A walking tour of Boston made this hotel a perfect fit! Right in the middle of town and easy access to everything we wanted - we'll be back!

Wonderful Place to Stay

Just spent 3 nights at the Harborside Inn and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Boston for pleasure. Loved the intimacy and decor! Location was great - close to Faneuil Hall, short, easy walk to the North End and wharf, and T stop outside the front door. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We chose an atrium view room based on other comments about street rooms being noisy when the bars closed. We did not hear a thing!

We also took the T from the airport - what a bargain at $1.25 per person - free shuttle from terminal to airport T stop, only 2 stops from airport to Aquarium T stop. Elevator at Aquarium T stop made luggage handling easy. Exited T at hotel doorstop!

Perfectly situated

Perfectly situated for all tourist requirements. A very short distance to Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market. A 10 minute walk to Boston Common. Our room was exactly as described and was very clean and comfortable. We found the hospitality of the Bostonians very pleasurable and would certainly stay here again.

Room at the Inn!

THis is a BOUTIQUE HOTEL! This means: don't expect a gym, room service, concierge service and all those amenities of a high end chain type hotel.

What you CAN expect is a nicely furnished, clean hotel with smaller rooms with charm.Bathrooms are small, but the bath was hot and wonderful, I felt like I was at home. Exceptionally nice reception staff, who are willing to assist with directions and ideas for places to visit. The restaurant downstairs is excellent and the staff is wonderful also. The coffee was wonderful! (I did wish (upon a late check in) that the restaurant had been open later (had to order pizza from Dominos) - but again, this is a boutique. One morning, while I had to go see if my sister was arriving, the ladies in the restaurant, held my table and reheated my food and had a cup of coffee waiting for BOTH of us, when we finally returned - it was cold and rainy, and I appreciated that thoughfulness!

I loved staying here - it was perfect for me, close to Fanuiel Marketplace, Quincy, Aquarium, Freedom Trail - we even walked, yes! all the way to Newbury Street and downtown returning at midnight - very cool, and seemingly safe! The rates were good, and again for a more budget minded traveller, or short term, this is one of the best options going. It is no frills, but decently so. Also right next to a T-stop, so convenient, although I didn't use it. I really liked this place - as a solo traveller on this trip, I felt safe and watched over.
I would return again for the location, the exceptional staff, the price and the coffee!

Almost perfect....

My wife and I stayed at the Harborside in mid-August for 2 nights. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We were able to park our car when we arrived at 11AM, even though our room wasn't ready until later in the afternoon. The parking is in the structure right next to the aquarium, about 2-3 blocks from the hotel, and the structure is well lit and in a busy place. We had no fears about leaving the car for the time we were there.

The hotel is, literally, steps from Quincy Market... go across the street and down a short block and you are there. The North End is a short 10 minute walk away, and most of the Boston sights are within a 10-15 minute walk. Additionally, there is a T stop right outside the hotel where you can get on the subway to go anywhere in the Boston Metro area. In short, The location of this hotel is hard to beat... it is in a PERFECT place for a visit to Boston.

We reserved an interior room based on some of the other reviews on this site. The interior rooms have a window that looks out on an atrium and the elevator lobby on each floor. The room was very clean and quiet, our one complaint is that it was not lit well enough. We tried to keep the blinds on the window open, but due to being so close to the elevator, if we had them open other people could see into our room. My wife called down to the desk to ask for an exterior room, but they didn't have any so we stayed the two nights in the interior room. When she called she asked the staff member at the desk about noise in an outside room and they said really one only should worry about noise if they are there on the weekend, during the week it generally is not very noisy outside the hotel at night.

We would definitely stay at the Harborside again... probably we'll try an outside room next time. :-)

Great location!

Steps away from Freedom Trail and Quincy Market and lots of great dining and shopping. Our room was on the small side, but full of character and charm. Not your usual bland hotel room- this one had a hardwood floor, one brick wall, a pretty armoire and a closet with a door. One weird thing happened- we planned to eat at the hotel restaurant, Margo Bistro, one night but it was all dark and we were told it was closed because the waitress didn't show up. But we had a great meal at another restaurant nearby, and we had a wonderful breakfast at Margo the next morning.

Good Price, Great Location, but...

I stayed at this hotel for a weekend getaway with my wife in January. The hotel is located in a fantastic spot if you want to be close to all the typical tourist spots and there's a subway entrance right in front of the hotel. Room was clean, but the front desk staff was appalling. On Saturday and Sunday morning they were incapable of keeping the coffee carafe full, even when informed it was empty, could distribute the pile of newspapers that were sitting in the corner of the lobby. I don't think it was due to a negative attitude, just incompetence. There's a nice lounge on the first floor, but I can confirm what others have written about getting a room on the street side; many guests were complaining about not being able to sleep until the local bars had emptied for the night....usually 3am. So buyer beware

Friendly, convenient and unbeatable value

As smaller hotels go, this was simply one of the nicest hotels that I've ever stayed in. Interesting rooms, spotlessly clean. Pleasant, helpful staff and a very convenient location just two T stops from the airport and just a couple of hundred yards from Quincy Market. Made my weekend in Boston very enjoyable. Highly recommended.

I just returned from a 5 night stay at the Harborside Inn and really did enjoy myself. The rooms are just great, not your usual cold sterile looking hotel room, especially for the price. Excellent for a little romantc get away. You can't possibly beat the location, they are located right where you want to be when visiting Boston. If you are a light sleeper you might have a problem, it can be a bit noisy to say the least. The noise from the bars can get a little annoying. The service of the staff was adequate, nothing special really. I did have a problem with housekkeeping; came back to my room to take a nap only to find the bed stripped, thinking they would return soon to finish I left to kill some time only to return to a bare bed again. after calling the front desk it still took some time to get the bed made up. The resturant, Margo was excellent, enjoyed the food and the conversation of the chef, very friendly. While not perfect, I would reccommend this Inn and I would stay there again.

If you are a partier stay here, otherwise stay away!

Do not stay in a street side room unless you are staying out till 3am, otherwise plan not to sleep. Local bars are right outside your window and soundproofing is nonexistent. Staff is medicore at best, not sure they understand what the word hospitality means. Location is the only plus , yet with so many other choices in Boston it would not gain my return. All things considered , this hotel goes into my "do not return" book!

I spent a wonderful New Year's holiday at a truly excellent hotel in Boston,the Harborside Inn! The staff went out of there way in making my three day stay a pleasant one. The rooms and the service was first rate. I will most certainly come back to the Harborside Inn in the future! Thanks for a great time!

Top Local Tips for Boston

Wonderful food and drink Many amazing restaurants near to the Hotel: Durgin Park (in Faneuil Market; waitresses were very friendly and did not live up to their reputation of being the contrary), Legal Sea Food (Long Wharf), Giacomo's (North End and definitely worth the wait; if you have the opportunity, do join the line outside the restaurant. It moves quickly. But if there are 2 of you and you choose to share the House Special "Zuppe de Pesce", make sure you are hungry; it is HUGE), Barking Crab (about 5-10 minute walk down Atlantic Avenue), Ye Old Union Oyster House (along the Freedom Trail). For lobsters, eitther get them steamed or boiled; the baked stuffed lobsters are drowned in other types of seafood (prawns and scallops) in some breadcrumb sauce and it drowns the natural sweetness of the lobsters, which is a shame.

Visit JFK Library at UMASS Take the "T" to visit the JFK Library. It's great.

No car needed in Boston! There is absolutely no need to have a car when you stay in Boston. First, navigating the city is difficult because most of the streets are one-way. We missed a turn and it took is 15 minutes to get back to the same spot because we had to go all over the city first. Also, parking fees in Boston are unreasonably high. Had we kept our rental car, our hotel offered a "discounted rate" on parking...but it was still $25 per day! You pay for parking when you leave the garage, so we could have easily paid a ton of money on parking alone. Lastly, everything in Boston is either within walking distance or a short ride on the ultra-convenient T or by taxi. At least you can avoid the stress of driving downtown...I was shaking by the time we returned the car, and I was the passenger! Return the rental car, or take a taxi straight from the airport!
