Nice hotel

from jawms
Lovely hotel, helpful staff. Called at the last minute for an early July stay and was given a very good rate. We moved from another hotel and were pleased with the bright, cheery room. We were allowed to check in at 11:00 a.m.! My teenage son liked the location across from the Galleria, where we also ate several times for inexpensive breakfasts, etc. Their summer special with a free river cruise, free ice cream, free shuttle service and free bike use was great! Room was very nice, we'd stay their again for the convenience and room/price value.

Not impressed

from s*trip
I had read all the reviews and planned to stay at this hotel for our five night stay during a recent trip to Boston. When we first checked in we were given a room that was all ready occupied. Then they had a hard time finding us a room with the view of the river as we had reserved months earlier. The rooms do have queen size beds but the room we had was very small. The wall paper was coming off the walls in the bathroom and we found a live bug on our bed. My son found another bug in the hallway. The decor is somewhat contemporary but nothing special and actually kind of boring. The staff that we dealt with were all kind and helpful I think the hotel is just getting a little dated and needs some sprucing up. We left after out first night there. It is close to the galleria, a T-stop and the Science Museum.

What a sight.....

Have just returned from a visit to this fabulous city, and our trip was made extra great by the hotel. We were on the top floor and the whole of the Boston skyline was in front of us. We watched the change over the city as the sun came up and down. Great choice of resturants, free ice creams, free bikes, and a shopping mall on hand for us women who" like to shop". Very friendly and helpful staff at all times. The rooms well fitted, very large bed... very large TV....and enormous windows..... Our visit was interrupted at 3.30am one night with a fire alarm going off when the hotel was vacated very efficiently and everyone became very friendly out in the forecourt in their PJ'S. The only down side was climbing the 10 flights back to our room, but by that time the sun was just coming up and the skyline looked wonderful...
So if you are thinking of Boston... try this Hotel even though it's over the river they have a free shuttle service into the city center. All round a really great hotel.

Fabulous family hotel

My two children and I decided not to battle the traffic over Memorial Day weekend this year, and instead decided on a local getaway. At the suggestion of a friend, we made a reservation at the Sonesta. It ended up to be one of the best family hotels we have ever visited. The staff was friendly, and very efficient. Our junior suite room was ready at an early check-in of 10:30 am! The views from our room were memorable. The beds were very comfortable, and the room was quiet. The children loved the sunny and spacious pool. We were given a complimentary 75-minute narrated boat trip on the Charles River. Also complimentary were family bicycles (and helmets). We had a spectacular early-morning ride around the Charles River. There was free ice cream for all in the afternoon.

The location across from the Cambridge Galleria was so convenient. California Pizza Kitchen and Cheesecake Factory right across the street. Davios in the hotel had a great breakfast.

We parked our car for a two-day period for $18. Then we took cabs. Also we could purchase passes for historic trolley tours from the concierge which included early morning pickup at the hotel.

My children never want to head to the Cape again on Memorial Day weekend. They want to make the Sonesta an annual event, and so do I. This is a user-friendly hotel that welcomes children, and people from around the world. There were several weddings being held during our stay. I can see why. This is a place where memories are made!

nice hotel

Was at a conference at the Royal Sonesta 4/24-4/28. In general, a very nice hotel. Excellent & friendly & sincere service from all: front desk, concierge, maid, restaurant. Room very nice, spotless each day, nice view of Charles River. BR clean, functional, a bit small. Bed comfortable; linens & towels excellent. Continental buffet at the conference was excellent (but I don't know the cost as it was included in the conference fee.) The one lunch I had in the lobby restaurant was excellent. Location is very good: 1 mile to MIT, 2.5 to Harvard, 2 to Boston Common, and 3 blocks to Lechmere green line subway. Best to walk in nice weather, cause cabs are absurd ($17 Harvard to Hotel.) Galleria Mall across the street, with nice Italian rest. & Cheesecake Factory. Legal SeaFood 1 mile away.
Minor complaints: hallways a bit dingy and some noise; elevator bells are loud if you're nearby (it was OK, but I was 3 doors down the hall). abit pricey, but I guess typical for Beantown.
Overall: nicer than a Marriot, but not the Four Seasons.

Great hotel

Everything was great in this hotel, with the only exception that they did not have moisturising lotion in the bathrooms (which should be standard in most 4-star hotels).

would return

I just stayed at the Sonesta. They have a nice pool (for the middle of a city), a small, but adequate gym; mod carpet, and are located very close to the Science museum as well as a cute little neighborhood for walking around at night. I would stay there again. Even though the place seemed to be full (and there were lots of kids), everything seemed to run well.

It is a beautiful hotel. They offer rooms with two QUEEN size beds--as a tall family we need this! They do have a free shuttle to some of the city?s major tourist areas. The concierge (not snooty at all) and I chatted about the weather and when I wondered if my flight would be delayed due to snow, she immediately checked the airline's website for me. The rooms are great: central air/heat, iron and board with an outlet IN the closet--no dragging the board around, a clock radio/cd player with a nice jazz cd in it! The view is truly awesome, but I?d say it is a near 10 minute walk to an outdoor above ground T (subway) stop. We took advantage of the location next to the mall for access to CVS drugstore and cheaper evening meals in the food court. Otherwise, there is not much in the neighborhood (except the Museum of Science. If you like science museums you'll love the MIT Museum, also in Cambridge. MIT was really, really fun). For breakfast we ate at the Quincy Market. The hotel has a nice cafe that offers a large continental breakfast (yogurt, danish, fruit, cereal, bagels, juice etc) but it was very expensive --almost $40 for 3 people. Boston?s subway is easy to use. For us, the hotel worked out great and I?d absolutely stay there again.

I will return there!!!

We went there in August 2003. Very great place to stay. Magnific view on the Charles River. We have it for $118.00 CDN with Expedia and have a river view room. What a deal... I recommend this hotel and I will return there without hesitation.

ok, but would probably stay again

stayed here in october 2003, we had a beautiful view of the charles river and the science center. booked it thru travelocity it was $160 plus taxes. very conveniently located to subway station(about a 10 minute walk), galleria mall is huge and had many major stores and food court. fire alarm went off a couple times the night we stayed, front desk was not informed on what was going on. management credited us for parking and gave us a discount for the next time we stay at a royal sonesta.

CBC is superb Cambrige Brewing Company 1 Kendall Sq Building 100 - Great food and Beer

take the T If you are staying for a few days buy a 7 day Link Pass for $15.00 giving unlimited use of the subway .The regular subway fare is $2.00 each way, so the pass works out a cheap way of getting around - if you have any days unused you can generously give it away!!!

Check out the restaurants in Central Square There are many very good ones, with lower prices and better food than you will find in Boston.
