Historical Traveller Reviews of Boston Marriott Cambridge Hotel

overall good stay

from Glinny
This hotel was the site of a conference I recently attended. The rooms were most comfortable, roomy and exceptionally clean. The bedding was like a cloud. The flat panel LCD television was very nice bonus. I especially liked the corner floor-to-ceiling windows with a view of the Charles and the city skyline. This New Yorker was put off by the neighborhood which was strangely devoid of conveniences like pharmacy, markets, shopping, galleries, deli and/or restaurants (that were not Legal Seafoods or Au Bon Pan) and the concierge tended to give directions in a surly tone when asked for walking directions. But the proximity to the Kendall-MIT T-stop made up for the lack of "neighborhood" amenities. For a mere $1.25 fare you could find what you needed somewhere along the red line. Beware of costly add-ons to the room charge like internet and "valet" parking and be sure to actually get the rate that you were quoted when you book your reservation. Otherwise, I highly recommned this hotel.

LOVED IT!!!!!!!!

from 3footprints
Had a hard time finding the place, but that was mapquest giving terrible directions. When we called the hotel, the directions they give us were OK, but one girl was unfamiliar with the area.. then there was a road blocked off due to fire/police activity. Once we got there that stress was quickly forgotten. It was great. The staff as a whole were polite.
Amanda was extremely helpful to obtain the connecting rooms we needed. The beds were very very comfortable. Nice amount of space. TVs were modern. Jean at the pool was helpful and polite! The place was clean. I even went into the pool!
The T is directly across the street.
I will always stay here when going into the Boston area.

Excellent Hotel

from slickoperator
This is a great hotel either for Boston or for Cambridge. It's on the red line, so you have a direct route straight into downtown Boston that takes only minutes, and in the other direction you have a very quick journey into Cambridge.

My room was a bit noisy because it had a connecting door to the next door room. I asked to be moved. It's typical of this hotel that they moved me immediately. Joanie on reception was responsible for this quick and efficient service and she deserves thanks here.

The servicing of the room was quick, discreet, and efficient, and the rooms are very pleasant.

One or two tips: there's a branch of Legal Seafoods next door. It's top of the Zagat guide. Well worth trying. I liked it so much I went there three times.

About ten minutes' walk away you can find the Kendall Square Landmark cinema. It shows a mixture of films, but if you like arty films that is a real find. You need to ask for directions before you leave the hotel; it's a little tricky to find first time, because you have to pass through Kendal Square and then walk past the car park. But it's well worth the trouble.

I stayed at the Marriott immediately after staying at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Boston, so had an interesting comparison. The day I arrived at the Hyatt because of a mess-up they made I could not be checked in until 6pm. By comparison I arrived at the Marriott at 6am and they checked me in without demur. The Hyatt Regency basically has just two eateries, one in the bar and one restaurant, neither of which are very inviting. The Marriott has two plus a Starbucks, plus an entire foodcourt which is open most of the day. Really much much better. The Hyatt is not far from the Downtown Crossing subway station, but you still have to leave the building and walk for a few minutes. You can walk just twenty feet under cover to the Kendal subway from the front door of the Marriott. Moreover, the Marriott is cheaper than the Hyatt. The service throughout the Marriott is more polite and courteous than that at the Hyatt, too. If I ever had the choice between the Marriott or the Hyatt I'd take the Marriott any day of the week.

I've stayed at the Marriott before, in 2003, and my stay in 2006 was even better. When and if I next visit Boston I'll stay there again.

This property was recently renovated and the room is great. The bedding is super, and TV is a flat-panel type. Typical business hotel price-add's: Internet, Parking, Evian water, Telephone connection, etc.

Note that dining/bar options within immediate walking vicinity are limited. However, many more are available with a short train or taxi ride.

stay there for the convenience

from A TripAdvisor Member
This is our second visit to the Marriott and we stay there mainly for its convenience to the Kendall Square T Stop. Beside the location, the best part about the hotel is the beds -very comfortable. Some minor problems - the outlet for the hairdryer didn't work and the picture on the TV was distorted, thus making movie viewing unpleasant. If we were staying longer, this might lessen my review of an otherwise nice hotel. I think the hotel is somewhat overpriced, so shop around, especially if you don't mind walking to train lines.

Excellent service, Great Location

from greggl
My son and I recently stayed at the Cambridge Marriot for the Boston Wine Expo weekend. We were very pleased with this hotel. The "T" subway system in Boston was very easy to use, and was right outside the front door. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The concierge called me at home before we left to double check on our requests made online. There was a terrific complimentary fruit and cheese basket in our room upon arrival.

Ask for a high floor facing the Charles river. The view was spectacular, overlooking the river and the Boston skyline. The weekend we were there, the Cambridge area around the hotel was like a ghost town....We walked about 8-10 blocks to the new Cambridge mall and saw nobody on the streets.

The rooms are on the small side, particularly the bathrooms, but we were out and about most of the time. Our rate was $108, which is not bad for a city hotel. Parking (valet) was $25.00/day. I would stay here again.

Convenient Comfort

from A TripAdvisor Member
My wife and I had a great stay at the Cambridge Marriott. Our trip was a weekend getaway and our first trip ever to Boston.

The rooms are currently undergoing a remodel. Ask for a remodeled room if possible. Our room was completely updated in stylish comfort. Many of the rooms have very nice views of the Charles river with the beautiful lights of Boston providing a reflective backdrop. Our king size bed was very comfortable.

The hotel's concierge sent us an email before our trip asking if we had any special requests. The staff was very responsive to the few requests that we did make which made us feel right at home.

As travellers without a vehicle, the best thing about this hotel was that is right across from a subway stop. It was extremely convenient to travel to dozens of destinations in Boston including Logan
Airport.

Also, we found a great brunch on Sunday a few blocks away at a restaurant called "The Blue Room." You may want to call ahead for reservations as it seemed to be quite popular. I highly recommend it.

Great Location

from welshjonah
What a great place to stay in a great location, near to the MIT and Havard. Loved the room and the size on the bed awesome. Close to the underground as well. Recommend it and will happily stay there again.

OK but not great

from tdale
I stayed here for 3 nights and it was certainly convenient for the conference at MIT that I was attending. Check-in was friendly and efficient. Room was OK, with a nice view over the river, but furniture and fittings seemed not to have been changed since around 1990. High speed Internet access @ $US9.95 per day was good. Quality of food and service at breakfast could be improved. One of the elevators was out of service (for the 3 days) so getting to and from your room could be slow.

convenience in downtown cambridge

from fluffymichou
i stayed at the marriott cambridge while attending a conference at MIT. It is within walking distance to MIT and the MIT coop. other than MIT though, the area is a little industrial, in the middle of downtown cambridge, so nice restaurants and sites are limited. however, the T is just a few steps away and public transportation is very easy to use and convenient to get a nice night out in boston or in harvard square, which has a more festive environment. the marriott hotel rooms are clean, though showing age, but will not detract any from a visit. lobby areas are well decorated and service is very helpful.

Top Local Tips for Boston

Kendall Square is red line on T Plan accordingly. Fun just to walk across lively-with-outdoor-enthusiasts bridge or stroll the lovely MIT campus, if weather nice. Seeing crew members out practicing on the Charles was a classic.

check out Basta Pasta ...off Central Square for high quality Italian pasta dishes at college student prices. Bit of a walk from the metro though.

Red-Line T Station is directly across the street. Very easy to get around.
