Whenever I'm down in Harvard Square, the Harvard Square Hotel is always first choice -- it's comfortable, reasonably priced, and is a great location (opposite the Kennedy School of Government) close to the T-station.

Top Local Tips for Cambridge

Visit TeaLuxe in Cambridge If you're just wandering around and want to grab a hot drink, stop by TeaLuxe near Harvard Square. The students working there were so friendly and willing to give us tips on places to eat, visit, etc. When they found out we were in town for the Boston Marathon, they wouldn't let us pay for our drinks and said they just wanted to welcome us to Boston.

Jog or walk along the Charles Get up early and take half an hour to go along the Charles and see the rowing crews. Also a longer walk is to the oldest big cemetery in the US - Mount Auburn - further along - but it shuts at 5. Good newsagent in Harvard Square.
