Top Local Tips for Boston
traveling in Southern Argentina If you are traveling to Ushuaia in the winter, do not rent a car. Make arrangements with the hotel. If you like skiing, we recommend you ski at Cerro Castor. The conditions were excellent and the lines at the lifts short.
Glacier Martin, National Park and trip to Halberton to see Penguins My son and I rented a car for a couple of day to do the trips in the title. All three trips were great in their own right and would highly recommend them.
Cheap city tour Look for local buses A and B. For 1.80 pesos per person you get a full tour of the city, including the neighbourhoods where the locals live. To the west, the buses will get to the end of the paved streets and the beginning of the road to the Tierra del Fuego National Park. There they loop around and go the other way up to the end of the city at the eastern edge, on the road that leads to the Cerro Castor ski centre. There the two buses have a 15 minute stop, you have to get off and pay another 1.80 pesos to get back to your starting point (1 and 1/2 hours in all). The "A" bus takes the coastline street and covers the lower neighbourhoods, while the "B" bus takes the streets half-way up the slopes. Although there is obviously no commentary in English or Spanish, you can really get an idea of how large the city is and see the different building styles of the local dwellings. There is only one fare, so just give the driver a 2 peso bill and get the ticket and the change.
