The place to stay!

I was reluctant to stay at Hyatt after reading some of these reviews, but I couldn't disagree with some of you more! The price ($209) seemed a little high at first, but would definitely pay that again.
The staff was friendly, and extremely helpful. The location may be a little furthur away from some spots, but the view totally makes up for it. When we did want to go into the city and Harvard Square, we just requested the shuttle the night before and got there no problem. We then called from Harvard Square and they came and picked us up.
Overall I am overly pleased with our stay. It was the ultimate romantic spot for my husband and I on our anniversary, and we will definitely book again next year.

I would rate this 2.75 filled circles.

Previous stay (years ago) was fabulous. Now? Yuck. Housekeeping did not clean my room properly for the $$$ paid per night, the shuttle is a JOKE (the front desk had to reimburse my taxi fare from the Galleria), and yes the staff seemed to be used to large weddings/typical functions (coffee?tea?). Special needs were a small problem.....

This was a work trip, so I had no choice. But I would never stay here again.

I found it outrageously expensive! Postage stamps from the gift shop were $1.25 for (2) .37 cent stamps, .75 cents for (2) .23 cent stamps. House salad at one of only 2 restaurants in the hotel was $9.00!!! If you ordered room service it was $9.00 for the salad, 18% gratuity and a 3.00 delivery charge, plus tax.

EVERYTHING is at least 8 blocks away. It is 2 buses or a $7.00 cab ride to the Cambridge Galleria Mall.

Room was nice, but cleaning staff were not consistent.

Stay there for 2 nights last week. The room and amenities were great. Our room in 10th floor was big compare to many hotel we visited in New England area, and very clean. However, it was a problem with the hotel shuttle service. The night we arrived we asked at frontdesk if there's a free shuttle to the nearest 'T' (boston's subway) available. The staff at the time said yes definitely and he said if we want the hotel to pick us up when we arrived back all we have to do is just call to the hotel and ask for the shuttle. We thought this was great 'coz we don't need to bother our friend in DT boston to give us a ride right?... Wrong! It was turned out to be completely wrong the next day! When we came to the frontdest to ask for the shuttle next day, another staff said they don't have the shuttle available at the time. We asked when it would be available and the answer was that he don't know! He then suggested us to walk instead of waiting for shuttle that might not 'available' the whole day! He even joked me that we should walk for exercise and thought that we would have fun to do so! It's not!!! It was a raining week during our stay and it not fun to hike down the street during thunderstorm!!! The nearest T station is not close as well as it take atleast 20 min. to walk. BTW, we had no choice but go pick up our umbrella and hike down to the T station. When we arrived back at the station we called the hotel front desk during a heavy rain to ask for a pickup shuttle. The staff said 'we never offer a shuttle to the T station'!!!....

No more Hyatt cambridge!!!

Hyatt, a nice place to stay

I stayed at the Hyatt April 27-30, 2005. The hotel is pretty nice overall, well kept and clean. The elevators ended up being a bit of a problem, as one was broken, and another was reserved at times just for use for people eating at the restaurant at the top of the hotel. The rooms are very clean, and the beds are nice and comfy. The part about the hotel I didn't like was the location. It is very far away from anything. It has the river on one side, and is almost on MIT's campus. It is a half hour walk to a bus stop which could get you near restaurants or shopping. If you don't have a car, or lots of money for a cab, you might want to stay somewhere else. Also, I asked for late check out, and they flatly refused. They couldn't possibly need to clean all those rooms at the same time, and our conference filled the hotel, and everyone left at about the same time. Not very gracious, as I was just asking for an extra hour.

This hotel, overlooking the charles river, has a great view of Downtown Boston.
The hotel is showing signs of aging, but it does have Glass Elevators in lobby, and a lot of open space, nice health center, and they host great luncheons during Mothers Day, Christmas, Easter....etc. The rooms are very average. I would not pay $150-#175 for a room, which is what they are charging normally, but try to find this hotel on discount, or negotiate with them. It is well worth at $100-125 of your money.

NO CAR?
All sorts of public transportation is at least a 20 min walk away.

TIPS:

IF YOU WANT TO PARK YOUR CAR, the hotel will charge you a fee (seasonal) , park it behind the hotel on the street, there is free parking there along the street. No one will tow your car....locals only info.... :-)

FOOD:

Dont dine in the restaraunt on daily basis, the food is not superb, rather, have something delivered from Bertuccis. Its an italian caterer. Very good, and reasonable in prices.

Very nice hotel

I have always had a clean, comfortable room and good service at this hotel. I often get an excellent rate. It is true that it is far from the the metro (the "T"), but we bring our car when we visit. There is a trolley that will take you into Cambridge at certain times of the day. We don't have a late model car, so we park it behind the hotel overnight and save on the valet parking fee.

I could not believe they are charging $170 for this hotel! Poorly maintained, old carpet, dirty bathroom, 'chic' 80s style lobby ... Location is very subpar - far away from the T line. Staff was nice though. Stay somewhere else!

We just returned from our five-day stay at the Hyatt Regency Cambridge. Compared to other airfare/hotel packages on yahoo travelocity, this was a bargin for us. Because we do not stay at hotels much we are unsure how the Hyatt Regency rates compared to others, but for us, we found it "nice." We had a room on the 5th floor facing the St. Charles River. The view from our room was fantastic. The room was comfortable. We had a king-size bed that was adequate. We found all of the staff to be pleasant and willing to please. I was somewhat disappointed in the size of the coffee pot in our room (only 4 cups--2 decaf & 2 regular). The food prices were more expensive than what we are accustomed to in Texas---but the food prices everywhere in Boston were more than what we pay in Texas. Because our daughter lives and goes to school in Boston, she chauffered us around the city. Otherwise, we would have had to walk a distance to get to the "T" from the Hyatt Regency. The doormen were very accomadating to our daughter by allowing her to park her vehicle in front of the hotel while she had breakfast and visted us at the hotel. We enjoyed our stay at the Hyatt Regency. If we return to Boston, we would stay there again.

Rate of $190/night on 10/19/2004 via Hotwire. I stayed in this same property four years ago, and I was less impressed with the facility this time around. First off, my room was a small handicapped room at the end of the hall that was a part of a larger suite. The view was the loading dock, and since I was on the first floor with rooms, I could hear noise throughout night. However, most rooms won't be this bad, so I gave the hotel the benefit of the doubt. The furnishings were dated and some of the wallpaper was peeling off at the base.

The location is okay ... 15-20 minutes waking distance to the Boston College Central T station on the green line. There aren't any restaurants, convenience stores, or coffee shops within short walking distance, so you're stuck paying the high prices for food/beverage in the hotel restaurant.

Bottom line ... if you get a good deal, then go for it, as it's not far from most attractions. However, if the rate is not great, pay a little more and stay in Boston.

Top Local Tips for Cambridge

MIT Restaurants The Stratton Student Centre (on Massachusetts Ave across from the MIT "main" building) has an excellent Mexican food outlet (Anna's Taquiria) on the main floor, and a food court with Thai, Indian and Japanese fast food on the second floor. Good cheap alternatives for those on a budget.

T Fares Bring your dollar bills, as many T stations are freestanding. You'll need two one dollar bills to pay your one-way fare.

Red Sox Tickets If you have the stamina, you can wait in line beginning 4 hours or so before the game for the opportunity to buy tickets at face value, sold by the park. These are tickets season holders have returned for resale. Vouchers are given , one to a person, and you must physically get in line to get one. We arrived at 4pm for a night game and got in about 8pm. It was hot and frustrating, but the only way we were going to get a ticket...paid $27 for decent grandstand seats per person. We did miss two innings because they ran out of tickets and had to wait another hour for management to get more. I don't understand how they do it....but this is an alternative to scalpers, stubhub or ebay for tought to get Red Sox tickets....Bring water and a book for your wait...
