I stayed here because it was the cheapest hotel around. The rooms are small, and the beds are less than luxurious, but it's okay. One interesting thing about the Milner is that the terrorists who carried out 9/11 stayed here. Creepy

Absolutely horrible

Anybody who is considering staying at the Milner Hotel should think twice.

I made a reservation to stay here about a month before my stay. I arrived in Boston (flew in from Toronto) and took the 25 minute cab ride from the airport and found the Milner Hotel. The receptionist at the front desk said they had no record of my reservation. I gave her a confirmation code, but she said it wasn't valid. I asked to speak with her manager but she said he was not there. After an hour of talking on the phone to my travel agent (and her talking to the receptionist), we gave up and went elsewhere (the Milner Hotel was full, as was the entire city virtually because of conferences in Boston at the time). The only hotel we could find in the city was the Embassy Suites - nice place, but $350 a night!

One month later, I received a charge on my credit card - for a no show charge - from the Milner hotel! I called my travel agent - she called the hotel. They did not return her call (big surprise) until she threatened to fly down and call CNN as this experience was horrible. Finally the manager called back. They had spelled my name wrong, AND had put my reservation down for the wrong month! The manager had to put my travel agent on hold because "the cleaning staff were in a fist fight".

Although the manager did refund the no-show charge and credited my credit card for the difference for one night between the Milner ($150) and the Embassy Suites ($350), it was not worth the hassle and the Milner's rude staff. I suggest to avoid this hotel at all costs. They are unprofessional, rude, disorganized, and above were accusatory to me even though it ended up being their error. Go anywhere else but the Milner.

BEWARE!!! The is the single worst "hotel" I have ever stayed at in 30 yrs of travel. IT is far worse than hotels in Europe, where rooms are often also small, but staff are helpful and polite. This establishment surely does not receive any return business and treats guests like victims, threatening charges to credit card for cancellation yet requiring a signature for additional unauthroized charges at their discretion. Every guest I met while we stayed at the place was either disgruntled, disgusted, or downright livid.
Do your self a favor by never getting near the place. It is remarkable in how incredibly awful an experience it will provide.

Get your room confirmation in writing! We reserved a double by phone. When we arrived they gave us a single. There wasn't even enough room to put a roll-away in the room and, since they had no doubles available (said they were fully booked with a waiting list), we were left without a room the weekend of Head of the Charles when everything full. We were informed that our Master Card would still be charged for one night's stay since we hadn't cancelled 24 hours in advance (if they had a waiting list as they said they possibly re-sold the room and got double their fee!). It was absurd since the mistake was theirs. However our MC company said we had authorized the charge and were liable for it since we had nothing in writing to prove they mishandled the reservation. However the Milner looked scarier than the hotel in Psycho, so actually it was probably worth paying for one night just so we didn't have to sleep there. Avoid this hotel. They are dishonest! I wish I would have heeded the negative online reviews!

The price was great. The rooms were fairly small but very clean, ensuites were clean also. It was so central you couldn't complain. I would recommend it to anyone. I loved the breakfasts, delicious! After reading other reviews, i realise some people are hard to please indeed!!!

Terrible manner to the customer

The manager of this hotel was terrible. Even if we made a reservation in advance, this guy expelled us out of this hotel. This was so terrible experience. This hotel was the worst hotel that I have stayed so far. You should be careful. Additionally, the room was so small and very uncomfortable.

Loud & unacceptable breakfast

The hotel is situated near the center which is very good. I had a room at the front and it was not very quiet. Unfortunately, the breakfast was awful: Self-service, plastic cutlery and dishes, the coffee forced me to drink tea. In sum, if you want to stay near the center for just 2 or 3 day for a reasonable price and care about breakfast then this may be the right choice. Don't stay over your holiday there.

Top Local Tips for Boston

Trains & buses A great city to walk around. The public transport is there if you have to use it. A 7 day ticket costs $15 dollars (US) a great bargain.

taxis only take a cab from the recognised cab line - as you come out of the airport you will be approached by unregistered "taxi" drivers wanting to take you places - best to queue up and take a registered cab.Ask drivers to switch on the meter if they don't appear to do so, and get the meter receipt.

great breakfast/lunch Try Fil-A-Buster right across the street from the State House on Beacon Hill. Luncheonette/diner good food, VERY good prices for Beacon Hill.
