Great hotel, great service, great location

My husband and I stayed at the Copley Marriott on Feb 12th 2005. It was a one night get away from our kids. Our room was very nice and comfortable. We could not hear thru the walls. The room service was terrific. Our bathroom was small but who cares. Our king size bed was extremely comfortable and the sheets etc were fine. We dont have any complaints about this hotel...its a great hotel in a great location.

Second Choice

I always stay at the Westin Copley when I'm in town, but it was full this time. So I opted for the Marriott. It's a busy hotel, with large meetings and conventions. And it shows. The busy loby is hectic and hard to get around. Although there is a great sushi bar there is no in-room menu to order ahead. The pool area was nice and quiet and the work out area has plenty to do, including yoga balls (which you don't see very often in hotels).
The rooms are VERY small, with the smallest bathrooms I've seen in years (I'm a travel agent, so I've seen thousands!) Excellent in-room TV options and a very comfortable bed. The service was so-so. It excelled with room service, which was quick, hot and exactly what we requested, including all of the extras. But check-in was slow, parking was impossible (the hotel was full, so we were sent down the street and around the corner...no small task in Boston) and the room was missing items when we checked in.
Overall a good property to stay at for a quick trip to the city, a good base to sightsee from. However, if you like to work in your room or are looking for a nice respit from the hustle and bustle, I would still try the Westin first.

Fabulous Location, But in Need of Upgrades...Solid Three Star

My husband and I stayed here Feb. 11-13th. We were very happy with the location as it is smack in the middle of many great shops and restaurants. You can walk indoors to two connected malls, which was an enormous plus.

The hotel is fairly large and could easily cater to "convention" groups, thus it certainly does not have any feelings of intimacy and you are clearly just "another number". The rooms are relatively small, but do have a desk and chair and a separate sofa chair. The bathrooms are incredibly small and our tub was peeling on the bottom and sides. The linens were so-so. Room service was fine (but nothing to write home about) and arrived promptly.

The noise outside of the rooms was very disturbing and we could hear through the walls with ease. Our room, near the elevator and service hallway had staff chatting, laughing and compaining to one another at all hours of the day, thus trying to get any sleep after 7am proved difficult both days.

The gym on the 5th floor is fair. Somehow, they have sold memberships to outside guests. The gym is small for a hotel of this size (particularly in light of the outside memerships) and equipment is crammed in...there was lots of competition for certain pieces of equipment as well. There is also a pool and hot tub. We did not use them, but it seemed as though others were enjoying themselves.

Overall, I would stay here again ONLY for the location. The hotel deserves three stars, no more, no less.

This Hotel was the first time best for my children and I. Went to visit my daughter in school for the holidays. This hotel could not be more accomodating. Service is 5 star!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pleasant Surprise

We stayed here during the first games of the World Series and the hotel was booked. Luckily we reserved our AAA rate before the playoffs as our $214.00 rate was raised to $350.00 for walk ins. I asked for a corner room high up and was given a wheelchair accessable room. What a difference! The room was huge, the bath enormous and although no tub, the shower, it was the best. Is it unethical to book a wheelchair room if one does not require one? We had a grand view of the Longfellow Bridge on the Charles. We ordered room service for breakfast and dinner and the food was excellent, really very good and promptly served. Some very noisy children were in the room next door, I mentioned it at the desk the next morning and they were moved that day way down the corridor. The location is great. Back Bay Station is across the street from the Mall of which the hotel is anchored. The green line is two blocks away in front of the library. Boylston and Newbury streets also two blocks from the entrance. One always receives great service at any Marriott, not to mention great value for your buck. We'll be back.

Convenient but ...

I stayed at the Boston Marriot Copley Place in October for a conference. I loved that it was convenient, adjacent to the best shops/restaurants in the city and very accessible. However, the service leaves much to be desired. When I was checking in, it appeared that they had already checked in another person (whose surname was similar to mine, but who was obviously an entirely different person based on her address and other details) using my reservation and Marriott Rewards number. The mix-up was sorted out in a few minutes, but it was such a bother to have to explain that I had a reservation (made 2 months before) and that the mistake was theirs, not mine.

As beautiful as the hotel was the service was even better. The Hotel's Location was right in the middle of everything. There even was a Shaw's accross the street. It has tons of shopping right at your fingertips. It's even was connected to the PRU by a indoor walkway, It has 3 Restraunts and Gourmelli's was the best for the Breakfest Buffet!!!
I would Highly Recommend this to anybody!!!!

nice hotel...expensive garage!

We stayed at the hotel last week for 2 nights, and for 4 people (2 adults, 2 kids) the room was a bit small, and the bathroom was tiny. We did get a nice quiet room up on the 25th floor, which was nice. But be warned - parking is $37 a day! And 4 pm ends the day, so if you stay later than that, you get charged more.
Location is near the T, Fenway Park (20 minutes), the Art Museum (20 minutes), Faneuil Hall (short T ride) - and of course the Prudential Center mall is great. Amazingly, they do not show Red Sox games on the tvs in the rooms - you have to go down to the Hotel's Bar (Champions) to see the game.
Very nice pool, and the breakfast buffet at $15 per person seemed a good value.

Wonderful position

Have just returned from a stay in Boston and the location of this hotel is so good that I wanted to share it with others. It is linked to the two main shopping malls in the city by walkways, there is a Starbucks in the lobby, and it is a short walk to the Newbury Street shops and Back Bay area. The Duck Tours and trolleybuses stop right outside and there is a huge supermarket across the street. The hotel is absolutely ideal if you want to stay right in the centre of things but still have a quiet refuge in the heart of the city. The bathrooms are small but that's the only possible complaint I could have. I would not hesitate to recommend it you cannot go wrong here.

Excellent and gracious service. The concierge lounge wasn't available when I checked in but the staff gave me vouchers for free breakfast in the restaurant for two days. A perfect location for business and pleasure.

Top Local Tips for Boston

don't rent a car unless you want to leave Boston It's quite expensive to pay for the garage every day- and no where else to leave it. And we needed to leave it as it was even more expensive to take it into town. Public transportation and taxis are a lot less hassle!!

Atlantic Fish Restaurant We scoped out a few places by stopping in at bars the night before our anniversary to see where we would like to have our special 20th anniversary dinner. Our favorite was the Atlantic Fish. The bar, bartender (I believe her name was Jen), and watching the staff at work; the atmosphere and most important the menu and we decided to make our reservation for the next night before we left. We surely picked the right restaurant for dinner! Our waitress, Sara, was right on with her recommendations. From our drinks, appetizer (order the crab cakes), dinner, to the awesome Atlantic Fish signature triple chocolate cake (we shared) made a memorable night for us. Looking forward to another visit, hopefully soon!

Taxis and Cars Taxis are a great way to get around quickly but for people not use to big cities you may find them expensive. LEAVE your car at the hotel unless you want to pay $30+ everywhere you park your car. If you are looking for a cheap way to get around get subway pass. It's not the cleanest form of travel (not overly dirty) but its quick, efficient and prompt and can take you virtually anywhere.
