Braintree which is the next exit south of Quincy and the next stop on the subway line. More hotel, restaurant & shopping choices.
