Forget about it!

I have stayed at the Captains Lodge over the years and it was always clean, roomy and pleasant. During the last few years it was taken over by new owners who have neglected it sorely. The rooms are now dingy, dirty and musty smelling. I was asked when I checked in if I had any special room requirements aside from getting new towels each morning. I said "no," not knowing that this meant they didn't make the beds! This I found out the next morning. My friends and I were appalled. We will never stay there again nor recommend it to anyone.

This place should be called The Last Resort. Our room was just plain dirty and smelled like mold, sweat, and booze. We paid good money and were disgusted with facilities and service. Restaurant was actually good, but sleep in your car before staying at the Captain's Lodge.

Could do better

The owners were unfriendly. No coffee in the room, you could buy one from the cafe on site, but that doesn't open in the afternoon. The cafe for breakfast was poor, try Sugar Magnolias in Gloucester for a much better breakfast.
The place had a run down look about it with a general lack of maintenance.
Pricing was random, $95 for one night $105 for the next. The sheets were clean, as was the pool. Won't be staying here again. Other places in nearby Rockport receive better reviews.

The only nice thing about this place is the sheets were clean. The carpet was stained horribly, windows were so dirty you couldn't see out of them. There was no complimentary coffee. You had to go to the onsite diner and pay $1.50 for one cup. The room was musty smelling. Would NOT stay there again.

My original plan was to camp at Cape Ann Campsite but after several mishaps & a horrific thunderstorm, I was relieved to find a warm & comforting place that still had rooms available.
The rates were good, the pool is beautiful (even for a midnight swim :)& the location was just right; half way between beautiful downtown Rockport & historic Gloucester. If you're planning on eating in their diner for b'fast, I suggest getting there early as it seemed to fill up fast. Thanks for a great stay- I'll be back :)

we have stayed at the "Captain's Lodge" many times over the years,we always start our holiday with a night or two before we go off on our travels. Have always found the rooms extremely clean and comfortable. In fact we are coming over again this September and intend to stay again.
